I know it sounds stupid when u consider that i'm a guy. Well, I'm the kind of person who watches a lot of anime both genders watch. However, i don't watch animes like naruto or pointless action or killing, etc.

I'm just curious what kinds of anime or specific title that most people don't expect guys to watch. And yes, i have watched many romance and drama types, more so than action. I'm not trying to be unique, just trying to get info on the common conceptions of anime. So any kind of info will be satisfying. thank you

...Mm. How about Rozen Maiden? XD It's all Gothic Lolita and dolls, so...I dunno. I don't think people would expect guys to watch that.

heh watched that. pretty good too.

Hmmm...I watched Fruits basket and liked it very much, and same with other "girlish" anime...I suppose your society and culture make you decide what to do most of the times, but if you look a little beyond and discover some other things you'll be able to break with em and do what you want :)

It shouldn't really matter too much. If one is a part of a school anime society/club, a guy should be free to watch and discuss any kind of anime.

Still, Anime can be organized into two categories: Shoujo and Shounen. Shoujo anime consists of anime appealing to the female gender, i.e. "Boys over Flowers", "Chobits", "Rozen Maiden", "Fruits Basket", or any other romantic and drama anime. Shounen anime consists of anime appealing to the male gender, i.e. "Dragonball", "Kenshin", "Trigun", "Naruto and Bleach".

Of course, an anime of one gender can appeal to other genders as well. For example, "Ah! Megami-Sama!" can give love-starved men hope, while "Prince of Tennis" and "Gundam Wing" fill the screen with Bishies that women enjoy.

yea i agree that it doesnt really matter what kind of anime guys watch as long as they like it. the only thing that probably wouldnt appeal to guys is shonen ai or magical girl anime cuz even some girls dont watch those but i do hehe. dude u can watch watever u want dont worry bout it ;)

yaoi, those r like the sickest anime ever.

My advice (for what its worth) is watch what you enjoy and take everyone elses opinion with the proverbial large grain of salt. While I may or may not agree with your tastes it doesn't mean you have to conform to mine. If someone makes a snide comment look em right in the eye and say "and your opinion is supposed to mean what to me?" Most people who just follow trends have no way of responding to that.

Well, if you're talking about the uninformed masses, guys aren't supposed to watch anything that doesn't have action in it, especially anything that's primarily a romance.

If you're talking about people who acutally know anime, guys aren't "supposed to" watch any shoujo or josei anime. However, an important distinction to note is that this does not necessarily mean "no romance". After all, one of the most popular subgenres is seinen romance, such as Ah! My Goddess and the whole moe/bishoujo movement--anime that is made especially for guys.

yea, i watch watever type of anime i want. if its some loli type thing, ive most likely have watched that too. but i know that anime is made for dudes to watch (at least in my perspective). so watch what looks good. and if you see a new anime with a buncha school girls on the cover, be sure to pick it up! :P

I've never liked being restricted by the harsh opinions of society, which unfortunately applies to anime. Not that it has ever stopped me. My collection varies, ranging from the shoujo anime "Fruits Basket", to more action-packed "Naruto" and "Dragon Drive", and even the much darker "Elfen Lied" (one of my personal favorites, btw). If something interests me, or if a friend recommends it, then I check it out.

Anything goes. Anime should be seperate of the will of society if it so happens to crash down onto your taste in anime. As for me, I watch anything (with exception to some of the stereotype shows: pokemon, dbz, etc.--though there are some exceptions: bleach, naruto).

Then there's everything from Puni Puni Poemy down to Twelve Kingdoms, up to Tenshi ni Narumon, all the way down to Ghost in the Shell/Rahxephon. If it's japanese, I'll watch it (if I don't eat it first).

theres this super yaoi anime called...LOVELESS...yeah that is something a guy shouldnt really be watching.

Huh?! and who say that a good romance is not for guys?
there is no way i can't live without any moe or loli anime or manga, i like action too but when it come to a anime with a cute little girl i say "IT MOST BE ALL MY!"
don't care what the others say, the long as i watch what i want it don't really matter at all,
right now i'm looking forward to see Kanon,
thats a anime i won't miss,
i'm too looking forward to watch Deus Machina Demonbane (or Kishin Houkou Demonbane),
that is pure action mecha (and fanservice too)
so i say,
to hell with all those idiots who dare to say that i'm weird for watching that kind of anime.

i don't bother whether its a shoujo or shounen, if i like it, i would watch it. rozen maiden? its a great anime... another great anime would be mahoraba....

If it's good juz watch it. To each his own. U shouldn't care so much bout what others think. Unless it's hentai, in which case u should probably keep that from your parents...

IMO, guys can practicully watch any anime they want. as somebody already said, can't see a guy watching yaoi..also..i dunno if guys wanna watch stuff like Sailor Moon..

Watch AIR. It's a very good anime if are deep emotions what are you looking for:)

mmmmm....I guess you don't know anything about loveless, do you?;)

Anyway, Loveless isn't a yaoi anime. It's just an anime with things that you normally don't expect to watch in an anime. A very original story. Watch it without asking anything about the plot before you'll see it with your own eyes.

Ai no Kusabi it's a yaoi anime. Not Loveless.
Maybe Loveless can be also listed as shounen ai manga, but just not a yaoi one.

I think everybody has got the point. It doesn't matter what is the type of the anime you watch. The point is you are having fun watchin or reading. My cousin reads the mangas I bought. And the lastest ones were Fruits Basket and MeruPuri. I never expected he was get interested in MeruPuri. But, you know what, he looked at me and said " Why not ? Don't you like the manga ? Isn't it good ? " .
I guess that all that really matter.

Heh, I know how you feel! I mean I do enjoy anime like bleach, mai-hime and inuyasha. But, I also enjoyed fruits basket, azumanga daioh (laugh all you want! It was funny!) and the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya. In the back of my head, there's always a voice saying "What the hell are you doing!? Be a man and watch some REAL anime! But, in the end, I enjoy it, so I'm happy anyway. So, in my oppinion, as long as you enjoy it, who really gives a crap!? Though it does bother me sometimes...

lke most of the posters replied, if you're a guy, you can watch ANY kinds EXCEPT the yaoi themed anime

Actually, there is nothing wrong with guys watching yaoi/BL. Just look at "Brokeback Mountain".

(these are my personal values. My answer to the actual question is posted above)

Personally,i think that animes like "Sailor moon" or "Maria sama ga miteru" are made for girls that's why they're called shoujou anime but it's not "forbidden" for guys to watch them (there some guys who watch shoujou anime to know better the girls ;) ) Otherwise guys who watch yaoi animes like "Kisuna" that's really disgusting x(
because those kinds of animes are made for a very special kind of people who are the opposite of the "boy beeing"
And the action animes (Bleach,Naruto,Black cat...) and Comedy animes (School Rumble,Love hina,Itsudatte my santa) are frequently watched by guys because every boy wanna be a strong hero who is loved by hundreds of the most beautiful girls (that is what is going on in the most shonen animes :) )

i wouldn't care what to watch it just depend on my intrest what i like and i just watch what i want to watch. if it is too girly probably just don't tell anyone
