as the thread suggests, have you ever encountered an anime where they have
dubbed in english and then later redubbed in english?
i did some what about a while ago, in australia on foxtel they had the sci fi
channel and it had the anime series samurai x (aka rurouni kenshin) which i
found they redubbed it. i have watched the english dub (original) when i was
young and i thought i was really good, due to the fact i didn't care about jap
or eng, then when i heard it was on cable i watched and went WTF! they did such
a bad job compared to the original dub. they changed the names, changed the
voices and ruin the feel. my friends didn't believe me until i borrowed a dvd
and showed them that they did get redubbed and they like the original better.
No, can't say I have. In any case, I prefer subs to dubs. Yes, you could
consider me (to a point, mind you), one of those "OMG!11!1 The dub of
<insert anime here> sucks compared to the subs! They shouldn't dub anime
at ALL!11!"

though you say they shouldn't dub anime at all, the japanese do technically dub
as well because all anime is an animated and dub of the manga. so i don't know
its just me but i feel bad when people say such things. i know americans suck
but they do the best they can and some end up really good, well i think so...
eg. fruits basket, dragon ball z (well i prefer the english), oh my goddess OVA
and my list goes on...
well my point is that people will get disappointed (i know i do) , i agree they
don't do some anime justice. but its not the people who voice them blame casting
director, plus if you feel that someone should should of been casted instead,
give us a shout.
i don't like dubs but in some cases, when i watch the dubs first instead of
subs, i get attach to it.. For example, i first watch cardcaptor sakura in my
national language on tv, then when i watch the sub, i feel weird.. in the end,
for ccs, i prefer dubs.. but overall, i like subs more than dubs..
but redub ? never encounter it in my country..
This was the exact same case I had with Digimon season 1! At first they sound
like your average american teenagers but when I bought the VCD, they got people
with frogs stuck in their throats for the re-dub!

But now I'm not into the Digimon craze anymore so its fine. I've not encountered
any other re-dubbing.
I know that Spain and South America each dub their own anime regardless of the
fact that they both do so in Spanish. Shin Shan in Spain is hillarious, the
South American one is not as funny or as well done. My Neighbor Totoro was
dubbed by fox about 10 years ago and was recently redubbed in English by Disney
(much better quality). I think if you hear two dub versions of an anime this may
be the result of expired licensing rights for the first company, therefore the
second company will redub the series using their voice actors. For example...One
piece has been dubbed by odex, fox 4kids, and funimation.

I hate re-dubbing because some speeches
are not accurate. I much prefer it on subtitles.
