and read the Old Testament you'll find something interesting:
1. The angels that appear to Lot ijn Sodoma, in Genesis, appear like two
beautiful teenagers... but not gender. Some happy pederast who happened to be
Lot's neighborgs wanted to have fun with them, but luckily the angels have
powers and left the perverts blind... Uuuf!
This is why Renance representations of angels in paintings are mostly androgyn
teens.
2. But if you read more (I don't exactly remember where, I think Jeremias, but I
can be wrong) cherubs are fire tornadoes... I don't know wich painters wanted to
represent them like naked happy babies... perhaps because they looked better
than tornadoes.
3. Seraphins are giants with 6 wings, and you can't see their faces...
4. In Revelations, Archangel Michael is a warrior...
So, The monster descriptions of Neogenesis Evangelion are more closely
resembling the high choruses of angels. The low choruses, like guardian angels,
are suppossely to appear like androgyn teens... and painters represent them
so...

much in classical art (as ppl already mentioned), but in modern culture, esp in
cartoons and animation, angels are represented to be more feminine (that's not
to say there aren't masculine angels, just that feminine ones occur more, esp

In CLAMP's Wish, Kohaku isn't supposed to be male or female (same goes with
devils), but it seems that CLAMP represents the angels more feminine and the
devils more masculine (and the translation uses she and he pronounces
respectively).
Also, you see in Pita Ten that angels are indeed females (Misha). But I guess
when it comes to anime, it all depends on the creator. There could be both
female angels and male angels, or neither, or one or the other, depending on the
creator.

human in appearance, and have six wings. Two are used to cover their feet, two
to cover their face, and two for flying.

As for gender, yeah, angels generally appeared in the form of men, with a few

Megumi's house had changed, leaving no evidence that a boy lived there. That was
the start of A Cheeky Angel.
I think that in general... most people might feel that angels are girls at

but...honestly I think boys can be angels to. I think I just think of girls
because whenever you see pictures of angels they always seem to be girls.

I read that manga years back so my memory on it is a bit patchy. But if I remember correctly, that "angel" is a guy. isn't he?
On a more general topic, I feel that angels are "bi-sexual": they can be man or woman, just like a human can be a male or female.
