Music & Movies

Techno, dance, electronica, darkwave, industrial, synthpop, trance, jungle, tribal, acid.

Whatever you want to call it. Electronic music is amazing.

I love techno. Do you? Have you ever heard of techno? It's not just made up of house music spun by DJs in clubs, it's made up of actual groups and artists with stories to tell and lyrics to share just like any other genre. From A2 to Zombie Nation (and all the better ones in between), electronic groups have been hidden from the mainstream like undiscovered treasure.

I recently found a gem of a song called Forever that was written by Bruderschaft with music being done by Icon of Coil, loops by Covenant, lead vocals by VNV Nation and backup vocals by Apoptygma Berzerk. The song was written as tribute the creator of Bruderschaft's father, who died of cancer at 57. These super groups were brought together to produce an epic album with remixes for every techno-taste. All net profits from the album have been donated to cancer research.

I encourage all of you who are even slightly interested to find and listen. This is truly a beautiful song.

Are you nodding your head or scratching it? Let me know. I'm sure I can find something in my electronica collection that you will like. :) Rock? Rap? Punk? Funk? Instrumental or classical? I've got a techno version of that.

Like country? You're SOL son.

Some techno is pretty cool but other is pretty bad. I always liked combinations of traditional and electronic instruments to produce music (it seems to be the logical extension for the evolution of music) rather than justt using electronics or just traditional instruments (a good example would be Metallica's S&M album and Trans-Siberian Orchestra).
However tachno does make good dance music due to its driving beat.

I think Metallica's S&M concert was one of the greatest ideas ever. Trans-Siberian Orc also has some pretty good tunes. Apocalyptica is a Finish? (i think) band made up of three guys playing electriic cellos. They actually kick a LOT of ass. They happened to have covered a lot of Metallica's better songs and have some very good instrumental ones written themselves. They also feature vocalists sometimes which usually works out great. I think you would like them. :)

Assemblage 23 (which is my favorite tech artist) has a pretty good piano based track called King of Insects.

Theatre of Tragedy would probably also be right up your alley. Although they can be a little too goth sometimes. XD

Ochimusha: That sounds more like rock/metal groups. Metallica does definitely not play techno.

I like techno a whole lot -- with artists/groups like Shpongle, Eat Static, Koxbox, Hexstatic and Speedy J (among many others.) CD compilations with "Goa" somewhere in the CD title also tends to rarely if ever disappoint. I tend to lean towards psychedelic trance or chill out. As long as I get really atmospheric stuff, I'm pretty much satisfied.

That's some trippy stuff you listen too Northy. =P

I had never heard of any of those artists before but i did some research on em. If you've never heard Ratatat i suggest you look them up. They use guitar in their work but are instrumental and very chill/trippy. I liked the sound of Koxbox but most of the stuff I listen to is more vocal (i like to sing along).

I really liked what i heard from Speedy J. Kind of reminded me of a more subdued expressional version of Terrorfakt, which is a hardcore industrial group that i like. I like a lot of the tracks from Loudboxer and am seriously considering picking that album up. Thanks for the tip! =D

P.S. I know some of those groups listed above aren't considered electronic. They are just groups i know of that Mnemeth might like.

I like chillout too. In fact, you might say that I like music that presents a certain atmosphere -- well, all music does, really -- in my case solid grooves with completely artificial sounds or easy listening with lots of piano, guitars, flutes and a large helping of ambience.

So.... chillout groups/artists that I like: Nightmares on Wax/DJ E.A.S.E., London Funk Allstars, Bent, Dusted, AIR, Zero 7, Sven Van Hees and the Back to Mine albums.

heck yeah! i love techno music (especially trance, house, and chill out). but that does not mean i like everything. there are good ones and bad ones. it's just up to you to choose what you like.

OMG! A THREAD FOR TECHNO MUSIC! Join the club! I absolutely LOVE techno. I dont know if the stuff in Abercrombie and Fitch is classified as techno, but they're remixes and I love them! Dance Nation is sweet stuff (is that techno?) haha I dont really know what I'm talking about I guess.

merged: 08-16-2007 ~ 10:13am
trance is sweet too. Hmm...Delerium? <3 that group. i think they have some trance dont they?

Ahh my favourite genre of music. Any song with bangin' electronic beats gets me going!
Chemical Brothers, Simian Mobile Disco, The Knife, Goldfrapp among some of my favourite groups.

one day i went to the mall of america with a friend.

we store hopped from abercrombie, hollister, express men etc. just dancing the day away...

true story.

yea starrliteangel, delerium is pretty good. essentially anyting dj tiesto touches is good (he has done a couple good remixes of their songs).

Paul Oakenfold has a similar style to Delerium in that he features female singers for a lot of his songs. DHT is another group you might like/have heard of.

yea demondays, chemical bros kick ass. if you like them you might like basement jaxx, you've probably heard a couple of their songs but dont know it. :) you could then go as far as say you would LOVE Daft Punk. they are the super group of super groups.

EDIT: almost forgot about Justice! electrofunk ftw!

Daft Punk's music is kinda up and down, but they scored some MAJOR brownie points when Interstella 5555 came out on DVD. For anime fans and techno fans, that's one major assault on the senses.

Also, for you YouTube users out there, I recommend to do a search on Hexstatic, and watch the following videos: Bass Invader, Vector and Ninja Tune. The two first ones are basically techno tunes made up from sounds from old arcade games -- REALLY old ones -- and the latter from various Godfrey Ho ninja movies set to bass 'n drums.

Other pretty damn cool videos to be found on either Youtube or GoogleVideo:

Shirley Bassey and the Away Team - Where do I begin.
Alex Gopher - The child.
Nightmares on Wax - Les Nuits.
Bentley Rhythm Ace - Theme From Gutbuster.
Mr. Scruff - Honeydew.
Future Sound of London - Cascade.
Massive Attack - Protection.
Future Sound of London - My kingdom.
Chicane - Saltwater.
Orbital - The Box.
Moby - Natural Blues (Cartoon version).
Etienne de Crécy - Am I wrong.
Etienne de Crécy - Scratched.
Banco De Gaia - Last train to Lhasa.
Dusted - Always remember to respect your mother.
Deep Forest - Sweet Lullaby.
The Avalanches - Since I left you.
Groove Armada - At the river.
Björk - Hyperballad.
The Beloved - Sun rising.
Zero 7 - I have seen.
Zero 7 - Futures.
Deep Forest - Deep Forest.

the only techno band I know is Ladytron. o.0
But I like listening to techno still.

allright yah for techno! the alternative to rap in dance clubs. some cool artists
Motorcycle
Narcotic Thrust
Deepest Blue
Arman Van Buren
DJ Tiesto
George Lamond

I like Schwarz Stein if that counts.
I generally don't like it cause its boring to me, and sounds like what they would play in gay bars.
No offense just being honest.

I like it but sometimes it gets really boring. The same sequence of rhythm/music would play over and over...

Some Techno I really like, others I hate.

Paul Oakenfold is my man.

I like techno music. Some of my favorite artists are Afrika Bambaata, Daft Punk, Fluke, Kraftwerk, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Leftfield, Orbital and Prodigy. Daft Punk's 'Interstela 5555: The 5tory of 5ecret 5tar 5ystem' is one of my favorite techno video clips/movies. I don't know Bruderschaft. Thanks for your recommendation.

techno is awesome. i like electronic music in general. techno, trance, house, dance, industrial, and the list goes on.

I've heard some Techno that is just amazing.

Well, I'm a raver...the kind of raver that got into raving because of the music, not the other way around. I like trance/progressive, Goa/psy, happy hardcore, and ambient/chillout in general. Favorite artist: Above and Beyond. Song of the moment: Paul van Dyk - Nothing but You.

i like some techno :D
