Hello there! I've just uploaded a first scan to Minitokyo earlier today, and it
got deleted. I have an inquiry to make about this (I would like to stress that I
do NOT by any means wish to break any rules, I'm a mod on a forum myself so I
understand perfectly well - I
am just curious so that I do not make any future mistakes).
The scan I uploaded was a vector not made by me (which I stated in the credits),
and I submitted it as a Not My Scan >> Female Scans.
The artwork/doujinshi you submitted entitled Morning Hakufu was removed from
Minitokyo because it violated the following policy:
- The image was directly taken from another website or an image gallery, with or
without modifying. Such pieces cannot be uploaded at all; only artwork created
by yourself is allowed to be submitted in the IndyArt section.
Repeated violation of this rule will lead to banning.
Sincerely,
Minitokyo Staff
This is an automated message and cannot be replied.
You can always post your picture in the Anime Picture Dump.
Now, it says here that artwork has to be created by myself to submit it to the
IndyArt section; even though I believe I submitted it to the scans section...
My question is, for uploading scans...
1) Are scans allowed only as long as noone else has edited them (in this case a
vector)? I think this may have been the problem (and I apoligise), but I want to
know for sure before I make the same mistake twice.
or
2) Are scans by someone else (edited or no) allowed as long as you credit them,
in the Scans section, but not the Indy Art section (I know that IndyArt can be
-only your own- work, but the message I got about the deletion confused me a
little, can scans only be your own as well? Or is it the case of #1) I posted above)?
Thank you very much for your support and I hope I will be able to contribute to
this community more.
Basically the problem is you uploaded a vector that was not made by you. You
can't upload any sort of artwork unless you have made it yourself, that is you
can't upload by any means vectors, doujins or wallpapers not created by you even
if you give proper credit in any section of MT.
You can upload unaltered scans that were either scanned by you or that you found
around the net, that is unless those images were originated at the sites listed
on the Gallery FAQ and also
making sure those scans are not duplicated by browsing the category it would
belong to (series, games or artists).
Well, you understand that Indy Art must be made by you... but this also applies
to submitting art that you didn't make as a Scan. It isn't really a scan, it is
still art that someone else made.
Vectors take a lot of time and effort to create. Imagine how you would feel if
you had spent days working on a vector, and then found it was submitted on
another site. So even though you submitted it as a scan, it is still someone
else's vector & that's why it was classed as Ripped Art.

Interessting thing to note is, that vectors are basically "Ripped Art"
, too... They are based of art that someone else made.
Theres lots of drama potential in this (see devianart for example). Making a
vector and claiming it as yours without crediting the author of the art you
traced from is... well ... unfair, too isnt it ?

Whether you want to call it a vector of tracing makes no
difference to the facts.
You're making a completely moot point that has nothing to do with the original
question... and a vector is NOT ripping.
The point is that submitting someone else's vector IS ripping

That is why MT advocates to putting up the link of the original scan in the description.
That way it won't be unfair, would it?
