american cartoons can't compete with anime

Obviously everybody is gonna say that anime is better than american cartoons on an anime forum However, I have to say that cartoons are really quite diverse. Look at old school G.I Joe, Transformers and the Simpsons. I really enjoyed these when I was younger. I still like the Simpsons nowadays. Current cartoons like Family Guy and South Park touch on subjects and trivia that anime will never cover. So all in all, both have their plusses and minuses. I'm not gonna cover animation, cuz thats just personal preference.

Negatives of cartoons:
- not always in-depth
- not always continuous

Negatives of anime:
- usually overdramatic
- almost every anime has the same theme (e.g some love confession story, a loser with low self esteem becomes cool, etc)
- they almost always draw women who have nearly impossible body measurements

It's all comes down to preference, really.

there are so many things that differ an anime from american cartoons and for my opinion is the storyline, that makes anime a lot better than amercian cartoons

I'd say the categories for anime/cartoons would be rougly look like this:

Kids up to 12 : cartoons like the stuff they show on cartoon network
Age 13-20: anime
age 20+ : cartoons like Family Guy, South Park, Simpsons, Drawn Together, etc. The ones that touch on more mature, often political, subjects

Story, intrigue, art style(s), character depth and development, level and intensity of action. Did I mention kick-@$s giant robots? >:D I admit to having a soft spot for Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Merry Melodies gang, but for the most part, modern anime blows the modern American crap away.

i admit there are some american cartoons that have come out, but I find anime more appealing. I think the problem with most american cartoons is that they let it run to its no longer popular. Unlike anime which has a set number of episodes. Not only that the art style is vastly different. Anime seems to be a lot more detailed and seems to flow better in regards to displaying action, emotion, etc.

american cartoons don't have as good story lines as animes. i also prefer the drawing style of japanese anime to american cartoons

American cartoon are much too american... one can go stupid if they watch too much ameri-cartoons. It's not that there aren't silly anime, but the japanese have a much developed taste for this... let's not compare Pokahontas with ... GiTS Innocense... >:p

hmm...why i think it's because of the originallity, jap animes are more original, some of the american animes are copies but it does not look like the original not that i dun like them or anything it's just that they dun really explore and excerise the story they make it seems really brief and stuff like that, i think they should work on it more, and i think they'll get better..! but i still prefer jap animes, cause the voice characters and all that sounds nicer too..! =p

hmmmm... i wouln't say that anime is better , but it c ertainly does carry its own ceratin charm that american cartoons do not.

I don't think is wise to say that anime is better than any other kind of animation, but with no question anime is kinda "catchy". The reasons are quite simple.
While american cartoons were pretty much "made for kids", then usually those older viewers that still watch let's say Looney Tunes or Tom and Jerry is because they still enjoy the "nonsense" or funny schemes that these present. Also remaind us good moments of our childhood.

Anime style reaches many ages and it pretends to be more "serious" or dramatic. While mostly american films and cartoons are always about "happy endings", japanese animation has that touch of "things are not the way we want", or the "realistic touch" of "this is life".

Of course that doesn't mean that japanese animation has not happy endings also, but they focus on more serious threats, like the loss of someone dear, the injustice, the "mind play", the fear.

American cartoons have evolved significally from my point of view, you can see that in mostly comics, about this I preffer not to mention for example "The Simpsons" since I feel that been sarcastic, crazy or obscene does not necessarily means that you are "more realistic".

Is anime better than american cartoons, in some ways it is, in some others need to evolve, but you cannot denied that "reachs more" that american cartoons.

I don't know, I like jap anime more than ameri cartoons, in cartoons you can't have Gothic Lolitas, Kawai girls, exelent story, some ecchi, MOE! , action, blood, giant swords, mecha, or a peaceful cherry blossom, you can't have all this good thing in ameri cartoons, besides, must of the ameri cartoons are not artistic, like anime, beutyful background, and a bunch of stuf more, lets just say anime better than cartoons.

anime is a better coz the story for each episode is so attractive and not so boring.for american cartoon, not interesting for me.

Hmm if u watch cartoon on american u'll see the drawing and the painting it's not the same cuz if they object is goin to move it's a bit darker and all that but in a japanese anime the object is all in the same colour tone making it real heheh

Well some of that statements, I must agree.

TeoAmagari i would have to agree with you cause it does reflect the way life is and it is able t have real things happen the characters and other things with out haveing to do any fack garbadge like in real shows

-First of all, the characters can give you more than cartoons
-Second, the stories are deeper (they don't need to have real life, it's fantasy)
-Third, anime is a world where everything is possible (cartoons are too, but they are too limited because of their creators lack of imagination)
-Fourth, they're better drawn
-Fifth, they say anime is already considered as Art, cartoons will never archieve that goal

I have always thought that japan could make better stuff than the usa! Just look at bahamut from finalfantasy in my opinion he is the most beautiful creation that will ever be beside masane from witchblade, the us can't create things like that. Just face it america sucks, I think if japan could really get a military going they could make thing that would make us piss our pants, mothership mechs laser that can blow up 1000 miles etc etc ! Yeah........it could happen lol. I mean heck japan is leading in electronics for years! But anyways i'm not trying to get off topic I just don't know where to post thats all, but please except me.
