If you were tring to make your own anime what would you name the main character
of the story I´ve been thinking about cause I write my own any
suggestions?
Also Think of the charecter names in the time period in which your anime/manga
takes place. Obviously medieval Japan wouldnt have names like Bob, or
Jim....though i have seen some manga's that actually do that (personally i think
that should be against the rules :P hehe). Pesonality is also a big factor in
certain names, though if you look at charecters like Dewey Novak from Eureka 7
you wouldnt think maniacal mass-murderer just by looking at the name.
Also try and picture a history for your charecters if you havent done that
already (I hope that all ppl trying to make an anime/manga would come up with
pasts for their charecters. A person's past can always allow a constant flow of
names and passions for a char.
But yeah, my suggestions for coming up with names:
Time Period, Past, Personality,
Well my advice is stick to what you know. If your not Japanese and your manga
doesn't at least take place in Japan please oh pretty please do not give them a
Japanese name (like the fools who made IGPX). Remember that when you look at a
name in something foreign they're named that because it sounds cool to the
people who wrote it in their language. So if your American or English (and if
you're not lets pretend) then instead of nameing him/her KageRyu, for instance,
name them ShadowDragon that way everything will flow smoothly throughout the
Manga because you'll feel more comfortable around your characters and they won't
seem out of place in their enviroment. The bottom line is REGION, REGION,
REGION! Make sure you place your character in a region you understand with a
name that makes sense. Other than that I think Kytel pretty much summed up the
rest. Hope I helped
I agree completely with ShadowWraith on the part you should not name them after
a Japanese name if it doesn't take place in Japan. Unless the person is actually
Japanese your character, because otherwise it makes you look silly to
foreigners.
Anyway, names are really important, if you're character is mysterious for
example, think of uncommon names. I usually think of the character's
personality, always come up with the name once you figure out his/her persona
and a bit of the story setting. Either way the process can be a painful one from
my experience.
I'm agree with Kytel and ShadowWraith you must name a character taking
consideration of his/her Homeland and the time period you chosen. The character
personality is valid if he/she use a nickname.
But like ShadowWraith says you should pick a region that you understand.
I believe that Kytel has a very good point about past being very important. Look
at the role that past plays in Naruto. Almost every single is tied into one
another from any means of past visits or tradegies. These things WILL help with
the story's flow and direction that it follows. Names should also be centered
around area, as ShadowWraith points out. If you are making an anime also think
about, but you don't have to, music. Music plays a vital role in any kind of
situation from comedy to serious. If you look at any show on television, not
just anime, they all center around a solid story line and then have to right
music, all be it subtle or loud, depending on how things go. Location does play
a very large part in how the story will use it surroundings to make life either
complicated(Now & Then, Here & There), or very useful(Rurouni Kenshin).
All calculations aside, I still wouldn't know where to begin on either
unfortunately.

in my third sentence I need to add 'character' in between single and is. My bad.

Name him/her/it something that matches well with the character's personality.
