Its the same thing as reading a French book, or comic book, or even browsing
your game or anime sites at school or at a cafe. I didn't really care, its not
like there is anything embarrassing about liking anime.
I do it all the time. In fact I often bring two volumes because I often have a
lot of time with nothing to do. However, I behave exactly the same when I bring
real books to read so it may just be a weird habit I developed. I'm only
embarassed by it if, as you mentioned, I happen to be on a page with
questionable content (certain volumes of Love Hina I never take because of the
cover art ).
I read my Manga anywhere i go when i have time to read it. i mean think about
it. if people didn't want you reading japanese comics in public they wouldn't
sell them.
reading manga in public doesnt really seem disturbing. as long as its not ecchi
or hentai ^^
in fact i feel a sense of coolness while reading in public ^_^
my friends often rent mangas from shops and we all read it together. once in
A-level our lecturer finished teaching and theres some free time, a friend just
took one out from his drawer and read it. his desk was in front of the
lecturer's.
Our school's library has a small manga section, and apparently, once in a while,
you can find people check out like... 15 books(?) at once and this isn't just
one person doing that. I don't mind reading it in public, it's just the same as
reading a book, well... they are books...
i do it almost everytime new manga comes out. last time i read it in the lab.
not that i've graduated and working, i do it in the office.
my colleague said " u read comics? like my son.." for me it sounds
like a sarcasm, since he's older and he meant comics are for kids, but what the
hell?
man, i like manga and i'm not ashamed of it~

and the guy standing next to me was even more engrossed in MY book than i was.

I read manga everywhere I can xD Though it gets kind of annoying when people
keep asking me "OMG why do you read your book backwards?" and I have
to explain it over and over again <.< Thinking of that, I wouldn't mind
manga getting a little more popular over here in my country.

Not really. Usually in my class, when someone pulls out a manga, everyone would want to take a look at it too. They really get amazed by it!
