hey everyone, l was just reading some posted thread about Japan and i wanted to know in there was a way to become a manga artist right here in Australia, instead of flying all the way to Japan and working there? If anyone know's pls tell me :)

well generally to be considered a manga artist you gotta be in japan to do that :p

but you can do comics in the manga style for sure, just that they wont be classed as manga.

If you want to learn the style, go to book stores and such on how to draw manga/anime characters

if you live in sydney, at Kionkuinya (i can never get the spelling right xD) they have a heap of those books

actually here is the site - http://bookweb.kinokuniya.co.jp/indexohb.cgi?AREA=06
you can order the books from there :D

I wanna know as well. I mean, If I do make my own manga, how can I publish it in Australia?

You'd have to learn Japanese and go to Japan...and probably have to be a REALLY GOOD artist. Like....REALLY GOOD. And....would it even be considered manga if you aren't Japanese?....Mhmmm...

Hmm, I think there was a girl down south somewhere got her manga published recently. But she was the first Australian ever to get it done by an actual manga house.

You could always go down the Matthew Reilly route and self-publish. It costs a couple of grand but some of the University Presses will let you do short runs of a couple of thousand copies or so. The trick is raising the capital in the first place.

Thats sounds great that you're thinking of making a mange. But i think wat you should do first is:

1. think of a setting of your characters
2. what your manga is going to be about
3. what type of manga is it going to be
4. what names...........(actually, that can be last)

I hope that this helps you out, if you need any more help, you just ask me or anyone else. And I'm sure that me and others will be happy to help you. :)

Goodluck on your creation! Remeber! Great anime's comes from clear minds!

Well, I'm not exactly worried about the content. What I am having trouble is that I see nowhere that can actually publish them.

Well, after reading a few posts in here, I must say that not ALL manga is in Japanese, in fact there is translated manga... just by saying that manga should be in Japanese isn't quite 100% correct.

In response to the first post however, it's quite hard to get your works published as "manga" because there is not really a market for it here in Australia. Not as in people won't buy it, but more as in the publishers don't... because it's not really a culturally Australian thing. You could perhaps get your work published as a comic instead... (which is pretty much the equivalent of manga... only it sounds much much more American-ised) in your manga style.

If all else fails, you can just scan in your stuff, set up a site, and just spread the word lol... :)
