Ever since Yawara! was licensed I've been hopeful that the older anime series
will get brought to the US. What are some older series you think would be able
to be sucessful in the US? Do you think older shounen titles are more likely to
get licensed than old shoujo titles?
I'm personally surprised that Rose of Versailles was never brought to the US, I
hear it's actually quite popular in France. I know I'd love to see Hime-chan no
Ribon get a nice DVD release in the states. I think with Aka-chan no Boku
getting a release in shojo beat magazine there might be a demand for the anime
sometime as well.
So, does anyone know when Animeigo will be opening for pre-orders for Yawara?
This is a very hard to answer question. I don't know what anime are the US
citizen to be allow to see, but will be great if many of those great anime shows
from the 70's and early 80's be license in US, since in countries like mine we
had the chance to watch many great animes during those years, but unfortunately
the technology was little so, is hard that a person have any copies of all those
titles. Some lucky ones have VHS versions of many of these shows, not with great
quality but good enought to enjoy.
I cannot remember the address, but some months ago I found a guy in some arabian
country that had mostly of these videos transfer to DVD's as they were seen then
with the languages that were allow to be translated then.
I know that for many US fans, the approach to anime probably has become
significan within the last years of the 90's and beginning the 21st century, but
you guys have miss some quite nice ones.
I cannot recall names of these shows, but might be possible that some of them
where barely air at US during the 70´s and 80´s.
I would love to see Future Boy Conan licenced - it's Miyazaki, so people are
bound to buy it. And where the heck are the first and third Lupin III series?
They should be brought over too!
I would also love to get at least the first season of Kaikan Phrase on DVD too,
but that won't be licenced because of the music...
This is kind of opposite but isn't it funny that DVD version of KOR (Kimagure
Orange Road) was licensed by Animeigo and Japan never released one? Now I heard
that VAP will finally release TV and OAV version sometime next year in February.
I too would love to see Future Boy Conan licensed here.
the anime i would like to see licensed is v gundam or macross 7, those were
great series but since now that they are so old people probably wont have a hard
following because it doesnt have the updated graphics like naruto, bleach or
fullmetal alchemist, animes that have been released within a year or two of
their japan airing dates

I don't think that's too uncommon now a days. For example, the original 2
seasons of Sailor Moon haven't been released on dvd in Japan, but ADV put out
those box sets, but their license for it already expired.
Rose of Versailles all the way. It'll be a cold day in hell when the TV series
gets picked up (unless Animeigo gets desperate again, as I devoutly hope will
occur), but I have some hope for the manga. If Swan can get pulished here, maybe
Rov can too. I'd also like to see Aka-chan to Boku, and since Viz has the manga
that could happen, and the anime never even got fansubbed.
Maybe japanese version of flint the time detective? i dont know really, they
might do if anime population gets bigger, though of coruse people ahev to stop
ripping DVD's first and buy the DVD's themselves!

oh i know one.. uhm.... oh.. a BL anime that i like alot forgot the name of it
tohugh think i remember it now
After School in The Teachers lounge (and no they dont do anything after school
in the teachers lounge eithier ;; get yah
mind out of the gutter, its actually quite light and nice ^^ no yaoi in it at
all.)
I'd like to see the original Captain Harlock. The new one was pretty cool, and
that guy has one of the only space ships that is arguably cooler than the
Millenium Falcon.
I was going to say Hunter X Hunter, but technically speaking, it IS licensed.
Viz has the rights to it's US distribution on DVD. They're shopping it around to
see if anyone wants to braodcast it on TV first, and that should hopefully lead
to a DVD release. If I don't see a US DVD HXH release in my lifetime, I'm going
to be really pissed (though I'd really be dead at that point and then it won't
matter).
I'd like to see Pita-Ten, He Is My Master, Sexy Commando Gaiden (no, it's NOT a
H-anime, even though it was made in '98) Tenshi na Konamaiki (Cheeky Angel) and
D.C. Da Capo licensed. Including the Fafner: Right of Left OAV. (kinda weird
that I have both the Fafner OAV and He Is My Master burnt on DVD)

Usagi-chan de cue, thats what i'd like to see. Both the manga and the anime, plus it'll no doubt sell well due to the amount of ecchi content :p
Heck if it does ever get a licence i just hope it comes out to australia, that or just import from US

I'd also love to see Chibi Maruko-chan come to the states, it's so fun and adorable.

Ashita no Joe!
Anything by Leiji Matsumoto that haven't been licensed yet, like the Galaxy Express 999 series, for instance.
Doraemon!

Minky Momo series... i can't find it anywhere but Japan.
And it's quite expensive.
Actually, Aka-chan to Boku was fansubbed, back in the day when fansubs were done on VHS
I have 7 volumes of it, but no one ever finished subbing it.
I'd like to see Victory Gundam be liscenced.
