Is X CRAP?

This is an anime that with a devastatingly attractive cover, but a worthless story within...
Here are MY reasons why X is crap...

PLOT? WHAT PLOT?-- this anime talks about a young man who had to choose between two destinies. everyone was making big fuss about him, since apparently, he was the "most important person in the world". so he chooses one destiny and starts a war with his bestfriend, whom he swore to save. in the middle of the war, this "savior" does nothing but break down, and watch his friends die one by one. and in the end, he dumps his responsibilities to his enemy and falls dead himself.
thats as far as i got with the storyline. either its as stupid as i described it, or its simply to vague to be completely understood by the veiwers.
this anime also attempted to broach the questions of, should humans be given a chance to fix the world it has destroyed? why is it wrong to kill humans? indeed interesting subjects for philisophical debate. i waited paitently till the last episode for these question to be resolved, or at least sufficiently explored, but alas, i found no such resolution nor exploration.

OVERKILL-- X has combined ALL types, forms and kinds of love you can see in anime-- "big brother/little sister" and vice versa, "ninja/hime", "chidhood sweetheart", "young-girl/old-guy" (lolitacon?!), "lonely prince/cheery fiesty chick", "pet/master", "married-man/courtesan", and the sublte yet strongly implied, "yaoi".
while this mixture can be seen by some as a great feat, i beleive that this is an overkill. the anime was filled with enough tragic tears and protestations of undying love tom make me celibate. as i watched, it was like, enough with the drama already,a nd get on with the story!

DEAD END-- not only did this mixture divide the plot into so many directions, almost all of these directions led to a dead end, i.e. tragedy. these cheesy love stories ended with the death of one or both of the partners. what happens is that fans avidly watch the development of each love story, their anticipation heightened with each scene, only to see the greatest love story in the world end in someone's tearful death.

NOTHIN BUT BISHOUNEN-- i beleive that the ULTIMATE purpose of this anime is not so much to give a decent storyline, but to parade bishounen-type characters in front of us bishounen-loving fans. nothing more.
the story opens with a tragic story of an impossibly handsome dreamseer... this type of opening is sure to get the attention of female anime fans...but as the story progress, all you find are more bishounenes and no decent overall story whatsoever.
as a bishounen-fan, i myself enjoyed drooling over kamui and the rest. but sadly, they were not enough to sustain my interest, nor to cover up the crappiness of the story.

to sum up, X is an anime that is only interesting at the beginning. its ending is a definite failure. its vague plot leads you through too many twists, bangs your head through dead ends, and finally plummets you to an awful anticlimax, leaving you with a nasty aftertaste of confusion and the feeling that NOTHING WAS RESOLVED. all it could boast was the array fo beautifully created characters whose potentials , unfortunately, were not utilized.
what a waste.

DISCLAIMER: this is MY opinion, written to analyze the failurs of X. beleive me, i wish it wasn't so. so if you have reasons why x is NOT crap, please tell me. i dare anyone to prove me wrong.

I thought X was great (both the OVA and the series). Another fine work by CLAMP. I don't watch anime trying to get too much out of it. Overuse of thematic elements and sterotypes is something that you just can't get away from when watching anime. I found it to be both interesting and enjoyable.

Well, X takes a bit of time to pick up the pace, and until you read volume 6 or 7 seems a bit pointless.
Of course, if you are talking about the anime, it's a different matter. The anime was quite average and doesn't lives up at all to the manga; that's way better than the anime was.
The plot was different, the character development was different too; and the manga isn't finished yet, and I doubt it will be the same it was on the anime.

And about bishonen, there were a lot of pretty ladies too.

If you feel like giving it another change, read the manga.

Lolz.. Another case where the anime fails to effectively capture the essence of the manga.
Or maybe it is just a matter of opinion. I 've been having doubts as to continuing this series because of varying opinions, but I would like to hear others' opinions first (and as far as I can see, only a few X supporters seem to have seen this thread, else they would've bashed it to bits >_<). Being the ever careful person, the basis of one is not quite enough to convince me that it is so. And besides, the author DARED the fans to prove the flaws wrong. Meanwhile, I'll just wait to see if they would really step up :)

p.s. go mamee ;)

sino naman kaya ang nagsulat ng post na ito? if i were a comm2 teacher i'd give a 5.00... wakekeke...

if the manga is better than the anime, i guess i'd give it a go...
thank you for reading this post! ^_^

... frankly... the thing bout X is... the animation is good... fluid and fast-paced... but the story is dragging and very unoriginal... sure the characters are given their fair share of air time... but it just pulls the anime further and further away form the plot as each episode delves into the personal events that take place in the lives of the characters..... and the way they have to ponder over everyhting sucks... a complete waste of time....so basically I agree with your saying that X is CRAP...

my sentiments exactly, pandemonium4146.... @_@

I thoight X was quite fabulous - I haven't read the manga but have seen the series. To me the story was okay, but everything came second to the characters. Ignoring all cliches in terms of plot with characters, each character as an individual is what really makes the anime good to me.

HOWEVER there is a huge difference between the X series and the X movie. The movie was made before the series, and it basically seemed like they tried to fit in all the series within an hour and whatever time-frame. Not to mention the end of the movie is entirely different from how the series ends... so if people see the mvie and dislike it, I don't think it's a good idea to judge the series badly by default as well.

so u do like the series? hmm... interesting...

... yeah... it is interesting... I found X dragging actually... have I said that?

Yeah I must say that X was rather disappointing
Didn't...... really make too much sense and the whole anime just showed what happened in the past.......

But X seemed rather different than the other CLAMP series..... more serious and...... not about boy girl love x_x
X was..... more towards friendship......

Yeah all kinda weird characters I must say

Bishounen?........ I thought the only good looking guy there was the Sakura something guy...... Sakura....... what was his name?
Those kinda male characters are everywhere ~_~
Like Kamui and........ the dream seeing guy (forgot his name)

Yeah must agree that the ending was a bit disappointing than I thought it would be.......
Almost everybody died x_x

actually not only the ending is disappointing... everything except the animation was...
X does have that serious feel... which is different from most of CLAMP's creations...

a few face faults here and there would've been nice... I was actually hoping for at least one episode to have a fun scene for the characters... even if it were only a few seconds..

to show that a certain series is serious doesn't necessarily need the characters to be brooding and almost expressionless...

and the girl there.. the one who was a potential dreamseer... I loathed her... particularly because of her too 'girlish' attitude... if she was more like Nekoi, I could've liked her even for a bit... but really... she was just too damn annoying...

and another thing... does it really have to have such tragic episodes? ... considering how many characters are in the anime'... they always seem to have some sort of tragedies to tell... given that they're the so calle 'saviors' of the world doesn't mean that they have to have such sad lives does it...?
especially Kamui... I thought he was an egotistical bastard who was so inconsiderate to not agree to save the world...

I actually quite enjoyed X. Maybe it's because I like dark and tragic endings... ^_^' Though, I prefer the manga over the anime (so far)... I think the manga does a better job with character development and background history, but I wish that CLAMP would hurry up and finish it! I want to see if the ending will follow the anime ending or the movie ending. (OR perhaps a whole new ending...?) And for the large amount of bishies? I have no qualms about that... but there were also a fair share of beautiful women too (Arashi and Karen), though I'll admit they were outnumbered by men.

X is one of my favourite mangas. Everyone has their own taste. I understand your reasons for hating it but those reasons are also why I love X so much. I'm taking about the manga (hate the anime very much. I hate the movie even more). I actually think the plot/storyline is great. It's unique in it's Clamp way. I can't think of any other manga that can pull it off with that plot. What's wrong with combining all types of love? I really don't see why that's a problem. X is supposed to be tragic, it's no wonder people get killed off and has very twisted love story (one of the thing I love about X). And the bishounen? There's plenty of beautiful women and cute girls in X too.

Well, that's my opinion. I just feel it's very unfair for you to talk about X that way.

Quote by fireflywishesI think the manga does a better job with character development and background history, but I wish that CLAMP would hurry up and finish it!

I heard that they cancelled the manga after someone suicided after reading it....... but I also heard a rumor that they might be restarting it

x is great though i havent watched the anime but i have heard that the anime isnt as good as the book and the book explains more than the anime i suggest reading the books maybe than questions will be answered and you might think its a great story

...hmmm... yes... you DO have a point... maybe the manga is a lot better than the anime'... but it's hard to find that title nowadays... well at least where I'm from.... but anyway... the anime' is CRAPPY... so CRAPPY and BORING that it would put you to sleep in a matter of seconds... but that's my opinon... of course you are free to share your own insights... after all this IS a forum....

alas, i still haven't read d manga....can't find ity yet (any1 nu can help me out here wud be welcome <nee, mamee?>).... so i can't really judge it...

so to be clear, my post is written for the SERIES which, im afraid is still crappy. ^_^

i suppose each one of us has our own reasons for liking (?) and hating (in my case) X.

but i just hav to say that the series attempted a love-tragedy-no-comic-whatsoever anime... and did NOT pull it off.

but agen, thats just me. :p

... well... I STILL agree with you.... after watching X for the second time it is indubitably as CRAPPY AS EVER... I mean... what? Kamui just DIES? god... and about that wish thing.... it's sooo getting old... what happened to Kanoe? To Satsuki? a lot of unanswered questions here...

THANK YOU...
it bums me out that the good animation was wasted...
and kamui...for a savior, he didn't do much saving at all....

yeah... he started out unbelievably strong and ended up soooooo weak...

I just heard a rumor that the series is finished, but CLAMP is trying to find a publisher for it... (Guess the terrorism aspect is a little controversial right now...) I also heard that the ending is different from both the anime AND the movie... I hope they find a publisher soon!

well, i hope the story and the ending is has improved a bit...

... yeah... I hope it makes up for the anime'...
