What is more important when choosing a job? Money or having fun?

I've heard that money is more important, because if you earn lots of money, it doesn't matter whether or not you're having fun now. you can just get an early retirement and relax yourself. It's like the saying, "It's better to taste the bitter before you taste the sweet."

I've also heard that having fun is more important, because if you enjoy your work, you could care less about retirement. your work is fun!

I would like to know where people stand, because i'm about to choose a major and stuff and i couldn't decide from three choices... but it's essentially the same thing: money first fun later? or some money, but some fun throughout.

If I had to choose, I'd go for the second option, I think it's better to do work u like which maybe not makes the best money but is at least enjoyable, instead of going to work everyday wishing it was 5 o'clock so u can go home again, and making good money with it.

I just quit my job, cuz I didn't like it Everyday I wished it would be weekend soon, so I'd be free. Because I hated my work, I didn't last long, not even a full year, haha And look where I am now, back to the place I never thought to see again: school

So it's better to practicize work ur enjoying, since the biggest part of ur life will probably exist out of working anyway. Better make the best out of it, and doing a job u like and having fun with it is more important than having a lot of money.
But that's just my opinion on the matter

I can't speak for anyone else but to me what's the point in having a job that pays well if you hate it. Your probably not going to stay on long enough to take full advantage of the extra money.

I just feel it's better doing what you like and a lower cost. Unless life gets hectic or you get fired, you'd probably work that job for awhile.

In the end money is nice to have, it'll let you live a comfortable life. However you have to ask yourself does surrounding myself with physical posessions or even money itself make me truly happy. Money isn't everything after all.

I gota go with money on this one. I can have fun outside of work if I cant have fun at work.

I personally would prefer to do work i enjoy.

However, one of my few life goals is to build my dream 3-story house with an indoor pool and 4-car garage.

I've done both and I'd say do what you love. Money means nothing if you hate getting up in the morning. And life is way to short to waste it in hopes you will retire and then have fun. What if you are hit by a car long before you retire? Or get some sort of horrid illness. Enjoy every moment you can budget well and find a way to make money doing what you love.

I'd go for a balance between money and fun. I certainly won't do a fun job with very low pay though. But if I went for money, I'd see if it's worth the boring effort for the pay. I think I still lend more towards fun though. A job usually takes up quite a lot of time during a day, which will leave you little time for your own fun. Might as well have fun all day with the fun job.

I go with the second option: Fun.
I am a person who has to have passion and interest to do a job or a work, otherwise there's no way I can stand it. I'll begin to wish for its' end from the beginning! But as Spystreak said, if I'm in need of money I'll bear with the pressur of working on something that I don't like just to survive the situation; once I'm done, I'll be gone for good of others, and myself. I agree with Spystreak in most parts.

Wealth. Because with money, one can buy power and positions otherwise inaccessible to the lower classes. Also, wealth comes in handy when you need to purchase information detrimental to your well being or the downfall of another.

Simply put, a wealthy person will always have power in this world. After all, to acquire wealth, one must also have some kind of brain as to how to use it.

Of cos if u can earn lot of money and hav fun at the same time, its good. But often fun and work dont come together. To me, i chose to earn as much money as possible even if i m not having fun, cos i believe once i have more than enough money, i can do what i want later.

I voted for fun. Both in extreme cases, and not so extreme cases.

Extreme case: Working for minimum wage with friends OR doing something like working the electric chair for $200,000/year (I don't really know how much they make lol). I wouldn't be able to kill anybody let alone do it for 8 hours a day =(

Not so extreme case: Working with video games(this is actually what I'm getting into) for ~$40,000 to start, OR doing something boring like accounting for ~$45,000.

In either case, fun wins it by a mile =) I wouldn't be able to do something for 8hrs a day, 5 days a week if I hated it.

I choose fun. It won't be worthwhile if you're not enjoying yourself. Money will come later. If you're having fun with what you're doing, you're gonna be very good at it. That will increase your market value and thus, money comes in

both preferably. A well paying job that you enjoy would be the best.
If I had to choose one or the other I would choose the fun job (provided I could live off that amount of money) because after all if all you are doing is working to make money you are wasting alot of your life.

Emm perhaps both^^ cuz' I think my job should be fun so i have the energy to work there a long time^^ But I want a good job where i can get much money^^

Yup, just like Rata said.. Money + Fun Job is better than having to choose just the one.

I would say that getting a well-paying job is more important as long as you spend the money wisely. Some people (*famous people*) make so much money and spend it on junk they dont need. Just one pair of their shoes would feed an entire african village for a month.
As long as I make enough money to live comfortably with my family I'll be happy, no matter what kind of job Im working. It's always nice to enjoy your work, but the point of working in the first place is to make money.
