Allright so I was tired of waiting for new member applications so I decided to
start it right now, please mouth-to-ear it to your friends so we can have a load
of entries~
I made this pretty easy so everyone who wants to give a shot at painting can.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Summary:
This is our very first group activity! So I'm looking forward to your
participation. It also is a mean to recruit more mebers so please diffuse the
info.
You will be asked to make a wallpaper of any resolution you want, and provide a
walk-through of your work afterwards.
Theme will be: Japanese Ancient and
Feudal Eras, and you will have to work with vegetation. Why? Because in
the old times there wern't that many cities, and people had a much closer
relation with nature.
Accepted Japanese periods: [Learn something here if you
are ignorant]
Nara, Heian, Kamakura, Muromachi, Sengoku, Momoyama, Edo, early Meiji - the
reform ( ex. kenshin is in-between edo and meiji)
One of these elements MUST be featured in your
wall:
Plants, Trees, Bushes, Mountains, Leaves, Grass, green stuff!
The "green" element does not have to be the main focus of the wall,
there will be no restrictions on how much space it has to take.
Doujinshis are accepted, as long as they are incorporated into a wallpaper.
Technique:
Important use of the smudge, paintbrush & airbrush tools in Adobe Photoshop,
or use of pro paint programs like PSP, OpenCanvas or Corel painter. Using the clone tool or painty filters only is cheatingg! You will be
scolded
You decide what and how much you paint in your wall. You do not need to paint
everything from scratch. Stock are accepted if painted over, same with vectors
and 3D renders (allthough I doubt you will want to use a 3D render for a feudal
wall D: )
Style:
Up to you. It doesn't have to be scenic. You also choose how "paint-y"
you want your wall to look. Allthough keep in mind you'll be juged on that.
NOT accepted types of scans
catgirls in miko outfits, altered costumes like naruto, bleach, inu-yasha, girls
going to a summer festival and modern kimonos. Lolita kimonos, sexy ninjas and
the sort.
Too supernatural is a no-go. A little bit of magic is fine because it fits the
historical legends, but nothing too flashy. Some examples of ambiguous you
wouldn't want to use: Shakugan no SHANA 11 by
dcss Air....kimono festival by
zainab-chan sana2 by
thinker123
Judging:
Done by the group staff (wich is only me for now ) unless you
organize a popular revolution for a democratic system. Yeah and underline that
organize word lol. You'll be judged
on;
Respect of theme and restrictions
Painting job/look
Originality, Aesthetics, Balance
(remember I'm a freak of well blended stuff and I like men in kimono :3
)
Prize:
A feature in the group page, a banner made out of your wall to advertise the
group, a forum sig saying you pwn and nekkid pictures of bromithia.
There will also be an award for the most votes wallpaper.
the Aftermath:
When the contest is finished and all the entries are handed over, I would like
for you to go back to your wallpaper psd, and make us a little walk-through of
the techniques you used on your vegetation elements. The walk-through can be a
fully lenghted tutorial (e.g. How to paint trees with PS) or just screenshots
and explanations on how you worked (on the whole wall or the painted part, you
pick). Everything will be added to the group's page as future reference.
This is to encourage members to share techniques and tutorials on digital
painting. Because we never stop learning, and because I think no one is really
that comfortable with painting in this
group. Great way to learn and help! Keep this in mind when making the wall, you
might want to take screenshots
All entries must be submitted to
MiniTokyo and posted in the paint-o-rama's guestbook before December Twentieth. This gives you a little bit
more than a month. Shortly explain how and where you used painting techniques in
your wallpaper description. You need to be a group member to participate.
Waiting for your feedback! Cheers
Ok, good, I was just about to ask whether all scans in the series you listed
were allowed.
For the walkthrough of the wall we submit, does it have to be extremely
detailed?
I've got a question: does the background scene have to be Ancient Japanese (ie
include shrines, cherry blossoms etc), or can it just be a landscape scene
incorporating the type of scan you've suggested?
Good question. I will have to say yes it does. No need for factual proof like
obligatory shinto elements or anything, but it should indeed give off a
feudal/ancient athosphere. If you're wondering what could that be I suggest you
read a bit about Japanese history, or just watch more anime
Yo folks!
I'm adding to the categories the Kaze Hikaru manga, even if
it's situated in Meiji era. Because I decided so. And I'll accept scans with the
Hikaru no Go dude even
if the manga isnt historical. After all, it's all a visual thing lol
merged: 11-03-2006 ~ 10:16pm
and new category for a couple of (low quality u_u ) scans from Sakuran manga
About that, do those trees/plant/bushes/leaves have to be green? Can it be
orangy/red/brown/yellow? ie autumn leaves and colours?
Just as a question (because it'll make life easier) how long does the tutorial
have to be?
For instance, the tutorial will have to be on the natural elements. What if you
have like a sky, animals, grass, trees (this is over the top but :P)- can we
just pick one element and run through the technique?
(That is, if the technique is pretty similar for each element anyway,
considering I don't know how to paint )
Or do we have to make one tutorial for every element we put in?
Heian Jidai by candy-chan
Very nice and very painty. xD
Candy, I've just bolded the due date because it didn't pop out enough.
I'd
love to enter but it's the worst time of the year to do anything.
But but but! considering the prize of nekkid image of brom, I'd rather not enter. LOL.
Oh yeah, candy, you could have also said, if you can't be bothered with scans, just make a scenic wall out of nothing without a Japanese girl.
hurray
a tutorial? I'll try my best so there won't be so many mistakes u__u
eeehh what ? >__>;; how troublesome . *LOL*
I think I'll give it a try if I can actually make something out with .. such a theme .
ahahaha xD *starts sketching ghei men in kimonos*
this is such a well-organized thread. i might participate if i have the time candy~ :3
ahh i wish i could join in the contest but i dont know how to paint that well T-T
Ok, good, I was just about to ask whether all scans in the series you listed were allowed.
I might join.. if I can stay interested for a long enough period of time :X
LOL... ghei men in kimonos <3
Ginko doesn't count? o.o;;
Ginko has modern clothes D:
how could god tell if he lives in a feudal period if he's dressed like that lol
the wall has to stay in the theme
WAH... but but but... Ginko is so cool... ;_;
Just FYI... FY is Chinese feudal and Shin Shukaden is a Korean fairytale...
yeah I'm realising all of the quick browsing I did wasn't all that good lol.
Use discernment when choosing your scan please :]
woooo interesting
december 1st~ okie i'll keep that in mind ^___^
...............*now in search for a suitable scan*
Like Flyindreams proposed we will also be having a vote for the most popular award. Ta daah
EDIT: answer to maplerose:
yeh it's goody
okay, before I get any further, I want to know if this is acceptable, of if I need to incoporate some changes (suggestions would be nice too)
Click
it's still a WIP, I need to paint the cliff and sky still, but how is it going so far? (oh this is about half the size I'm working in btw.
Yo folks!
no no just one (about 5 steps minimum I'd say) is enough
