watch anime! no anime, no manga, no nothing!

Since you have access to the internet I assume you are computer savvy enough to
hide whatever you need on your PC. Download whatever you want and watch it on
computer. If you have a DVD player on your PC you can of course watch all your
legal stuff on your PC.
But I believe that if it is important enough to you then you will be able to
convince your dear old mother that it is simply a form of entertainment no worse
than anything else you may see on TV (the inactivity of doing nothing while
watching TV for X number of hours a day is more harmfull physically than
whatever the alleged "brain damage" you might receive).
well my only advise is that you speak with her and show her something (anime)
nice like fruit basket
something that have good story and really simple NO MAGIC, summons,NO DEMONS, no
vamp.. etc and show her the differnce between (normal) anime and NORMAL daily TV
or Movies that the contenct in sex drug an violence is really high compare to
anime

Hey, that totally stinks! You know, you should talk to your mom about it. She
knows you better than that "idiot" does, so why not talk to her about
it. I know how you feel because recently somebody told my best friend that all
anime was evil. My friend is such a sweetheart that she starting to worry about
what that person said. But what her mother and priest (she was so worried she
talked to a priest about it, poor kid!) told her was that there is nothing wrong
with watching animes. Sure few animes are completely clean, but if you ran away
from everything because there is something questionable in it then you would be
running away from everything. As long as the anime or manga does not cause to
have impure thoughts, or inspire you to do anything wrong(such as hurting
others, drugs, stealing, killing, anything impure, drinking alchol, and so on);
then it would not be bad for you to watch or read them.
However the "idiot" may have something, if he/she was talking about
animes specifically devoted to obscene, impure imagery. These types of animes
should be avoided, but if the animes you watch are not like that then they won't
mess with you brain anymore than any other TV show.
Anime is often branded as something bad, so another thing you should mention to
your mother is that alot of animes are not as bad as alot of american TV
shows.
Lastly have your mother sit down and watch your animes with you, and let her see
for herself what they are like. If she thinks they are unsuitable for you then
you should obey her decision. Do not take the bootlegging advice; it is alot
more fun to watch a show with a free conscience.
P.S. Don't be embarassed to have your mom preview your mangas and animes. My mom
and my friend's mom do it for us, and it is more fun because that way you will
have another otaku in the family. You may be surprised! God Bless!

You will see the difference between Otaku
and Hikkikomori(NEET). Otaku is not a
mentally ill person, unlike hikkikomori. If you turn out to be a normal guy,

to manipulate your mother just like joemighty16 told you to.
Somebody manipulated your mother, who has an influence on you - revert it.
It's a fact that most of the stuff in TV is CRAP. Downloading anime enables you
to control the quality of what you are watching.
I already helped some of my friends - they had exactly the same problem you

I hate to be in an shoe you ended up in. Anime, like anything else as form of
entertainment, does have its good and bad however, I do like to ask a question
though. Did your grade suffered because of anime? If it did, then I would kind
of understand (not totally) why your parents took such a drastic action. But if
that is not the case than you need to convince your parents that they made a
mistake in their decision. Show them some of the best that the anime can offer
like Miyazaki films. If they still won't budge than the only alternative is to
move out and start living on your own.
This is only temporary setback for you. If you really love anime you can get
back later.
i can't imaging not watching anime. i also can't imaging doing what my mom told
me. she confiscated 4 nine inch nail CD's and i just went and rebought them
everytime...

anyway? Is she a born again Christian type? That's the most common problem
around here when I hear this sort of thing.
If your mother is reasonable try to talk it out, if she wants you to tone it
down then try to compromise (that means less violence an ecchi - at least in
front of her). Like said above try to show her a positive side of your hobby and
keep the stuff she doesn't want to see away from her (like at a friend's house
or something).
