Reputation Points better then Levels?

You know i was thinking that levesl are un-adequate ... yes they are showing the activitiy of the member/user but many new people are posting or are active only becouse of them. Are they thinking that they will earn a kind of respect by getting the level? I`am suggesting that a reputation bar under the level bar would be cool. People level 10 or above could have an option to anonymously give reputation points to other members once a week ( so the option could not be abused ). Maybe i`am wrong but i find this option nice. How about it?

Eh... not really. The levels aren't really to see how active people are, it's the cap the leechers from the gallery, really. There's no reputation behind the levels, if anything we already HAVE a rep-type thing with the whole Admin, Mod, Elite Member, Member. Those are pretty much people's rep's on the site, but other than that, I think the levels are doing their job: To stop the leechers for a little bit of time and force them to participate.

welll... they eventually WILL gain that 'a kind of respect'...lol.... who wouldn't give respect if a person is at lv 100+, even though the person's spamming the whole forum all night and day to get to that lv... ?!? ^_^'
"oh wow... you're lv.100... congrats..." ,.. and all that...
I prefer thay make lots of contributions (helping other members, make submissions, including greeting the n00bs at the entrance lounge :D ) rto MT rather than gaining lv merely by posting...

I totally agree with your idea... but it's up to sheq to decide that... :D

Wise, and very nice concept. Congrats to you KoganoS.

I totally agree with the fact that levels push newbie to post som kinda crappy wallpaper, sometimes it really help for their own improvment sometime its only for leveling like if this was diablo, but I dont really like the Idea, I tend to be talk frankly about every post I see in here, as for those I love as those i dont reallly like. So...

But maybe i didnt get the exact concept, but i do believe something must be done about the levelling to keep crap work or rip beeing posted for leveling

I think levels are a good idea, but by using them you are liable to get alot of "Crap" just for people to get those levels. it doesnt truely show who are the dedicated people. a concept of Virtue points is good it and should be rewarded to people who 1 help others out, post constructive posts, 3 post good quality scans and wallpapers and such, and just people who make this feel like a community.

in my opinion i'm against with the levels. First a web page has to let others take pictures, and not to show them and don't let take them! It's like "You would like to take this picture isn't? but you won't take it! hahaha" ...for me that sadic

I dont see whas wrong with levels in the aspect that it makes newbs post (such as me..but i would have posted even without them XD) Would if someone posted a bad quality wallpaper to improve their skill? would that be so bad? it seems like its really strict around here when it comes to Artwork, which as you know, not everyone can be an expert all at once. There should be a section for beginners or somehing in the gallery if it is a problem. Just a thought.

Thats an amazing Idead Purplefire, I really like it, wouldnt mind helping every those who really want to improve. So on, levels really could be left the way they are.

I like that the levels keep people from leeching, but the levels creates nothing much more than a popularity contest. As I've said before, there are lots of people on here that are low level, but are great. For example, there may be someone that doesnt post too much, but when they do, the post is fantastic. Other people may do great wallpapers, but since they arent well known, no one notices.

That would be great BUT since there are so many members and new members, they might get overlooked and some 10+ members might not all take part. Thus, many people will be stuck at a lower point count.

wouldn't reputation point be just as hypocritical and delusive as leveling system? a person could have around 200 people on their friendlist who would be willing to give them those reputation points in token of friendship, when that member really hasn't done that much of a noteworty action. in the least, leveling system shows that you've atleast:
1. submitted scans/wallpapers
2. participated in the forum
3. interacted with other users via commenting.

i dont really see why the level system is such a big issue for everyone here. we all receive the same amount of previlages upon reaching level 10. level 10 also only requires maybe 100-200 post at the forum at maximum, so it should really take a person around 3 days to reach it if they deicided to post 10-20 posts a day.

Well IMHO level should be replaced by popurality points - this would indicate how much effort has been made by particular member... level has got nothing to do with quality of a person - one can only post on forum and such gain high level while other would only upload scans/wallpapers...

and one more thing - this is ridiculous that i still can't download scans - this site is for registered users, so why do I have to stuggle to post and post since I don't have pro program sfor graphics design and free time...

How can I do to go up of the levels?pls anybody can help me???thanks in advance
Carol...

I agree with sammo
yah the level thingy is really annoying, hell I hate it at some point.
but the point of that thing is to prevent leeching. How can rep-type thingy can help prevent leeching?
at least like sammo said, with the level, we will know that that user have actually been a member of MT rather then just come here, chat a while, leech heck alotta stuff then left like it was nothing.

plus... the participation level is one thing, but what exactly is 'artistic level'??

please don't, pretty please? *makes puppy eyes*. Better spend time coding more useful things. :)

Why someone should care what level a user on minitokyo is? As far as I know minitokyo don't have popularity contest, it's silly.

I agree with sammo, user level is just a number it doesn't mean anything and it doesn't worth the fuss. Popularity contests are very hypocritical, ego stroking and unfriendly. Ok, so a one person will have popularity of 100 and the other of 1, who cares?

It kind of reminds me of kindergarten ^^;

The leveling system is fine. As a matter of fact some leechers might go through the trouble of doing the posts just to reach the low level 10 to leech more. If anything levels could be raised higher to deter that kind of action, but then more people would probably complain.
