Also depends on the weilder. As seen in some anime, the person can move faster than a bullet and may use his or her sword to block/deflect/slice the bullet(s).

I think swords are a little bit better than guns.
I mean if you are out of fire power, you will be undefended for some seconds. During this time span you could get attacked and hurt badly.
With a sword you do not have to worry about this. In addition, fighting with a sword is more noble in my eyes.

You can't beat a trained gunman with a sword in real life. In anime, Swords and guns are equal in power depending on the user.

Hmm...i think this is about personal liking as someone would prefer guns and someone would choose swords as theier weapon of choice. It depends on how you wanna use the weapon and how much can you do with the weapon of your choice. Eg: Guns are good for far-ranged attack while swords are good for melee assault or close-range combat. Even guns have many types such as assault rifles, sniper rifles, submachine guns, pistols etc. Swords also have their distinct kind, such as japanese katana, chinese broad swords, English swords, dagger, knife and etc. So, i think it depends on the user and what the user wanna do with the weapon. However, some other factors maybe like it's a family tradition to be a gunner or a swordsman.

This is just my personal opinion, no offense, just expressing thoughts that come into my mind

Guns for long range head shot, sword for CQ body-chopping, martial art (body) for snapping bones!

rpg; sword = strong = close range, gun = weaker than sword = long range.
anime; sword = guns or sword < gun or sword > gun (depends on the series)
reality; sword = ancient age gun = modern age

Guns beat swords in effectiveness.
But Swords are stronger material. In a "which is stronger" test, the bullet was cut by a katana.

for example I love Togainu No Chi & Shiki uses a sword, then there's Hellsing were Alcard uses a gun. You just can't decide between the two They're too good!

Sword is cooler.

Guns are kinda boring, or at least depicted in animes. they just stand and shoot or hit and run. Nothing fancy. For some reason the main characters never get hit.

i'd go for sword. a lot of skill can be performed by using various type of sword.

its not really a real comparison because swords are short range weapons and guns are long range weapons. in animes, i find that long range weapons are for looks, after all, why do you need to shoot a 100 missiles in macross, gundamn, etc? most of the time the fight is decided at short range. after all with short range weapon anime like bleach, naruto, rk skill and technique is involved and the fight sequences are a lot cooler.

I personally like swords, preferably katanas or other Asian style sword. I just like how in anime like Rurouni Kenshin, they make swordsmanship look so much cooler than using a gun (although Vash the Stampede is still pretty cool). And it's also alot easier to make attacks and techniques with a sword than it is with a gun, so its sorta easier for animes and mangas to show longer, more drawn out fights of people crossing swords than fights with people with people shooting and dodging bullets.

I chose swords. I see enough gun violence on TV. I don't want to watch it in my anime. I let Saiyuki slide because it's funny. But as for others, I just want to overlook it.

Swords are cool. The fighting styles and moves are usually elegant & beautiful. Guns are too noisy and crude.

The sword is the greatest weapon of all time! It is timeless! It is graceful! It is . . . unappreciated, YOU DUMBASSES WHO THINK GUNS ARE BETTER! Think about it. Anybody can shoot a gun (can't aim for shit but hey, people get lucky), only certain people with skills can use it. IT'S FOR THE UNIQUE, MORONS! For pity's sake, a COWARD can face their enemy with gun pointed the foes head, but the brave (which is sometimes the same as stupid) are willing to fight guns using a sword. Hellooooo, it's an extension of yourself, never to be used against you. For a bonus, it comes in all shapes and sizes, with kickass power!
