OK how many people though that Eva was a great series till the last show.
It was like I watched all that and thats how they ended it. Worse of all then
they decided to make a movie like maybe we just didn't end it right so well fix
it with a movie and they messed it up even more it was like WHAT...
Ok i'll prob get letched for opening this thread ..
I disagree. The ending(s) hold a lot of metaphorical and psychological meaning. Evangelion is not an "easy" anime, one that lets you watch without needing to think too much (not that mindless is bad; we all need fluff now and then). It belongs in the category that houses Boogiepop Phantom, Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Renmei, Paranoia Agent; a category where deeper significance is explored, and plot threads are subtly left to untangle by the viewer, not by some "tadaa!" ending.
Evangelion also left me with a WTF feeling. Don't worry, that's normal. Just don't dismiss it as bad, rewatch it, and try to uncover what the anime is saying; because truly, Evangelion is one of the deepest animes out there, and deserves to be thought through.
this thread is in COMPLETELY the wrong place... and I'm pretty sure there's about a million threads on MT that have covered the NGE argument.
Well if you know me im not much of a deep person im all for the storylines with the heros vs the ultimate evil if the storyline is deep ok but i need an ending with closer
not that leaves you with the what next feeling.
For this being the wrong place to post this im sorry ive just joined this site.
Though i did here a rumor if anyone can confirm that they are planning to make a Manga of Eva with the storyline that Shinji Rei and Asuka are classmates as in that alternate timeline in the last episode.
The first time I watched the series I thought the last two eps were a let down. Then, later, I watched the series again as well as the movies. Blew my mind. Then I watched it again, after reading all possible articles and reviews on it, and making a point of looking for clues and trying tom make sense of all the alleged loopholes. Then the last two eps weren't so bad. The director wanted to make a more psycologically based ending rather than the cliche big bang ending. But after fans complained (including death threats) he made the movies to satiate the fans blood and action lust. Got their just rewards.
I must admit that if it wasn't for the controvesy on the ending and its follow up I wouldn't have tried so hard to make sense of the ending. It would just have been another action filled, yet abstract plot filled series and it would have been time to watch a new series. But becuase of all the hype I tried to see what Anno, the director, wanted the ending to be. Then it was a deeper and more meaningfull ending.
Therefore, because so many people complained, I made apoint of trying to understand the ending.
Anyway, could the manga you are refering to be "Girlfriend of steel?" I have the first 2 chapters so if it isn't finished by now its at least several volumes thick already. There's also going to be a live action movie sometime. Dunno when.
They didn't mess up the original ending, Gainax had run out of money to properly do the ending. Which is why after it's success they were able to do the End of Evangelion movie. Each ending is different...in the show, Shinji accepts the Human Instrumentality program and becomes one with everyone. In the movie he rejects it. The only thing I didn't like about the movie, was the fact you didnt find out what happened to them. However there is some relief for that problem in the form of a doujinshi called Re-Take. Which picks up right after the End of Evangelion, has a great twist to it, it's a little hentai but it's still very good.
I guess the big prob was a lot of no explainations like they did state the Angels were
different paths of Human evalution but were did they come from? At least they did state that Shinji's Mom was taken into Unit 01. I got the point that the dummy plug were Rei's clones to replaces the Human Pilots. though that really didn't work out.
but what was with Shinji's Father & Rei trying to reunite with his mother. when you
start thinking about different paths the show could of taken your head hurts.. LOL
You have to watch End of Evangelion to see the real ending. Episode 25 and 26 weren't the real ending, it was merely part of a human instrumental project. I remember seeing those last two episodes and felt really weird afterwards, like nothing was resolved, but none the less, I found it very deep and enjoyable to watch from an intellectual perspective.
The fans were all outraged by this, and demanded for a true ending. So they made End of Evangelion, and now if you got the updated dvds, you'll notice it only goes up to 24 and they included some footage that was cut previously in the series.
Hmm.. Evangelion. Inititally i hated evangelion from the start. But i kept watching it and it turns out to be pretty decent. The last two episodes were very weird but the other episodes were alright. I watched evangelion like umm two months ago and its pretty old fashion but its quite decent. It remind me of my umm my old school gundam wing in a weird way
. Very
deep anime indeed I say :P.
TV ending was the wrost anime ending ever. The real ending(OVA), was one of the coolest anime endings ever.
I actually liked the ending (if you're talking about the series, not the movies, which were crap). The TV series was never about the Eva's or about destroying the Angels and saving the world, etc. etc. It was about the characters, specifically Shinji. The ending showed a resolution to some of his psychological problems - it concluded the series because it concluded his character. I was quite happy with the series ending, and disappointed with both movies (although that was predictable after what I'd read about them, particularly the 2nd one).
The anime wasn't a real let down once you grasped the concept of it. You have to watch it along with the movies. The last eps (25 and 26), you could only understand if you watched the movies. It's a little weird, but I did it that way and I understood the whole thing. Evangelion is one of my favorites.
come on the the movie was worse everone dies except Shinji and Asuka
JERK!EVA RULZ
WTF!? Evangelion it's the best that you are not smart enough to appreciate the kiss @$$ Ending that it has doesn't means that it's bad the rest of us are happy with it! WELL I AM!
I saw the end of eva 2X while I like the series I still don't get the ending. though I still plan on getting as soon as I get a solid source of cash flow coming towards me.
There is. I's called NGE: Angelic Days and we bought the 1st volume.
"In which dating the right girl is more important than saving the world..." (Back cover quote)
I found it (1st time I watched it) the series was totally messing with my head... that because you'd probably need a degree in psychology to fully understand it all.
But it's not a bad ending. But you'll probably need to watch it a couple of time to understand it.
I agree that NGE is a very deep anime, but the should have made it diffrently. Personally i hated it, because it didn't have much to with the rest of the story. It's like cutting the plot and starting to talk about something else.
well Evangelion is not an easy anime to watch, it's way to loaded with psychology, inner problems and religion stuff. i find it amazing mainly because of shinji, it's a boy that is trying to find himself, a boy that lives to be praise by others, and he doesn't have a true image of who he is. i love the ending of the orignial series, the movie is just not right, it doesn't match the series ending, is like an alternative, mixed ending, Seele's invasion is actually coming, but you have a fu** up shinji, a boy who haven't found himself, the end of the movie is just way to classic, it resolves nothing... i prefer and ending that i don't like but brings closure to the characters, it actually ENDS!, but THE END OF EVANGELION was THE BEGGING OF AN NEVER ENDING PRAY TO GOD TO GAVE ME BACK MY MONEY, i was so upset, they could really use the story of Angelic Days, or something, Shinji must rebuild the world the way he wants to, but he resolves nothing, he's just a dumb boy with a weird love-hate relationship with asuka, who is also a mess, nothing really happed, i stay with the series, i love the series i hate the movie
Hmmm i have to say the NGE Was defenetly a deep series worthy of alot of thaught. althought i have to watch the series ending the final movie about 10 time befor ei can really figure it out. but that leaves alot to the imagination to figure out the ending for yourself i like the ended althought a bit to complicated but the ending really comes under comfusing but thats only nature most people that watch a long anime that deep never get the ending right of the bat but on love it or hate it i have to say i'm in between. maybe i should watch it again?
me likey the series' end better......but you know...in da movie...i get to see Rei naked... so (>_<) i can't decide.
Btw how many threads are there that are similar like this one...and yet i'd always reply
