i am doing an assignment and i choose the subject "Dubbing" and
"What people think about it?". so i just wanted to know, what the
people on minitokyo think about dubbing?
Well, that's a smart way to inquire answers! Anyways,
it depends who's dubbing it and how much the seyuu is talented and expert in
his/her job. In most cases I do not like the dub version. The original is always
the best. However, I confess sometimes the seyuus' are just very good in what
they doing. There are several cases that I found no awkwardness in voices or the
atmosphere, that was result of dubbing, such as Howl's Moving Castle, Princess
Mononoke, And Laputa. The dub was very well done.
I'll pass most times the dubbing is horrible Ie Evangelion *shudders* There have
been a few anime series that I liked the dubbing too. Generally though I won't
watch something that is dubbed. I just think most of the time they just pick the
wrong people to do these voices. That or the english pronunciations sound just
horrible. In essence they butcher words by over pronouncing them when they don't
need to.

Naruto is one! One Piece is another! They be messin stuff up...
I though Neon Genesis was okay....They kinda messed up One Piece though....
For the most part i don't like dubbing. It can make or break an anime if you see
the dubbed version first (English Version One Piece should be burned!)
The biggest problem i have with dubbing is that they use the wrong voices all
the time, and the voice actors will mispronounce words or names that are kept
from the Japanese Version.
Depends on which company does the hiring for the dubbing (Curse you, 4kids!).
Dubbing can be ok, (like, Bleach is alright, as was InuYasha).
Though personally, I prefer the original versions. Voices just seem more natural
in Japanese than in English for anime. And then there are puns and jokes that
just make more sense in Japanese...
Of course, you get REALLY horrible dubs like One Piece *dies* That was horrible,
that was. My family was like, "Why are you watching cartoons?" I
couldn't watch it and it made me really hate dubbing.

Dubbing is really good depen ding on who's doing
them, I believe. Like One Piece's dubbing sucks
horribly. But Zatch Bell doesn't!
As a matter of fact, the engling voice actors of
Parco and Zatch received best male voice comedy &
best female voice comedy at the 1st Annual American
Anime Awards! *saw it mysef, yeah!*
DNAngel, DBZ, FFVII: Advent Children, & Kingdom Hearts
are great example of this, yeah?!
Everyone has to admit, the subtitles aren't the best
because
1) sometimes it gets in the way of the picture.
2) there's almost always serious mistakes in grammar causing you not to
understand anything.
3) You're too busy trying to read the subtitles before the next set comes
instead of focusing on the overall quality of the anime.
I like subtitles, but depending on what anime, I'd choose dubbed. Adult Swim
does a great job in my opinion of dubbing, yeah?!
Most english dubbings happen to really suck D= But then again, it really depends
on the voice actors themselves. Out of the anime that I've watched, however, I
would say that the original Japanese versions are still better.
Dubbing let me see well i think it sucks and it stupid ! Amercans always have to
be different they can not just leave a good thing good! Fucking Annoying!
I like Dubbed versions and subtitled versions it really all depends on the
effort put in by the English voice actors personally considering English and
japanese forms of speech are different i think alot of the voice actors do well
considering they have to adapt the script to match English speech. it really all
comes down to 3 factors the Company that adapts the story(4kids for example
which sucks BTW) the voice actors and actress effort. and the viewer. look at it
this way if your american and have to get anime fix on tv you have no real
choice in the matter. but i won't lie to you not all Dubbing is good but you
have to admit a huge percent of it is done pretty well.

with Naruto and One Piece dubbing. It really sucks... The Lip motion and the
Voices doesn't really match (well at least you've got to try to dub correctly
right?).

I prefer a good dub over subs, and I generally find most dubs to be decent, if
nothing else. I generally don't mind the change of tone in voices. (The first
and foremost among examples would be Yuki from Fruit Basket. In my opinion, that
show has one of the best dubs I have ever heard, but I also seem to remember a
lot of people going apeshit over Yuki's voice because he didn't sound like a
girl anymore.)
Of course, bad dubs are... well, bad, and they're definitely out there. Love
Hina's dub was mediocre at best, and the Crest/Banner of the stars dub was so
dry and stilted that you could hang your laundry on it and get it ready in ten
minutes. I can't say I've had the honor of sampling the One Piece dub yet (I
almost want to), but I HAVE experienced the "Macross - Clash of the
Bionoids" dub, which is so bad, it's hilarious. Classic!
It really does depend on the dub. Some of them are just piss poor or worse.
Others are spot on with some alterations to make the dialog more sensible to
other cultures but without losing too much of the original intent. Personally I
find that watching older dubs with subtitles to be freakin hilarious because the
subtitles are pretty close to literally translated while the dub is so far off
its funny.
I will say I did enjoy some of the sub only shows because they were a little
more true to the Japanese culture and once I understood some of the jokes they
were making it became easier to see where those were altered in other shows to
fit more into the English speaking cultures

I hate dubbing. It sounds...retarded...jus tso senseless. I like it in Japanese much better...or in the original language...

as long as the dubbing is good, i don't mind it. there some anime i think is better in english then japanese, but i mostly prefer the original version
Never liked dubbing, I've never liked it because it just never sounds quite right, especially when you hear the original voice actors.
personally, i don't like dubbing that much. it like taking away the originality of the actual voice.it's better in subbing than dubbing
