Here's my first wallie. I'm looking for suggestions and tips to make better wallpapers in the future. All comments will be mostly welcomed.

Hi quaestor!

Well the first thing to note is that your extraction is still kind of jagged. It's usually best to use the pentool for sharp extraction (are you using photoshop?)

Well, here are my own pentool tutorials so they might help!

Next you might think about "cleaning" the scan. It can be done in two ways: 1. following the scan cleaning tutorial on http://imanimetions.net 2. smudging very carefully within the lines to get rid of any dots and noise

Thirdly, where did the background come from? Did you make it or find it? This will largely determine how much more work you need for this. Usually if you find the background you'll need to work on it much more.

Last but not least, lighting! Well the background is very dark, whereas the character is very light. Think about it, if you're standing there, you'd be pretty dark, huh? So the lighting won't necessarily be super dark, but it'd be more dramatic. So maybe the character needs to be darker (this i don't recommend) or the background lighter - you can fiddle around with the Edit>Mode>Hue/Saturation and the lighting bar on the window that pops up (Photoshop)

Hope that helped!

PS: Although it's dark you might think of the reflection of the boat on the water and any water sparkles because of the lighting on water :3

Yes, I'm using Adobe Photoshop and thanks a lot for the tips! It will help a lot. ^^

It was not only my first wallpaper, but my first adventure in photoshop as well. I really need to take a look at the tutorials you posted.

Thanks again!
