When you're little parents usually ask, "What you want to be when you grow
up?" Right? Ever since I was little, I wanted to grow up and work with
animals, and I still want to do that... but I'm having problems with making my
dream become a reality. I think this is a friends/family/community
question...
Have any of you wanted to be anything special and it work out (or not) for you?
Did you ever accomplish your lifelong ambitions or aspiration?
I wonder if we all could listen to each other's stories and all of us try to
help one another get a little closer to their personal "dream." What
do you guys think? Do any of you want to share their dream and ask for ideas
from the others here?
When I was little, I always wanted to be an author...
But now, I wanted to open my own animation studio...
I'd like to make my own anime...^^,
In away, I guess I could still be an author...
I'm not sure if I'll get there...but someday, I think I might.
I'm still in high school...
What u need to accomplish ur dreams are ur hardwork n also supports from ur
friends and family...^^, (I guess)
My best friend and I have the same dream and we've promised each other that when
we grow up, we'll open the studio together...
I guess a promise like that is probably childish but it helps motivating me by
letting me know that I'm not alone pursuing that dream...
My parents don't really support that dream of mine but I;ll show them one day
that it will be a success...
I guess, since I wanted to become an author or a mangaka author, I practiced at
fanfiction.net by writing lots and lots of fanfics...^^,
It sounds like you know what you want to do with your life. That's alot to say
when you're still in high school. I'm really happy for you and I hope everything
works out for you.
When I was little I wanted to be an artist. Now I want to do something else. If
I talked about it with my parents they would probably say something like you
can't get any money out of it or how would you do it if you don't earn anything
out of it or something like that maybe. Point is I want a job that allows me to
travel the world while allowing me the freedom of doing anything I want or at
least something that I like while traveling. I realized I wanted this after
summer vacation. Hmm.... you're probably thinking: "That's not
possible" or something along those lines aren't ya? I'm being selfish by
thinking this while everyone else is slaving away at their work/working hard
right? Gomen nasai, sorry. Now I'm just rambling. Well that's it.
To hinotama:
I don't think you're selfish or anything like that. You want something for
yourself and you think you'll enjoy it. Why not want to trave the world? Have
you ever wanted to learn a couple different languages? I know that some business
and language majors travel the world for many different jobs. You might want to
look into those, if you're interested in either of them.
My parents, my mother especially, wanted me to do what I wanted. "Do
something you love, so when you work... its not work, its love."
I love working with animals. I've never had much money. I know that there's not
much money in that kind of stuff, unless you're a Vet. However, I still want to
do that. Its hard getting started though. I have my college degree, but people
still want me to have done more to get a job. I don't know what else to do.
I think you (hinotama) should do what you want to do, and your paresnt should
respect your desires. However; I think its wise to let your them know that you
value their wishes (whatever they might be), but let them know that you think
your dreams are important too.
Sit down and think about what you want out of your life.
Where do you want to be in 5, or 10 years?
What do you need to do or learn to go where you want to?
How can you get there?
I know life is difficult, but we've all got to get going... or we'll "miss
the bus".
Thanks again for sharing your aspirations and don't forget to let me know what
you think of my ideas.
I think it's great you guys are shooting for what you want rather than what
people expect of you. After all your personal fulfillment is a lot better than
anything money can bring.
As for working with animals there's a variety of things that you can do. You can
work with natural preserves and help with conservation. You can work with
non-profit agencies in a variety of things. You can help train and take care of
animals in a variety of locations. You can become a stage performer working with
animals like those in SeaWorld and zoos. There are lots of places.
hinotama you could become a flight attendant or pilot. You get to travel the
world every day of your life. I know someone who want be a pilot. You can be an
international journalist. You can work with the US Embassy. There's lots of room
for travel there.
As for myself I have a tough time doing figuring out what I want to do with my
life as well. Right now I'm taking all the college classes that would satisfy
the career avenues I am currently interested in. I think they'll help me pin
down exactly what I want to do. I like to keep my options open.

Its good to keep your options open. I did that in college too. I tried to be
"well rounded." It makes you really flexible in many different job
fields. Unfortunately, right now I'm having problems with finding a regular job
in general. My wildlife major never really had a good paycheck that went with it
to begin with. Hopefully something will come up to tide me over until I can do
something I REALLY want to do.
I think that a job at SeaWorld or Bush Gardens would be a pretty sweet. They
want someone who has ~10 years of experience, and I'm not in my mid 30s nor have
that kind of experience.
Well, I'm only 20 and haven't finished University yet, so I certainly haven't
accomplished my lifelong ambition. I think it's possible, although I don't know
if it'll ever happen. But I'll work towards it anyway, because I've made that my
long-term goal. It seems pointless to get depressed that I might not make it
right now though. Yes I really want it very badly, but no I'm not out of time. A
life-long ambition is just that - something that could take up your whole life
to achieve. So I won't get impatient over it qyuite yet.
haha in the past i wanted to be a psychologist..
i still do and i'll most probably study psychology in uni...
and maybe i'll work as a coach at some company while studying.
when i was a kid i wanted to be a racer :P to work to the formula or dakaar or
however it's called
now im going university for pc programming
those 2 things doesn't even stuck so i think my child dream has wore off ;p
To mechanical-angel:
I never really understood psychology myself, but good luck with your future
studies.
To Necrostriker:
My bf does that now and he loves it. He always is making some program that'll be
a game or something. I bet, sometime in the future when you get a good job(since
some programmers get lots of $$), you could at least do the "ride with the
racers" thing and be in the car going around 260mph. That would personally
scare me to death, but I bet it you would love it.
and i love my Job like a pc programmer, its quite fun making some programs like
calculators, cash machines games, videos and many others that i dont remember
right now ;P
ps: yothsothgoth gl with your studies and job too i hope you will fulfill your
dreams
I am just learing xhtml and "simple" stuff like that (not simple for
me though )... so maybe if I keep learning, I'll understand where he's coming
from better when he's talking about code. Maybe. I hope I can get more him
interested in learning about animals.
Thanks again for posting and I hope they keep rolling in.
When i was little i wanted to be a doctor

I'm bad with seeing blood too. I kinda wanted to be a vet, but I can't stand to
cut them open or to 'put down' an animal. I
would just cry if I had to.
I babysit. That's about all I can do with kids...
Good luck with your future endeavors.
When I was a small kid, I always loved all the talk about science and detective
stuff. So I wanted to be something like an doctor, scientist or a detective.
Man, I really wished for it.
But these days im more into drawing and design, but my future is quite clear. Im
just not sure what I am supposed to work with. But I plan to get a good job I
can live on, and design when I am at home. If I get a chance to live on my
interest (drawing) I would love to do that. But its so hard in that business so
I prefer a steady work with good pay. Then you can be rest assured that your
life wont get screwed up, and you can still design at your free time from work
^^
I had no dreams nor ambition when i was young. Even now i juz study to make my
life better and make my life better for myself and my parents (maybe this is an
ambition already, i dont know). Anyway, when i was young there i didnt really
have anythings solid like i wanna become a doctor or somethings. All i can say
is i am a better man today then the me yesterday.
I hope things are going well for you then.
Sometimes, I don't know what to do next. Like, what's the next step in getting
towards my goal? Is it the right steps? Am I doing the right things? You just
never know, but yeah... I am in a better place than I started out.
Like you I always wanted to work with animals. I knew when I was little that I
was going to be a vet and have a farm with horses where I could give lessons and
have as many as I wanted. Well that isn't something that is ever going to happen
for me. I found out at 14 that I am going blind. I am 23 now and my vision is
pretty bad. I still don't know what I want to do now. I think that very few
people get to be what they wanted to be when they were little. I wish that I had
more encouraging advice. Sorry...
Have you ever thought about being a teacher of some sort?
Like the kind that goes and teaches children about animals?
Even if your sight is impared, you could lecture while your assistant displays
the animals. I think (to me) that would be a fullfilling job, teaching kids
about animals.
Also, I think, if there is no possibility to repair your vision, that you could
still become involved with animals. Even a working at a vet's office. I don't
know for sure. However, I'm sure that there is something out there for you...
and I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
Haiz i`m only 16, and i still can`t see what my future will be lke, i don`t
really have a really dream becuz i`m scare of dissapointing myself if i set too
high a standard... Just a few days before, my teacher have oral with me and ask
me what is my plan for my future, to truthfully say, i dunno... How to say, what
i`m interested in is different from what i am studying now, like no link... So
my teacher ask me then why did you chose the course at the first place? I
flashback it`s my fren who persude me, cuz if i take my subject now, it would be
better for me to enter the university.... I`m in big confuse now, firstly becuz
i dun feel like entering uni now, i want to join the polytechnic and end it
would end after 3 years... But my friends around me said i can`t get a well paid
job if i dun get me uni cerfiticate...
1) Junior colleage -> university (5-6 years)
2) Polytechnic ->(3 years)
haiz which do you tink i shud work hard for?
i dont really like it when my parents asked me that for, i still have no idea
and they kept pressing on it and i replied them: " i will take up all the
jobs and see whether i like any, if not i shall just go marry a rich guy and
become a taitai(rich lady, onli knows how to spend money)"
that made them kept quiet
Sometimes it depends on where you are from in the world. Going to a higher
education school (either college or polytechnical) will increase the likely hood
of you being hired, no matter your job or your location.
As to what should you persue as your major... I think you should ask yourself...
"What makes me happy, what do I wake up and want to do everyday, what would
I want to do, nomatter how much I would get paid?" I think that the
questions to those answers would be the REAL job for you. However, some people
decide to choose a job skill that they know they could do for awhile before they
go to their dream job. Then, after a few years of saving money, you might be
able to go to school on the side and try to do your dream job later.
Well, I went into college (4-5 year university) right after high school. I had
scholarships, so I wanted to use them to not waste the free money for my
college. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do then... I knew I wanted to work with
animals, but I knew I couldn't stand blood... so being a vet was out of the
question for now. So, I took some general classes. The 1st year, I looked into
the jobs I was interested in and by my 2nd year, I knew I wanted to do
specifically within the animal field.
I got my degree and I still do not have a job. Sometimes, even with a degree,
you might not be able to get a job. If I want to get a job in my field, I would
have to move. Right now, I am needed at home, so I will wait a while before
leaving my parents. My dad cannot work and was injured in an accident, so I stay
at home to take care of him and the housework... my mom works.
I think that you should really think this out. Find out what you want to do, ask
your parent's opinion. Tell them what you'd like to do and then tell them what
you are willing to do to get that job (even if it means to go learn another
skill to make money to prepare you for your dream job.)
To snowcutie:
I think that its dangerous to try to just marry a rich guy. What if the rich
guys where you live, want strong, independant, hard working career girls? How
will you marry a rich person if they want what you decided to not do? I think
you should try to think about what you might want to do with your life after
school. Even if you just want to go to a general job before you get a real
(better) job.
My parents were pretty flexible. They wanted me to do something that I liked to
do, nomatter what it was. I wish everyone's parents were that supportive of
their children.
I want everyone to know, that I don't claim to know what exactly to tell you, or
what you should do. This is only my personal opinion. I do wish you both, the
best of luck in your future endeavors and I hope that one day you will all be
able to do something that you love.
