Okay, well ive read quite a few articles on Russia and from My small understanding, the Russian Federation is going back slowly to a Dictator like state. From taking away power from elected officals and handing more to Vladimir Putin,
also from my small understanding in the Russian Federation there is a round the clock draft. And the President has been in power for over 10 years i belive, now i'm not saying this is my opinion im saying this is what ive researched and heard from, magaizes like Time, and the New York Times, To add Russia has an alliance with Iran.
So I want to know what do you think of Russias political State at this time and Russia all together do you think they ar moving towards " freedom" or moving back?
* I am not meaning to insult anyone from russia by posting this thread. Also sorry if this is a duplicate thread.

I've learned about some of the stuff that's going on in Russia from my class. Many High Schoolers are depending on their ability to get into a college to avoid the draft in Russia.
Many think that Vladimir Putin won't leave office when it's his time to because of how he's tried to get so much power. Russia's had to deal with a lot of tyrannical leaders in the past though, I'm not sure if Vladimir Putin is one though. I hope that Russia does well and that the government doesn't become oppresive again.
Vladimir Putin has held the office of President since December 31, 1999 (in an acting capacity until March 26, 2000) following Boris Yeltsin's resignation. Before that, Putin had been Prime Minister from August 8, 1999. That doesn't quite add up to "over 10 years".
To be honest, I don't really care if Russia reverts to a more dictatorial government or not; if they want to, let them. Dictatorship, in and of itself, isn't any more or less moral than any other form of government, and Putin's government has managed to stabilize the Russian economy and restore Russian power and prestige on the world stage after it's decline following the collapse of the Soviet Union.
From Russia's perspective, I can't see how that's a step back.
Thank you for correcting me Lord Stphon i wasn't sure of that i though i was wrong in the first place about that one point, so thank you for your opinion.
LordStyphon, the problem with dictorial governments usually is that the people who live in the country have less power over how they're treated and they tend to bring about corrupt governments since the leader is extremely powerful. This may be a "step back" from Russians being able to have power over themselves.
Sometimes the majority can cause bad things, but they're more likely to do what's in everyone's best interest than that of a single leader.
I don't know much about this though. All my knowledge on the Russian government and Vladimir Putin come from three or four articles I've read in my Social Studies class while studying Russia and the Soviet Union. =P
I agree with Alex there you know also ther ecnomey might be well but a large amount of the people are very poor. so i don't see how a dictatorship woould help.
Well for all i know, Russia's economy has been brought up to a good level, only because the oil price has increased so much (as well as natural gaz). I don't know if Putin has anything to do with that, it's just that he's leading one of the wealthiest country (speaking of natural products here).
The problem is that because of this welfare, many governments don't dare to say anything about some real problems that we should care about, like the problems in Tchetchenia or North Ossetia. Russia is clearly doing wrong there, establishing a puppet as head of government, and killing the local (something like ethnical purification). I don't know how to solve the problems there, but i don't think they're doing it right !
Also, Russia uses its power to pressure borderlands economics, such as Ukraine, as we saw when they cut down the gazline, throwing a part of Ukraine into a freezing state. Okay it's somehow 'normal' to use your power to make ppl move the way you want them to if it's a good way, but doing it for a wrong cause (though to get a definition of a wrong cause is hard) is .... wrong ^_^
Finally, i think that even though the big corporations have been passed over under the law of market, it seems that the government still has the power to decide who is in charge or not (like they put one of the boss in jail because he wasn't obedient enough or something).
Well i don't know if it's a regression, maybe it's just that now it's more visible, given that Russia is back into the big shots, it doesn't care about appearance anymore.
Hope i didn't harm anyone's feeling, i'm just saying that the way the country is run seems to suck, but you can say it's none of my business !

Yep, I think the Russian State is taking a step back to a more "Dictatorial Mode". Of course I wouldn't be surprised if the Russian Mafia has more of a say in the realm of business/ $$$$$$. This was their break when the "Communists" fell from favor when Mikhail Gorbachav came to power, then Boris Yelstin, then finally Vladimir Putin.
Funny, Putin was once connected w/ the KGB (Secret Police--brain child of Berea of the 1930's)
Personally, I thought the state of Russia (USSR) would more now be democratic. Boy was I wrong !
Boy, talk about not being able to "Let go and enjoy life !"
The Russian state desires to go back to the old days when "It was the De Facto superpower on the other side" With a large supply of oil and natural gas, mostly locked up in Siberia. Yeah, they can throw their weight against the West including the former "Soviet states--Ukraine and the Baltic states".
I look for a very serious confrontation w/ the USA in the near future and no I don't mean a "pie fight" like the "Three Stooges" in their movies of old !
i dont kno much on the subject but if you ask me...Drafting? id say they're losing their feedom and sum1 needs to do somthing about this power hunger Putin dude!
The problem is that the Russian people lived for too long under a repressive regime, and the changes that made them a democracy were gradual, not sudden upheaval. There was no real rebellion, no revolution, and no putting on pikes the heads of those who had oppressed them. The fact that a former member of the KGB is RUNNING the place is a clear indicator of the last.
So...sadly, until the Russian people engage in a natural uprising and cast off their dictatorial regime, we won't see any positive steps there.
I like russian people. It is maybe that's why, i think everything need an oposite,my opinion is so Putin make such a politic so the other countries can compare Russia with another big country like USA.For us not from Russia is it a step back but for them in they meaning it is a step forward.
It must be because you never really hear about them. Its a shame really, Russia could be a great country. If we would stop messing around and create a super United Nations that was comprised of them and the other greats we could seriously do nething. And Russia falling behind wouldnt even be an issue.
it is only a matter of time, till there is another revolt in Russia.
Right now, all I can say is Russia is making its History. The Russian people is trying to find the way to a better life. They're poor, cold and hungry; the Government is corrupt and the Mafia almost controls Russia. China teaches us 'freedom' isn't the only way to go. Who are we to tell what's better for the Russian people? We have a lot of serious problems to solve in our country (Brazil); for example, Education, our worst problem. Let's wait some reasonable History time (25 to 50 years), and we will know if Russian people took the right decisions. I believe in that people.
Haven't been watching the news much, lately, have you. In China, the government is currently in the business of seizing homes, evicting families, and then turning the land they've taken into businesses or such.
Of course, you don't hear too much about it, because in China, the government controls the media, too.
