Hey guys so after much thought and consideration, i tried the very little to no filter aproach and man is it hard to come up with something totally original from scratch O.o, so far i got this i know its missing alot and i can figure out the stars to be more realistic or "shiney" as most star are that ive seen. I donno what else to put in it the whole left cornor is blank ... i enchanched the scan a bit but donno if its enough. Let me know what everyone thinks. Hopefully its a bit better then my pervious filtered wallpapers :-D

Spelling error: *cant figure out the stars*

It looks okay :)

Just a few things:

- the girl is huge
and I mean huge. For some reason it just looks out of proportion. Is there a way of making her smaller or is her head cut off at the top? Even if it is, try to make her smaller and we can teach you how to draw the top of her head.

- The lighting of the girl
It's nighttime and her colours are completely different to the background.
Select the scan layer, go to Image> Adjustments> Hue/Saturation and make her a bit darker and a bit more blue (but not too much). Try it bit by bit and see.

It's best to do this on a duplicate of your original layer so you can always go back to the beginning if you don't like it.

- Doesn't matter about the left side being empty.
You can have some text in the left - but not in the corner. In the centre between the left edge of the girl and the edge of the wallpaper.

- the black silouhette
What exactly is it meant to be? Trees or buildings? If they are buildings they have lights, and if they are trees they have gaps. Trees aren't solid ^_^'

- stars

Try the Greg Martin tutorial.

You're on the right track, but I still am kind of confused why you chose that background in the first place :\ Baffles me. Oh well, you can try your best to make this blend together, I suppose. Merry Christmas and hope to see some updates of this wall...~

yeah her head is cut off this is why its huges :D as for her being darker i though teh same thing and no those arnt trees there large rock formation if u can believe it. O.o

I was lazy to comment on your other walls because..I was just lazy to think about it,makes my head dizzy but I can't ignore this one when it's from one of my favourite animes.

You can redraw the head actually I tried once,I redrew the head of Athrun on something I did for my friend.
The original image i got off a site:Ahtrun&Kira
The card I made for my friend:Example
You can use the pen tool actually, use it like a vector or something.

In my opinion,I think the moon should go up in the sky because you rarely see moon like a rising sun isn't it?

One more thing, she had been enlarged hasn't she?Is she had not been enlarge then I suggest you clean the image. It looks grainy when compared to your clean and smooth background.Thats all I think.Hope for more updates.

Merry Christmas!

It's not like i can do any better, but why the night background with a moon? For me, it makes the wall look sad or something, you know, black, darkness... I see some people is more interested on doing an extraordinary great background and put a barely-worked anime pic somewhere. Some wallpapers are so saturated with colors or stuff that gives headaches instead of relax. Some official wallpapers look really simple compared to some fan-made ones, but officials are beautiful.
But remember, this is just me. I may be wrong with what i said since i don't make wallpapers.
And yeah, keep practicing.

Too dark...There's the moon you see,so you can most probably see the whole character, the scan looks much better but it looks a bit blur,so those are rock formations?I think you should put colour into them..Have you ever seen the moon when there's no light anywhere,it is ever so bright,it's like the sun only dimmer. So you can see a kind of white light highlighting the surroundings. If those dark silhouettes are trees,I think there should be gaps..Since the picture a bit too dark,I have no further suggestions.

good advice thx ill see what i can do. :)

With the method I taught you to change the girl (Mode> Hue/Saturation), you can try to also move the saturation bar as well. Did you use a lighting effects filter? Those aren't very good. You're better off using the dodge tool to lighten parts of the scan instead, because the filter will treat the image as 2D. If you use the dodge tool specifically on some parts, it'll look more natural.

Also, try not to put the moon into the corner. In fact, try not to put anything in corners - it makes them look added on. Move it away from the edge and just test it out.

She's still big. I really think you should make her smaller and just learn to draw the top of her head. Provided you shrink her, we'll give you the tutorials. :)

Also remember to set this as your desktop wallpaper while you are making this: don't forget that people will use this for their desktops. It looks different when you have icons over the image compared to in photoshop!

uhm just my opinion^_^
like futatsunonegai has said, the wall is too dark. You should make the moon glowing and put it at another position. The right part of the girl should be lighten too becauz of the moon light.

gud luck XD

alright i move dthe moon but now the moon is shaded and i might aswell find another moon thats why i put it in the cornor. Anyways i made what i could to make her smaller and added the top of her head as far as the dodge tool i was unable to understand how its supose to be done correctly so it didnt work out i played with Hue/ Saturation though.

^_^' You just made the moon look gloomier. I don't think there was a problem with moon, it's just the lighting. The moon is the source of light, so cast the light starting from it. The tip of trees and left-side of the girl has to be illuminated. Also some parts of her face. Wherever that is in contact with light's touch. Also the field behind the girl has to be light and show what's bathing in darkness.

could u add something in the bg.. like comet or stars in different sizes. n wings make her cuter ^^

Problems now:
The trees,the dark looking things...
Thanks to priincess-san I remembered that whenever Hayate changed to her armor she always have four black wings behind her.

The overall wall is nice but no offence I won't download it,because the light seems to be from the back of the trees, tried fixing it..

I think it looks pretty good, grant I ususally like more detail in the backround but overall its a nice and simple looking wall.

any tips on how i can provide a bit of emmunilation ( lighten the mood with the moon glow ) how can i make a wide spread "glow" coming from the moon like sun light rays ? looking at it on my desktop makes me deprest kinda lol..

i like it!

First thing I think you should shift the light...and change the colour of the background, don't put black but maybe dark blue.I think you should discard the black coloured things that looked like the forest..or whatever it is.I hope no offence it taken.

hey i think its really nice! i love the background but i'm an amateur so i dont know wat else to say...you c ould change the color of the character to suit the background maybe...

Small update, i love the background myself but it seem kinda empty on the left corner i don't what else to add or subtract, been trying to play with the colors of the image, needles to say my Photo shop skills r low and I'm still learning, been looking around for decent tutorials online but couldn't find any useful ones anyone know any sites which help newbie Photo shop users out?

Great potential! I know how hard it is to make a background from scratch, I take forever making mine.

Now, suggestions for improvement:
-The girl has rough edges, it seems like she was not extracted smoothly. A simple trick to this is to do an inner glow and outer glow layer effect for the girl, but that mght not fit the background. A second option is to take some time to smooth her further.

-The moon looks like it has rough edges too, did you extract it from a photograph? To make a good moon, google 'how to make a realistic planet in photoshop' and you'll get it. Otherwise, a less time-consuming approach would be to download some planets brushes and just stamp one on. It won't look nearly as good as the first option, though.

-The blue glow in the background. If you look closely at its middle, it forms an almost straight line. The glow needs to be curved, not linear. To solve this, either apply a radial gradient or download 'light beams' brushes bu Obsidian Dawn (google it), and then stamp one on, select it and apply a radial gradient on it.

-To have a bit of 'moon glow', you might want to play with 'outer glow' layer effect for your moon and change it's colour to perhaps light blue. You could also use cloud brushes to stamp some clouds on the top and near the moon and play with its layer settings and opacity to give the sky some atmosphere.

-For some reason, the black area at the bottom looks too plain for me. I would have preferred it to be black buildings with lit up lights, but that is a question of taste.

Keep going ! :)

Small update2: added 2 shooting stars.. ( after a couple hours of pain ) Cleaned up the character some more.
