On Abortion, and personally, I think that with the wide spectrum of people on these forums-from your normal window licking morons to your people of 130+ IQ-so we should get some good arguments and some stubborn people that won't listen to jack shit. I might be part of the latter, someone stubborn on my stance that abortion is a crime, every time someone wants to have an abortion, they want to kill someone who has commited no crimes against them. I'm sure someone is going to bring out the old "What if someone was raped?" card so I'll be pre-emptive and ask you this: If someone was raped, shouldn't you take it out on the rapist and not the child? What did the child do, did it have a choice in the matter?
Go ahead and give me your views, but you can expect more criticism-constructive and otherwise- on those pro-choice.
whoa u have a lot of big worlds...i dont understand...but aniwaise..i think that abortion is wrong becuz personally i luv kids to death...and its jux wrong to give up sum else life esp. when its not ur but in ur hands....
Since I am a relative young male, I am strictly speaking one of the last people who should wager an opinion on this topic.
In principle, however, I feel that people should have a choice. With that I must add that the choice should be a privelage earned. That is to keep trailer trash from breeding and selling fetuses or babies. I believe that if a case of rape or geniune accident (as lame as that sounds) can be proved, then the mother can be allowed to have an abortion.
I also believe in the death penalty. So put the killing of unborn babies in context.
But its relative easy for me to say this. Abortion is illegal here in South Africa, yet 25% of our population (give or take) has AIDS. More than that lives in poverty. Our demographical differences aren't that praisworthy. Too many kids born in poverty, with AIDS, with parents (with luck) who also have AIDS (or some other short life expectancy). A big percentage of those are the offspring of rapings.
Besides this I wouldn't have an opinion. I know other people can't comprehend the act of killing unborn babies, and I respect that. Usually I wouldn't even openly say that I'm pro-choice. But thats just me. I don't pretend to think that my opinion is important; it lies with the mothers.
Joe-you bring up a good point, but I already talked about the case of rape, and there shouldn't be "geniune accident" if you show self-control but these days people are too idiotic to stop. Now, your situation is different then mine because I'm in the US, but we stil have our share of that stuff. If abortion where made legal, it would probably help, but all in all thats a rare case area, not what I'm used to talking about. I honestly wasn't counting on someone replying not in the US because it seems to be such a big issue here, and I haven't heard of it esle where. You have good morals yet the situation your in has shown you that people are such idiots that abortion seems to be needed as a population control more than anything else, also as mercy for children who would be born with AIDS to parents that have it. Thanks for the good replies so far, and sakaji, sorry for the big words. =D
I'm for pro-choice. I'm not going to bring up an argument abour rape, but what I will say is that yes, babies should have the chance to live and blah blah blah, but that I still don't think that the baby's right should cancel out the mother's. Its her life we're talking about too, not just the baby's.
I decided when I was 16 that the only cases in which I'd ever consider getting an abortion would have to be if rape or incest were involved, if the child would be severely handicapped/malformed (yes, you can have a test done before birth to find out), or if the child would die at an extremely young age, living every day in pain or with great difficultly. I am 25, married, and now trying to start a family of my own and my feelings haven't changed.
Speaking as someone who was involved in an attempted rape, the daughter of a woman that was raped in her teens (she thankfully wasn't pregnant), and the friend of a few girls that have also been raped...I can say that I'd get an abortion without question had the scumbag succeeded in what he was trying to do and had gotten me pregnant. I would have gone to the hospital, had a rape kit done, called the cop, and scheduled an abortion. Yes, I know it's not the child's fault. But I also know that I wouldn't be able to keep the child for fear that all those emotions would be taken out on him or her so adoption would be the next option. However, even in closed adoptions, a child can find their birth parents...It would be incredibly cruel to meet up with the child later in life and answer his questions about his "father." I know I wouldn't be able to handle it, muchless be able to place the burden of knowing that your mother was raped and that's why you came to be on a person.
In the case of an "unplanned" pregnancy, I'm completely against abortion. Adoption or keeping the child should be the only "way out." Regardless of age, if you didn't want a kid, you shouldn't have messed around. Period. If you're old enough to play, then you're old enough to pay.
Well, in my religion, it's a sin to have an abortion even if its a result of rape...
And in my own opinion, I am totally against abortion as well...
It may be hard for a teen but they still have a choice to put it up for adoption...
People should have the choice what to do with their own bodies. I am a male and I do not feel I have ANY right whatsoever to tell a female what she can or cannot do with HER body.
Undecided. I don't know what to say about this subject. Sorry for no opinion/add on to vote.
Sorry to hear that...
I think there is few thing in life, and some of them nearly only
one time...like life...Since someone want to do an abortion,it's
equal to kill your hunman spirite...
Of course it's all based on she/he have the basic mral sence....
I know in Eurpe or west country is very "opened" ...
But if it refer this , I can't manage....
Ethically...... it's not right for either the parent or anybody else to take that life away....... but I wonder if that child doesn't really have a chance of happiness in life...... maybe it's better off being aborted
Okay let me bring the first harsh argument
i hope this is an open minded forum so dont be angry by my rude words!
first yes you are right "shouldn't you take it out on the rapist and not the child? What did the child do" correct but have you ever thought how if the one raped is only a 12 year old and she is pregnant? then what if her family is a poor one and have a hard living.
so you prefer for the girl to live her short life without experience to teach her baby?
Without anyone to help her buying food for the child?
being an out cast of society because she is so young having a child and without a father?
and you prefer the baby to be raised and known to be the child of a rapist?
and do you think the child can life a normal life with a mother who might hate her, maybe the child will be abused by her mother and else etc. etc.
If you ever think this scenario do you still think, abortion is a thing that cannot be done at all?
If you still yes, and think all deserve a life. then think this way, how many egg do you eat today,
do you think the meat that you eat every day comes from plant?
do you thin money grow from tree? and lastly you spit at people that do abortion like that but say this have you ever thought to be in their position? if you found yourself so saint that you can hate everyone who do abortion, then here is the question where were you when the mother of the child being abused or raped? where were you when she have to work her way in life so hard? do you pay for the expense of hospital when she laboring? do you pay for the food of that child? do you do a thing before you blamed them doing abortion?
fiuh and that's the end of my argument.
so i think i pro-choice because not all situation can be handled by giving life to the innocent, but the best thing to do is making a good place for the innocent to live.
I think this says it all. There are other situations that may be acceptable, but that should be the rare exception. The statistics don't lie, most abortions (90+% *AMA) are not rape or incest.
Now for the Pro-choice PPL, Why can I be prosecuted for killing (murder/manslaughter) an unborn baby if it is part of another crime. Lets use the example of a mugging or robery where the mother is assauletd and she looses the baby (showing or not). And assisted suicide for terminally ill patients is illegal. But a woman can legally have an abortion if she chooses and the Dr not only is not prosecuted, but paid for the service. You can't have it both ways.
Note: some people say that young people shouldn't take care of the kid. One word; adoption.

Btw, thx tim, you pointed out something that I forgot to, even I don't know/remember everything like that. Continue the talking on this, it brings out interesting issues/points of view.

Another quick thing while I'm still on the topic, if your pro-choice for a few rare cases, that means you accept the deaths of 100 or more unborn before such a case appears, and I personally think that a) that number isn't big enough and b) thats just too many.
i personally think that:
abortion = crime
taking lives of innocent children
but the fact that, you can't stop them from doing so, because we have our own "freewill"
(even forbidden by laws, still, someone does it...)
even if the government and other parties do some movements or programs, it doesn't actually mean that it could stop abortion.
not all people have their strong CONSCIENCE..
im pro life..
but also pro choice..
(i accept the harsh reality that people kill and someone die innocent and guilty)
