This is a wallpaper which is about to be deleted and after a while decided to
post it in here, took me about 4-5 hours to make, choose colors and all in
between. It was my first try at making wallpapers, tho i still cant really make
things that are exceptionally hard.
Enought talk here it is:
btw dont kno if its ok to post full pic or thumb so i posted thumb hopefully
thats cool
I guess I can just point out a things you might need to change or improve on...
just the basics of the Policy... I'll try to provide solutions when I can :
- Extraction- the pic on the top right his hair is blurry. It's kinda obvious,
and the best thing to do is just get an extraction tutorial (do try to find one
using the pentool because magnetic lasoo goes bonkers up and down the
page)
Extraction overall seems to be hidden by the white stroke...
Aside from that, another problem I see is how the scans are still in squares...
I'd probably avoid doing that in the future but since this is a first attempt
we'll just ignore that for the time being.
- scan choice: in the future, try to pick scans that have got both vertical
sides with white. In other words, pick scans that aren't cut off. If you learn
the pentool (which I strongly encourage you do!) you can "draw" what's
missing, but if not, it looks really awkward.
Or at least pick a scan with one side cut off- and obviously, the side that's
cut off is placed right agains the edge of the wallpaper
Background's not bad and the composition is overall pretty good.
But I must say the biggest set back is the extraction and cut off jackets of the
two characters in the center. I'm not sure about the other scans floating around
(they contribute to this wallpaper, yet don't really contribute to the idea of
the two guys kicking each other) so I'll leave that up to you.
Last thing: don't try borders on the whole wallpaper They
are hard to work with... only do them a bit later because they are quite
tricky.
As for pen tutorials you can find one at IManimetions (there's a link to the
site at the bottom of the left menu under Affiliates) or I've done my own set of
jpeg pentool tutorials. You'll have to access them from Theunderappreciated
group though. [if you can see my siggie, it's there]
Personally, I disagree with Misa's assesment that the suares are part of the
scan. I think it's a really nice design choice and I like it. But the focal
image IS a bad choice. and the focal image extraction is bad. I personally don't
think the blurring on the secondary images is bad. They're accenting and meant
to be secondary to the focal image, but it may be nicer not to have so much
blurring.
But definitely need better extraction on the focal image, and it would be better
if it were a complete image. Frankly, I think the concept and style is awesome
and if you found a better focal image and extracted it well, then I could see it
being accepted.
Integra does seem a bit out of place as a character in the wall when it's a
battle between Alucard and Anderson You can go two ways, make it into an Alucard
and Integra wallpaper or take out Integra and find an nice picture of similar
style for Anderson and find a focal image to match either of those themes. So in
the end you'd have to find 2 new pictures either way to make this wall work, but
it has awesome style.

Hehe well I'll have to disagree with you on this, because having scans still in
their squares without extraction or even poor extraction can lead to deletion
because of low effort.
Usually wallpapers, no matter how nice looking they are, are still deleted for
low effort when scans are kept in squares... why? Because you simply got an
image, cropped it and then slapped it on. It's in the policy: images that have
gone basic cropping and resizing aren't really deemed good quality.
They do provide a nice design sort of thing, but if they are to be kept there
under two conditions:
- Find better scans in squares, because they are totally random to the focal
image and don't share the same idea or change the focal image to the same
characters in the squares
- Keep the squares with sharp edges and increase the technical flow of the
wallpaper.
No Misa, you misinterpret me. I'm saying it doesn't look like the characters
squares behind the character images in the background are part of the original
image the characters came from. They seem to be original accents made for the
wall. Another reasoning for this is that the lines arounf the entirety of the
outline of the characters are blurred but the bagrounds are crisp and use the
same brushes as the entirety of the background.
I'm surprised you didn't notice that yourself. Though the blurring and
transparency around the images is not a preference by all means, they are not
the focal images and I don't see it as a problem in secondary character images
in a wallpaper.
umm ya guys, i have no clue wat yall talkin about...to terra-chan ya i kinda
knew i screwed up on the alucard and integra because i did the wallpaper before
actually seeing or having background knowledge of the anime..after doing it i
watched the whole series and decided to just leave as is.
if u guys/gals are talkin about the bottom image in black i decided to put it in
like tha and tho it looks like it got cut off that is the whole render the end
is just the tip of the char jacket...umm if yall can clarify a couple of other
things yall posted i would be glad to clarify/explain why its like tha
The argument is that Misa believes that the background images are just blocks of
scans/source images - she implies that there is no work put into the design of
the blocks behind these images for the wall.
I say thath the characters are completely extracted (with the blurred edge flaw
admittedly) with the background blocks made completely originalt for the
wallpaper as a design element to tie things together.
lol Ya the blocks were completly made for the wallpaper only thing I didnt make
was the renders themself i.e. character images the main character image (the big
one wit Alucard and Anderson) was rendered by someone who belongs in a forum
that I am most active on. I also did post it in the forum and gave credit to
that person in everywhere I posted this wallpaper on, like DeviantArt and the
forum I belong to MyriaFX. The forum
specialized in graphics, mostly signatures but also has 3D and other things to
help improve peoples skills, all the other images like the one in the bottom
which is in all black and the 2 faces (Alucard and Integra) were cut out by me
using images I found on google's search engine. Though I admit it wasn't a very
good job, I also have to say in my defence that those were my first try
rendering images and since it came out choppy I made it blured. But everything
was made specifically that way, because I thought just that having only the
focal image (I guess sthat what u guys call the main image) would be boring and
I didn't have many ideas for it...you can also tell that i didt just take
picture and place them there because of the brushwork behind all the images. I
belived if i used the same brushes it wouldn't look right and wouldn't draw
attention so behind every image there was a different set of brushes that where
used and also that every box behind the image is highlighted and only the focal
image and border is highlighted but the renders that I cut out were
not.....
The main reason I put those big faces behind the focal image is because while
making this, the idea of making a sort of look alike to how you see a character
face like zoom in when they going to do a special move as seen in games like
Marvel vs Capcom, so i tried to convey that into the wallpaper
