I went to the movie theaters and while I was watching the sneak peeks, there was
one for a new movie called The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, this movie is
totally different from the other Fast and the Furious movies as this movie takes
place in Tokyo and introduces the style of racing known as drifting where the
cars are very light and the tires are slick, the race tracks are full of sharp
turns and the drivers have to powerslide through those turns, I think it's gonna
be an awesome movie, the Japanese Yakuza will also be involved in the movie,
what do you guys think about the movie?
I personally thought all the movies sucked. With this new one ugh simply crap in
my opinion and it's not even out yet.
The first one was alright like DanTheGreat said it had a somewhat decent plot.
The other was all show. Only thing good from the second was the cars that's it.
I was working two jobs when the first movie came out. Oil and tires guy for a
small repair shop during the day and projectionist for a multiplex at night.
Before the movie, we'd see maybe 3-5 foreign cars per month with a set of rims
or other aftermarket stuff. AFTER the movie came out, we started seeing more and
more Civics and Corollas come in with improperly cut springs, hacked-in intake
and exhaust mods, and horribly bolted on rear wings. Most of the complaints from
the customers were, "I saw the movie, modified my car, and now it doesn't
run/handle right. Can you guys fix it?" Some of the cars with modified
suspension were actually dangerous to drive to the point where the boss had to
post a notice stating that we no longer worked on "riced out" cars.
The liability for him was too great.
What drew me to Initial D was their message of how Takumi gained his skills by
constantly practicing, every day, in all weather. His dad taught him proper car
control and how to shift the weight using the cup of water trick. They show that
sometimes, a little bit of quick thinking is what makes the real difference. I
also liked the part in season 2 where he blows up the engine. Just a little bit
of reality there.
What I got from the Fast & Furious movies is that you don't need skill as
long as you have nitrous and god-awful graphics on the side of your car. What
really got me, however, was how they spent all that time and money on carbon
fiber this and that to reduce the weight of the car only to add a couple of
hundred pounds of stereo equipment right back in. Who builds a race car with a
stereo?
I agree. Never saw the first or the second. I not planning to see this one
either. All the part don't even contect and it has different character on each
chapter. I admit they do have nice car and the driving skill is not bad. I got
to say I sticking with Initial D.
I didn't like the movies much. After the movies came out i started getting
pulled over just cause my car was an import and slightly modified. And i've been
driving that car for 4 years before the first movie even came out with the same
modifications and never had a single stop by the cops. Plus the story line just
sucked. Using import cars to hijack trucks and i can't remember what the second
story line was. I think anybody could have wrote a better script than those.
As much as the story might suck or how the characters will act, I'll probably
watch it.
I wanna see if they will utterly destroy the Japanese image by Americanizing it
or actually dwell on and appreciate it.
Not to mention if the driving is authentic in this movie, drifting looks great
and takes talent no matter who you are or what you're driving.
And this movie better not be loaded with gangster rap bs... I better hear some
jpop, dance, trance, and all that goodness!
I just saw a commercial for this today! I think it's awesome that it's actually
about RACING and the lives and culture of extreme car racing. It's kinda silly
though because you know in car racing somehow the Asian guys always suck and
they're mean and the American guy wins, since it's an American movie. I hope
it's not so cliche like that.

I'm willing to bet money that's EXACTLY
what will happen. Look at the cast list on IMDB... The first 10 or so are ALL
non-Asian and only one Asian actor gets a
name.... Plus look at the what the main
characters look like...
Don't believe everything see in a trailer. They take out all the most
action-packed and CGed parts of the movie and stick-em together. Wack in some
fast paced music and lots of flashing text and BAM! You'll go "WOW! that
looks like a sweet movie". It's called marketing.
You want to watch a good car film this summer? Watch Pixars "Cars"!
That'll be way more fun and enjoyable.
Lol. Looks like its the battle btw Asian and Western street racing. I prefer the
first movie. The Second had rather a weak story and directing. HRm..may watch
this third installment though. Jeez, i just look at the cars most of the time.
=D IMHO, good movie adaptations are rare.
C'mon, it's just a movie. But i stick to Initial D though. =P
I'm actually gonna see this movie today because my state newspaper gave this
movie 3/4 stars, and my newspaper is a very harsh critic to these kinds of
movies. The review stated that it not only provided the great racing action of
the other 2 movies, but actually managed to "Use the Tokyo locations to
create a sense of place and culture that has an interest of its
own."
So if you want to see a taste of some modern Japanese culture and sweet racing,
then this is the movie for you!
Me too Fast and the Furious sucks and it ruins the car tuning scene for
everyone
I'm with you guys too.... Initial D is great! However, my curious side wants to
see how this is going to turn out. Saw some clips last night; the dude trying to
please the Yakuza but challenging them to a race.....
The only reason i see that the movie is worth checking out: girls, the sick mods
to the JDM cars, and Tsuchiya in another movie.
I personally will hate this movie like the previous 2. Mainly for the fact, that
it will start flooding the market more-so with wannabe kids, posers, and attract
'50' to any import with an inch drop+, exhaust, HID conv kits, etc. It's a pain
enough that in places cops will pull u over n do a full search to find cust.
turbos, engine swaps, db checks, say absurd things that don't make sense like
"ur HIDs are gonna blind ppl" when u kno damn well that with the right
housing, that would not happen. Then they'll issue the referee tickets.
Comments from my friends have been "yea, since there is a movie about
drifting, then that tells the cops that a bunch of kids will be drifting"
"if that was true, then when a movie about terrorism and war comes out,
there's bound to be more terrorism n war, let's watch the Al Gore movie n learn
about global warming"
-Drifting requires practice, technique, talent, timing, money, money, money,
knowledge of the actual slider, knowing how and where to take the line, etc.
*not just anyone can do it*
The last 2 movies gave rise to such things already, but the intensity of
searches will increase. The thing ppl will have to realize is, is that you can't
drift on surface streets, not with traffic always a factor, and depending on
where you live, there are not many valleys/mts/hills that produce an environment
like the togue. '50' kept an eye out for drag racing more so because of the last
2 movies, which in my mind is a good thing, but not when they become about mods
done to customize a person's own personal vehilce. Any sanctioned event is fine,
but for the ppl who attend the sanctioned event, then leave only to be followed
by '50' for 6 miles, then that's just a pain. *happened at '05 D1*
Car buyers who wish to purchase any RWD like S13-S15 [240SX domestic], AE86 [86
corolla], or any other reasonably affordable RWD will then have to pay a hefty
lil increase when KBB decides to jack the value higher. It has already happened
to those cars, even my MR2 stayed at a higher value for a 14 yr-old
car.
Those who can afford any of the GT-R, Supras, FD, good for you, be careful of BS
fines, and share the wealth.
To those who mentioned Initial D, that was an actual good factor that led to the
popularity of the drift scene, but the D1 events and Falken events contributed a
good amount as well. Remember, not everything revolves animation completely
*mainly for this situation*
nightfire mentioned yakuza, seriously, if ur gonna mess with any kinda mafia or
gang, and u are in their territory u are already marked. bodybags be ready, cuz
in real life you can't mess with yakuza and get away. easy way to learn, meet
some yakuza memebers, they'll tell u some interesting stories. *also no one has
ever heard of drifting yakuza, u actually take a look into the drift scene in Jp
most of the racers are white collar guys, motor sport entrepeneaurs, and
personality wise they're pretty much dorks as well *check out for Chiba-kun,
Ra-Man, and Smoke Nagata"
I kno ppl will say "well it's just a movie" yea... it is a movie, but
there's a difference between a movie that is fictious but with a definite sense
of realizm and a movie that is fictious and completely off the wall. Rounders
Vs. Finding Nemo *yes talking fish!* It's interesting to portray the cars able
to bend the laws of physics a lil enough to gain a certain outcome, like in the
2nd movie where the R34 soars across the bridge, R34s are notorious for being
front heavy, you can look at the car itself and realize that, in reality it
would take a dive n flip, same thing for that Supra, at least realistically the
shocks bottomed out and jacked up the suspension and brake system. For this
movie, I can only imagine that all these cars drifting will drift with only 1
set of tires *reality check: drifting wastes the tires down to the threads [yes
your tires have threads] any 350+hp RWD car will burn the tires down in less
then 5 minutes*
The JDM market is having it's effect on the domestic market greatly, if no one
has heard, NASCAR has actually accepted 3 Toyota Camry V8s to participate in
upcoming races. Inflation of gas prices have caused a shift in ppl getting small
Jp domestic cars *Scion xA, xB, Civics, Corollas, etc.*
This will portray a poor respentation of the Jp import culture, at most
underground organized events there really aren't any ditsy dressed up whorish
girls, or yakuza, or anything else like what was shown in the trailers. There
are Wangan runs otherwise known as Cannonball runs, drifting thru the togues,
but nothing like that which will be shown in the movie. Even Tokyo Auto Salon is
much a business event, just like E3 over here in the US. *you won't find any
Go-Go dancers at Tokyo Auto Salon, just a gang load of race queens* US and JDM
import culture has it's definite differences, typically JDM is considered more
reserved.

sounds good i'd check it out
I'll stick to Initial D.

the only good Fast and the Furious movie was the first one, the second one's plot sucked they focused too much on eye candy.
I personally thought all the movies sucked. With this new one ugh simply crap in my opinion and it's not even out yet.

I am thinking of watching it for the cute japanese girls that are always in the commercials..
That movie is boring espically the first one, second one and another one that's coming up.

Check out the list of filming locations on IMDB.
I wanna watch it for the cars. Probably sucked like the rest of them.
From what my bro does whenever he sees the preview, i'm guessing it's pretty good. i watched a bit of the preview..might watch, it looks alright.
I just saw a commercial for this today! I think it's awesome that it's actually about RACING and the lives and culture of extreme car racing. another garbage movie....with extremely crappy acting and women dressed like whores....
yeah go see "Cars"! It'll be cool
I loved the first one but the 2nd one was ok but now the new one looks so coooooooooooooooooool.
Lol. Looks like its the battle btw Asian and Western street racing. I prefer the first movie. The Second had rather a weak story and directing. HRm..may watch this third installment though. Jeez, i just look at the cars most of the time. =D IMHO, good movie adaptations are rare.

Same here. Initial D > Fast and Furious.
I never liked any of the Fast and the Furious stuff... even if this one is about drifting... It's not going to convince me that it's going to be good.
