Slow Speeds

Bug Reports

Minitokyo » Forum » Minitokyo Fora » Bug Reports  Slow Speeds

I've noticed the past day/day and a half that Minitokyo only sends at about (I'm not kidding) 1 kb/s (Atleast pictures, the main site loads somewhat fast). It is definatly not my computer/connection/any combination of these things. Has anyone else noticed this/reported this bug? (I'm not sure if it's a bug perse..just that the servers are immensely slow lately). If it's already been reported on, I apologize

The sysadmins will be looking into this issue more fully this weekend.

MT has been sluggish for the past week or so, not just the past few days. As Tama-Neko said, this problem is being reviewed. The best advice is to try to hold off on mass downloads until Monday if you can. Hopefully we will see an increase in speed by then.

Thank you for your replies, and for your hard work towards fixing the problem. I'm sure it won't be too much of a problem to fix, seeing as how the bandwith is seemingly fine (The main page loads quick enough, it's just the images that are slow, right?) Well anyway, keep up the good work ^^

I have also noticed tha the images have been loading incredibly slow for the past week or two. I am guessing it is not minitokyo but a problem with the locomotives somewhere in between when the signal leaves my house in america and and goes all the way to Japan (I think?).

Hilariousity

The uhm, website isn't located in Japan >_> it's located in Singapore http://support.minitokyo.net/about/

I've been experiencing the speed problem here in Australia even on a fast connection. I know that others have also experienced this problem from other various parts of the world. But it'll be fixed some time soon.

Singapore huh? Someone suggested to me that the servers were located in the US, and due to copyright concerns donations weren't allowed to be taken. I'm not sure where he got this theory, but I know of a few similar sites with that problem. I guess the fact they are in singapore makes him a dolt and me a fool for believing it for the half of a second that I did (Didn't know donations weren't allowed untill I read the about link just now, so for another half of a second I believed it lol) Well, anyway, the site has been going far too long to complain about a week or so of bandwith problems (Or whatever the problem might be), just wanted to make sure that the problem was known (Some sites really wouldn't have noticed the problem, sorry for underestimating you all XD)

From what I remember, Sheqel doesn't accept donations because the advertising raises enough money to pay for the server and hosting fees, so donations aren't needed. There was a time when they weren't, but that was quite some time ago, thankfully ;) (IIRC that was back when MT was v1!) Also, he didn't want to correlate donation money with an increase in credits, status, etc.

Advertising seems to be the most affective way to keep a site afloat, that is for sure. A certain other site (Starts with 4ch, ends in..well you know) can't take donations because they face the wrath of the FBI if they do (servers hosted in the USA, home of the copyright infringement lawsuit, not to mention they have "Adult" material which further complicates and illegalizes taking donations) so they resorted to selling advertising en masse, which has so far kept the site running. It's nice to know that should advertisers ever leave, there would be a donation alternative for paying the sites operating costs (Unlike that certain 4ch site which is dead in the water should the advertising stop.)

From the mod meeting: Gottaname has an AMD X2 3800+ dual-core CPU and a pretty high-end Gigabyte motherboard sitting on his desk. This should considerably improve speeds. We expect installation next week; when we have a more definite date we'll make an announcement.

How's that?

3 cheers for Gottaname!

it would not hurt for you to read a little more of the thread before actually dropping a comment...
and also i urge that you do not drop comments like this as it willl instigate others to drop more similar comments and before you know it this thread becomes a source of spam which has happened on previous threads...

Hip Hip Hooray! X-P

AMD X2 3800+ dual-core CPU and a pretty high-end Gigabyte motherboard ... gosh did he just assemble that himself X-P

hope that the problem will be fixed soon
some previous week...the download speed made me want to throw my comp away
how nice.... today even the browsing speed...*grin*.......suckie..... ~_~

besides moving to a faster server, you should also considering looking over the scripts that your site use and try to optimize them if you can (or use different scripts)

sound as though you have somekind of an idea there... why not pm it to Sheqel or gottaname ;)

Its not a faster server we're moving to. :)

Scripts have little to do with the download speed either. Besides that, I believe that there are many attempts already done to modify them aleady.

So I assume this was why I couldn't even log on for the past 4 days?

Sorry for the delay, sheqel will be annoucing the full report soon.

Thankfully back online ^_^

The pics are down to for some reason though it's nice your back online again.

I too have noticed the less then even dialup speed of loading images in recent weeks, I assumed it was some problem with the MT pipe and the admins were likely already aware of the situation so I just worked with whatever speed I could get. It is annoying to the users when the site is slow or down, but I'm sure it is many hundreds of times worse for the administrators trying to solve the problems and keep everything running smoothly. Since I run a couple small sites of my own, I know how annoying it is when one goes down and people complain about it, so I generally just wait patiently when some site I visit goes down rather then reporting a problem.

It is a situation initiated by the Administrators themselves.
This fact should be glaringly obvious, and hence no reporting is necessary.

Slow? My MT hadn't loaded at all for 3 days!
