Wallpaper I made that isn't accepted here. I worked hard on them! I may not have
a fancy art program (I need one) but I got style when it comes to art, writing
and music! I uploaded them to my site hosted at wordpress.
(princesslilo.wordpress.com) please comment! I will be updating.
I think the biggest thing that will need attention to in your wallpapers is the
backgrounds.
"Magic World" has a background, but doesn't match with the style of
the scan. My suggestion is the easiest way of making a background that suits the
scan is actually finding stock photos of the type of background you want and
changing it to the anime style. This can include filters (on Photoshop) - but
you must beware of overfiltering. There are some great tutorials on in particular I think one of the very first tutorials
by candy-chan on repainting a stock. It's pretty straight forward and could be a
start
The "Mizuna" wallpaper has a blank background, which is fine because
it looks very clean, but not much has been done to the scan. I'm guessing you
added the autumn leaves and text, but the Policy needs more than that. You'd get
away with a one colour background (we call it a paint bucket background because
you literally paint bucket the background to one colour) if the image you used
was heavily modified: and by this I mean with its quality improved or changed
with most likely vector art or painting. Here's an example of a paint bucket
background:
In this case, she's retraced the characters and coloured them in. The originals
were black and white. Similar to your wallpaper, she added in a few things like
the stars, text and shadow at their feet, but the scan is the biggest thing: she
coloured them and retraced them.
"Suigintou Musical Staff" has a few technical aspects that need to be
fixed: one being extraction (it's mentioned in the policy). It seems like you
took the image and somehow erased bits of it (including the white apron) and the
edges are very fuzzy and unclean. While the concept is nice, I am still kind of
confused as to why you chose music as its background - I can't really see much
in the scan that has to do with music I would put her in the forest or in a rich timber clad interior with
chandeliers and dinner tables.
A few other things:
- Image and wallpaper credits should be at the bottom (well generally anyway.
It's not a problem where you've got them now, but personally I know a lot of
people would rather hide that under their taskbars)
- Scan image sizes seem to be fairly small (it's a good thing you didn't enlarge
them though)
Just as a personal comment though, the first two wallpapers you posted will be
exceptionally hard to make backgrounds for, unless they are semi-realistic
abstract because the artist's linework is *O*!
I hope that has given you some help on what you may decide to change on your
wallpapers! I can't wait to see your uploads and kudos for putting these walls
up Keep up the great work ^^
If you do not have photoshop yet try using the pain and studying it more before
making walls...There people here who made beautiful walls with paint. If you
really could not do it then get a photoshop A.S.A.P...anyway I don't think I
should write anything since it's not your fault for having no photoshop and
kuroimisa-san had said a lot.I hope I'll be able to expect these walls to be fix
the next time I check in..And no offence..I sincerely hope I didn't hurt you..
In the suigutou wallpaper, you forgot to refill the white in the actual picture
and also, the outline looks really odd and choppy because it wasn't pure white.
I suggest you try out The GIMP, it's a free programm and all the important
functions are in it. I do all my wallies with this programm and it was enough to
get some highlight's too, so don't feel down because you haven't got
photoshop.
I suggest that first of all you should learn how to use paths because that's
actually the most important and elemental tool for walling. It can help you draw
decent backgrounds and it helps to make clean extractions as well.
Good luck on your way to become a pro waller, everyone here started out as a
beginner keep that in mind (I'm still ashamed for some of the crap I started out
with )
well in my opinion the first wallpaper has nice character but the background
seems too unprofessional and doesnt really connect with the scan.
the second wallpaper is not bad, but it seems too plain, adding the leaves were
a good idea cause of the matching colours but maybe some trees or something else
with the same theme (autumn) to give it more life
the third one seems like you ran out of ideas and just rushed it. like a cut and
paste job. the outline of the character is not cleaned or trimmed down plus some
of her is missing lol.

No, you don't really need a tablet pen. If you mean drawing shapes and stuff,
the Pen/Paths tool in graphic editing softwares work just as well. And I know
people who colour and draw armed with only their graphics program and a mouse
(see here). And they come up with
pretty good results. It all boils down to patience and effort. Of course, go
ahead and get a tablet pen if it suits you.

Hi Starynightlove!
