There are lots of people that I have met on-line who say they have had crushes on anime characters (crushes as defined in the "puppy love" catagory). I don't know about any of you guys, but I find it a little odd for someone to have any sort of emotional attachment to a drawing or 2-dimensional character. Though seeing as I have not yet experienced such a feeling, it probably isn't fair for me to be the judge of that.

So I guess my question is: Is it possible for an anime fan to develop crushes on anime characters?

Um....yes. And no. yes and no. extremely hard to explain. I'm looking at a person who had once had a "crush" on aaime charater....if not more then one. But he's grown out of that, he has a crush when he was very young and childish and doesn't understand much back then. Let's say...11 years old perhaps, if not younger. But i dont think its possible to have a crush on a anime charater when you are a teenager....corret me if im wrong. I better stop staring at him now befor he starts to wonder wtf im doing... (puts down mirror)

Actually I have had a few i'd say about 5 total & they were when I was a teen.

I imagine it can happen, although I've never experienced it firsthand. People see qualities in a character that they would look for in a g/b friend and perhaps develop an attraction

If it can happen with movie characters, who are equally as fictional, then I suppose it happening to anime characters is that much of a stretch

i think it might be mainly on lust... cuz the characters are so pretty and so... perfect in their anatomy... that's why we make such beautiful wallpapers... to make a background of beauty that will fit the character's own...

Crush? Maybe when I was younger ... Yup, I think it was then. But if anyone has a crush on them it's probably mostly their physical aspects. Also if someone still has a crush on this anime character after quite some years, they should seek some professional help. It's not really healthy to be obsessed and in love with a 2-dimensional character, this is especially with nerds, because they can never get a girl in real life, they're always looking for someone like that character. Which will never happen, cos they're so freaky. Anyway, it is possible, but hopefully they are young and get over it.

It is possible.. thru a certain perception, most anime girls depict the ideal qualities you've sought for and get attached to it, sometimes even you can relate with the character herself.

Its just a 'crush' state IMO, you ain't planning to woo her which is too.. well.. haha =P farfetched.

well... if ppl can hav crushes on celebs, why not anime characters? and anime characters can be very attractive in looks and personality...

Oh yes. It's definitly is very possible. People who love anime must really like a certian character. Like they would get scans of that character and turn that image into something beautiful (and by this I mean making a wallpaper) I say it's normal to have a crush on an anime character. I for have a "puupy love" on Yuzuki. lol

Of course its possible! ^_^ Sorry its kinda obvious, perfect looking, nice personality why not? Of courseit would just be purely a crush but yeah it happens. They are after all 'people' in the anime. I don't though, bit old for that and also come on, they're not real s owhat would be the point? ^_^

When i was younger i really had a big crush on Shiryu on the Saint Seiya series.

I think it's possible...in the light-hearted sense at least. You know, sort f how us guys hang up posters of Jessica Alba or something. They're there, and you can love 'em, but your chances of actually getting to have a relationship are nil. The reason we have crushes on anime characters is the fact that we sympathize with them, like their seemingly perfect anatomy, or maybe because they just have a great personality.

My crushes right now would have to be Kaede Fuyou from SHUFFLE! (because she's cute, and goes psycho for not being loved) and Toujou Aya from Ichigo 100% (because she's a very hot, but very shy nerd-type girl).

I don't think it's a crush on the imaginary character so much as the idea of the character. I've had "crushes" on character, but I never had the urge to make out with my computer screen. It was more like, I wish I could meet an actual person with the "real world" equivalent to their personality and looks so I can make out with them.

Yes, it's possible. And is sad.
Most sad.

But is comprehensible. If you have a favourite character in some serie, this means you have more affect toward this character. So, this show we can have affect with a 2 dimension draw, but not the draw, the idea behind it.
We can have affection with an idea, and that's not new. So, if we can have, some can have A LOT!

yeah, it is possible I guess. I've had them, but I wouldn't call them crushes persay... it's just that you become attached to that character because they look good, or they have a great personality, or you really relate to them. I wouldn't really call it a crush unless you actually develop some puppy-love feelings for that character, but it is possible to become attracted to them in a way that seems like a crush, but I think it's different, it's just hard to explain the differences
