Just have a feeling anime is starting to die out. How do you guys feel about it?

no way when i was 9. i went on a site for all the animes and there rank and here are way more now. Plus if animes dies what happens to the dvds. there will be like worthless and that will never happen. Well that is what i think. the only thing i think is they should bring back. Latenight SBS ((Sbs is a channel here in aus)) anime. Coz you get to watch animes that you have never heard of XD. well i better stop talking
P.S
this subject should be in the http://forum.minitokyo.net/10/general-anime--manga-talk/ place. well bye

If you happen to talk about Japanese anime, the answer is NO.

Superficially speaking.

On a deeper scale, yes, it is. The high and mighty are burnt by the minute, in the stake of public taste.

Absolutely no..There are still a legion of anime fans in the world and anyway what would this world become without anime?Creepy..

I say anime will not die out until..Just say..Year 3000.Lol

I doubt anime will be dying out anytime soon. If manga keeps on coming out, anime will continue to be produced based on these manga.

Plus even if us old anime/manga fans die out, the next generation will have a lot to catch up with if they plan to watch every existing anime out there. Anime will never die out! XD

I agree with Heaven-Phoenix on this. There is so much media out there that can be converted into an anime, and as long as there are fans for it, it won't die out...in Japan, at least.

In the US, I'm afraid is another situation in itself. With Geneon leaving the scene (at the moment), who knows if other distributors here might follow suit due to economic troubles. (why buy anime when you can download it off the net for free) ...but as previously stated, as long as there is an interest, it won't be dying out anytime soon.

I think the Japanese anime market is overcrowded, actually, which can be seen as a precursor to death. To some, this kind of environment does make it a lot more difficult for good titles to be discovered and for cult titles to thrive. The information overload is a turnoff to casual fans, because they don't have a lot of money and want to make sure they get a good title, but since this requires a lot of research, time, money, and experimenting, sometimes it's just not worth it.

@marysonnie: I agree with ya! It bothers me when some none artisitc and more commercial anime, filled with only cute characters, gains reputation without any solid and proessional bases. -_- There are animes that deserve more praise and attention.

Aside from financial issues, there's the matter of common trend. As in, what is more appreciated and accepted nowadays by younger generation. Society's ideals, ideas, social values and acceptance effects an anime's way of presentation and style. Certainly, producers will mold to them in order to market for their productions.

@tokidoki16 May I ask what exactly made you think that way? Or more correctly, what were the reasons? I don't think that anime is dying at all. :) It's pretty much alive and is still going on. :)

For me, the answer is always a NO. I'm an otaku here XD Japan has such a big market in anime production and is ranked the biggest with hundreds of new anime being aired on cable tvs nationwide. Furthermore, with the advance in technology and high-end imaging engine, new animes have created sensations and visual effects better and more realistic following the flow with time. And because Japanese do like animes more than any other people in the world, that's why Japanese animation companies would invest huge in animation production. To me, anime will continue to live even when we are all old as it will not die out eventhough there will be only one people who's interested in anime left in this world :D
Long Live Anime!

Just eight years ago many people had no idea how to pronounce the word anime, let alone know what on earth the medium was. There was no such thing as a Wal-Mart that sold anime unless it was already a super-popular title like Pokemon, Sailor Moon, or Dragonball Z. Borders, for the most part, only sold books - if you wanted to buy Japanese graphic novels, you would have to go to an actual comic book store and they would be at least $15 per volume in United States dollars.

But these days, anime and manga are almost a norm when it comes to entertainment culture. Even my teachers know what it is! And you can not only find anime and manga just about anywhere (and at much cheaper prices than eight years ago due to its overall popularity), but also merchandise and soundtracks, too. The popularity of anime is, literally, sky-rocketing by the minute, and it's absolutely amazing.

While there is certainly a possibility of foreign hype dying down in the future, by no means do I think will anime die out. Japan will continue to produce anime even if it declines as a world market because it's their animation with the Japanese as a primary audience, just as cartoons in the United States will continue to be produced for an American audience.

It just compared to few years ago. every one was all hyped up in the US, as now it is slightly and slowly dying out in the states in my opinion. As what every one said Anime will never die out in Japan where they will continually produce new anime.

Anime shall not die,not on my watch...I'll take on those who want to stop anime.Whose with me?

Whoa... you sound dedicated!

Well, I'm with you on that, but beware of indiscriminate firing.

Save those worthy of being saved.

And YES.

IF YOU THINK ANIME IS DYING OUT... THINK AGAIN.

ANIME - THE HIGH AND MIGHTY - IS SLOWLY DYING OUT!

THE KAWAII, THE IMPERIAL WILL REMAIN. WILL PROLIFERATE.

WHICH IS TOO BAD.

The High and Mighty has always been scarce, it will eventually come back. Just wait, you may be surprised.

Lol no it ant dead it far from it ! last year japan made billions of of anime and manga!

THOUSANDS of low-quality, commercialized products.

The age of high-quality, highly personal anime and manga - why, Evangelion, why? - is dying.

All you see is a desert of machinery churning out duplicates.

I don't think so, plenty of good and original anime are still being made. Anime is still evolving and changing everyday. But I understand the feeling now that we've hit an anime dry spell that is going to last a couple months.

Well.... the hype and shininess will die out until it's just a normal part of life. It will never "die out" but the passion may diminish except among the most die hard fans.

I admit I'm losing my love of anime every day. >_>

its like religion, everyone will still know about it and talk about it. But no one will really care.

Of course, the idea of religion has been around far longer than anime =P

So, I would say, for our lifetimes, anime will not die out.

simple... NO!

anime...
anime is like culture, music, food, air!
ANIME SHALL LIVE ON FOREVER!
anime can not 'die' because its not alive in the first place...lol..sorry...>.>
but the answer is NO!
(i mean alive as in living, breathing, organisim...)

Nope, I don't think its anywhere near dying out. Perhaps that initial craze has died out, where everyone thinks anime is the new black, but I think the anime culture itself is thriving - especially thanks to the internet. Plenty of new and interesting anime are still being made, some original and some based off manga, and as far as I can tell the anime fans (myself included) can be pretty hard-core.

Anime is Eternal......even it dies out,it'll live in our lil' hearts. And what are going to do with all the merchandise/DVDs/manga when it dies....throw them away?

I don't know about it 'dying' in the grand sense as I'm am relatively new to it all (just 6 or 7 months now) but I see more and more people talking about it at work and especially on IRC (outside Rizon) more and more are talking, asking, looking, sharing ... so if anything in my small slice of the world it's growing.
