I am asking this question to see how many people here actually know this fruit that is only found in Asia

i do we got lots of em here in the philippines..it smells bad lol...i actually compare the smell to tires haha

I do. Haven't seen one up here in Seattle because apparently they go bad quickly. But I've always wanted to try one -- with a clothespin on my nose, of course.

isn't it the fruit that has a really stong smell... and really unpleasant furthermore - but I guess it's each his/her own ?

i remeber that one one relative brougth one in a room and nothing special could be smelt but few minutes later, its strong smell made me ask to put it somewhere else.

mmm. ... it's very popular here in Indonesia....

the smell comes from the alcohol substance that's in the fruit.. yeah, at first, he smell is *ack* but the taste is good, and your hands can be quite messy while eating it ^^

It's a fruit. The outer part has spines and is green in colour. The inside, well, it's, don't know how to describe it.
Well, yeah, got this fruits in Malaysia. But I don't like the smell. Once I ate it, taste *yucky*. Well, for me. Because I don't really know how to eat, although I'm a Malaysian.

Yup AnG nos wat a durian is .. is a fuit and it smells baddddddd ... it tastes ok tho .. .. but AnG dont like it..

i've seen a durian, my grandparents buy them every once in a while from the asian market. they taste ok and the smell is kind of hard to get used to...i think that's all i know about durian. Oh and it's spiky on the outside.

I'm Indonesian....ah boring talk about durian, smells bad also, but very expensive fruit.
tastes sweet, sometimes taste like beer's smell. personally i don't like beer.
and remember, don't eat durian along with consuming soda-based drinks, eg : beer,alchohol etc.
and you cannot consume medicines before/after eat durian. the durian itself contains some kind of alcohol.
take full caution of this, you may not believe, but many people died here becoz consuming durian along with alcohols, medicines, some sort like that.

I've seen in in Chinese supermarkets in California, u.s.
i heard it tastes really good but never tried it myself.
I also heard that it smells bad.

Hahaha...Its really weird and funny that most of you think that durians are smelly... Well, maybe its because i got used to it because durian is a really common fruit in Malaysia...Anyway, if you want to know what's smelly, you all should try Hong Kong's "smelly tofu" (direct translation from Chinese)...It smells really badd..I havent tried it before but many people thinks that it taste bad...However, there are also many people who thinks it taste very good...From what i heard,it smells like the sewers and you can smell the stench from very far away....You all should try it someday...LOL~

It's yummy! I wonder what's so bad about the smell hahah. Some people have told me it smells incredibly horrid to them and they can't stand it but once they eat it, it's ok lol that's strange. If I eat too much i get a stomach and headache and the occasional brain freeze ><

They smell pretty bad. Very disictive smell. I tried it before and I though it was okay. Hate the feeling of it. Nearly made me throw up. =|

I don't find the smell of a durian unpleasant. But then, I do freeze it in a fridge for quite a while, so I guess a lot of the stench gets freezied away

It's realy sweet. but sometimes i can't bear it's smells. especialy the type called d24 or sometype worser than that

lol~ that's what we do when others complain about the smell They even have durian popsicles at my local korean market ^^ *yum*

durian is good...depend on which type u eat...some of durian have got a bit of XO smell to it..

however, i recommend u to brush ur teeth after it or eat some mint..
cause ur breathe really stink after eating it

The smell is usually unbearable for people who aren't from countries that have them, mostly South East Asian countries such as Malaysia,Singapore and Indonesia
The fruit inside is usually sweet, but its very heaty so its best to drink water after you eat
Yeah I think durian cannot be taken with alcoholic beverages, I think its fatal
