Okay, my wallpaper was deleted by the mods and they kindly explained to me that it was because the moon and stars were too blurry for their standards. So I decided that I'd post it here instead. Just so you guys can see it and critique it for me (which is why I post my wallpapers anway ^^;; ).

Anyway, I'd LOVE to hear what you guys think positive or negative (though I hope both are constructive), what I could change, suggestions on how to unblurrify the moon and stars for future reference, ect.

Oh! Don't forget to click it again once the picture comes up to full size view it. It goes a little pixelly if you don't do that. And I forget to click it again a lot when I look at people's wallpapers that they've posted here or in the Image Dump or whatever it's called. Please don't forget! ^^;;

It's of a young angel learning how to make a star from her textbooks. It's called How To Make A Star. Hope you guys like it~<3

~Mika-chan

I've got a couple of suggestions.
1. Clear all the blurriness up to sharpen the image
2. Get rid of a few of the stars to create more depth with a space liike BG (but keep the denser stream like you have it now)
3. Make the characters image solid and not transparent or make sure the lights floating around her illuminate her from the front (gives depth)
4. IF the character is that high up I'd add in maybe a nebula like effect or a couple of small galaxy clusters to give more of a sense of being in the heavens

Oh! I used to have that scan that you used somewhere on my computer...its so cute! Like the mods said, the stars and the moon are blurry, but thats easily fixable! errmmm....it almost looks like you took a stock photo with really low quality for the background (or unless you made it...in that case, I would blame it on the brushes you used). Try making another background with a better stock photo (or better brushes). Like Mnemeth said, you should make teh character less transparent.

As for making the bg less blurry, you could always go to filter --> sharpen --> sharpen/sharpen more. But theres a chance that it will make your background look very low quality.

As for the moon...well you need to make it alot less transparent. Dont even lower the opacity for the moon. It would look better white, because the girl's star is white.

I think what would work out very nicely with your wallpaper is if you have the girl on a grassy plain. and the horizon and sky is a night sky with some stars (not so many as you have). you could always have nice shooting stars in the sky! Good luck and I hope you can get this into the gallery soon! Its a nice start ^-^

These are all good suggestions (what do you expect from Starr? :) ). Maybe make the cute girl up a little higher, on a hill or a rock or something? The moon needs to be whiter, and rather than a huge sky full of stars, do a mostly dark sky with star clusters. This will make the light she's holding look brighter. This is a good idea, I know you can make it work. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.

yes its actually a good wallpaper but the moderators were right on the bluriness and mayB the stars are too close too eachother make more black (thats what i think about it ) the scan of the girl is very coowl and nice thoughts with her learning too make a star ^^ Cya (PeaCe)

Im not sure if those glass-like objects floating around fit with the wallie. I would leave them out if I were you. With some sharpening and the changes to the background this could be a rocking wallie. Good Luck.

OKAY~

Thank you guys for all your awesome advice! I followed some of your thoughts, not so much on others, but I did manage to sharpen up the stars quite nicely. Had to start the background from scratch to do it but~

-shrug-

It's the price we pay. Anyway! I added more black and brightened up the front of the girl. The moon is now completely white and not transparant. I colored in her outfit where you could see the stars so she doesn't look transparant anymore (though she wasn't in the first place). Had to move the girl over for some reason or another... can't remember why right now though ^^;;

Um... took away the glass... I kinda agreed that they seemed almost out of place. I grouped more of the stars and such together so that they seemed more like galaxies than just scattered stars...

And there it is. What do you think now?

Much detailed now; that is a good thing.

Though I would suggest more light on the brighter spots to make it more noticable.

i suppose not to use monotone color in such wall.
it isnot bad to use purple as main color or some sparkles, but as for me:

- if you gonna make an abstract, then the contrast isnot enough...it looks like a simply bored wallpaper with brush, add in some color balance layers will be better.
- the scan is too small...and again..monotone, the wings will not be recognized if you let the wall like that, scan is the main thing of an anime wallpaper...then do something to highlight it ^_^, plus the position of it is really bad that you'd better move it up and a bit to the left
- the moon and the light, yeaa i dont really know what should i call this...but it's all white beside your black purple wall is just something to ruin it *__*, look at the thumb and you'll see, only to "white point" with a small scan and a mixed background, furthermore the shephrized(is that it? i forgot the word *_*) will be a great idea for moon though...

okay, this is just my opinion :) , it just look a bit of messy in my eye though :\

i think it looks good but the glass should go...it's just an opinion thou ^^ but i think it looks cutee

the second one looks good... and like the others had mention, i find that the colour of the wall is monotonous and felt it could be better if the character is of a colour different from the background it would be better if its in its original colour, and it would be better if the character is larger..

The original character is actually monotonous. It's actually what inspired the colors of everything else.

Here's the original scan:

So any suggestions on how to maybe CHANGE her color? Probably her skin color being the biggest thing in need of altaring.

In Photoshop you can use the color change tool. It leaves the brightness/contrast/shading in place and applies color over it. Do variations of purple in the bg, fading in and out of tones and depth, so it's still all purple if you like, but has more interest. It's such a cute scan and a really good idea.

wow the starfield looks really nice, and the vibrant colors.

After a while of not working on this wall... I tried to do it again! Here's the result!

Okay, I followed some of your suggestions. The girl is bigger and moved inward, the bright spots are brighter.

I really can't do all that much other than that. The color change thing won't seem to work for me and I tried to vector it, but it just turned out looking really, really weird.

The color balance layers honestly looked completely tacky when I tried that. Um... not sure what I can do about the moon being white... moons are generally white... plus there's more white in the picture now so maybe it doesn't look so terrible/out of place?

I hope you guys like it better now...

i would try to reduce the number of stars. seems to be overpopulated.

a good resource is to check out the works of greg martin.

*dang, I accidentally closed this window! stupid tab of IE7!*

well, back to what i wanted to say..

first i would like to congratulate you cuz you really improved on the wall. there's nothing to complain anymore about the quality because it's much more nicer.

the only problem that I would like to pinpoint is the unbalance of elements. you see, the scan is so small, the moon is so small, so there's a big "space" in space, get it? well, we can't make the scan bigger, cuz it's at it's biggest, so maybe the moon would help.

i'd also recommend to add clouds so that she's not sitting on nothing-ness. And to spice up the space background, you can add comets or other smaller planets. Stars aren't the only elements that could make up the sky. You can find those brushes at DeviantArt. For a bigger moon, please find them at SXC.hu. Hope this helps. ^^

I like it! It feels a little spacious though... I mean theres a lot of background, and only a little scan... Maybe there should be words?

Wow! It's beautiful! I can't believe they wouldn't accept that....compared to my wallpapers, that is magnificent!

I'll have to agree with Blueangel17.
Try to place a few extra things in the BG. That at least would place some extra things around for some effect.

And yeah... something she is sitting on would be a nice addition.
Clouds, something magical, planet, water... anything she could possibly be sitting on.. :D

But I really have to say I like your effort to make the wall better. Congratulations on that part :)

http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/4962/howtomakeastarversion6bz5.th.jpg

Okay, added some clouds for her to sit on since people have been asking for that from the beginning ^^;;

I think the clouds sorta help out the too much space deal and they're really pretty. I also added a shooting star, just for affect.

I hope it's better now! I'm gonna go ahead and submit this version and any changes I make I'll just update. ^^

*.*

isnt the moon still too white?
maybe with not so much brightness, its just looking to a big bright white ball
the clouds looks excellent! and the shooting stars are cool
is just.....the moon, it woulb be much better if the moon has those characteristical craters on it, not just the bright ball......
