Are you interested in anime to the point where you find yourself taking a
Japanese language class, trying out a Japanese dish, or listening to Japanese
music? Rather than being interested in just anime/manga, has our fandom extended
into the culture?
I think that happens to almost every anime fan that sticks with it for a few
years - I know it's happened to me. ^_^ I'm going to be starting college in a
few months (YES! No more high school!), and I really, really want to learn
Japanese, even if it means I have to take the classes at a different college
than the one I plan on attending. I also listen to a lot of Japanese music now,
even though my friends at school think I'm slightly crazy. ^_^
Definitely Yes!
It usually starts off with music and then it goes deeper and deeper. I've become
to like kimonos a lot, I think they look really beautiful
I held a lecture about Japanise culture in my class, with two of my friends. The
teacher said, the lecture should be atleas an hour long. First we thought that
was going to be difficult, but after three hours, we we're only half-way through
I've been to Japan and have hosted 2 exchange students I've also
taken Japanese for 5 years and am a cosplay/con goer so yeah, I
am now a Japan addict because of anime. Oh and I also eat sushi/Japanese food at
least once a month (sometimes I order Tempura, Udon, or Curry at
times.)
Japanese culture is awesome! And America really has no "culture" so
I've easily taken a liking to Japan's culture
I guess I will answer yes... even if it's sure when you read/watch manga/anime,
you pick up elements of the japanese culture. So I'm now very disconnected of
the music that people in my place listen since I'm now in j-pop.
I would like to travel in Japan... but I'm not really sure to learn japanese
since I'm a slow-learner in foreign languages... so many years after I found out
that my english is quite ok... even if I have of course learnt few japanese
words like "ohisa shiburi desu" (long time not see) ^_^
I'd say yes and no. I do like anime and enjoy listening to japanese music but I
have no intention or want of ever taking a japanese language class. It's just
too complex for me to learn at this point in time.
I would answer yes, to an extent. I was already interested in Japanese culture
before I discovered anime/manga, so I can't really say that my love for anime is
what caused me to be interested in Japanese culture. And while I did end up
taking 3 semesters of Japanese in college, it wasn't solely because of my love
of anime. I am half Japanese so I wanted to learn more about my
heritage/culture.
I would also answer yes, but i think this a natural thing to happen with any
subject. For instance, if you were to get into Spanish art, you'd naturally
become more interested in their culture too. If you were a student studying
French cooking , you'd become more interested in France. Its just a natural
thing. I have always had some interest in the asian ways of life, especially the
women, but since I ahve gotten into anime a little over a year ago, my interest
has grown immensely.
Hm...I like the Japanese culture so I guess that anime has pulled me into that
direction but I like almost any asian culture. I love to try new things and
another similar country is a good place to study. I love the sushi too! That I
knew before anime.
Yes it has more me actually, to the point where I started learning japanese so I
wouldn't need to look at the subtitles most of the time, or not need them at
all. =] is a good thing yes? owari!
Well, I think I got into Japanese culture out of my own accord. I don't know how
deep I will go into Japanese culture though. The anime wasn't exactly a part of
the reason why I like Japanese culture, but it's nice to be into both.
Sort of, I admit it is one of the reasons that I am taking a Japanese class now
(second course in japanese), however my passion for anime/manga is only a small
factor in my decision.
What I am more interested in getting out of is another foreign language skill to
put on the resume and get paid once graduating from the college. My interest
also stems from the fact that Chinese (my native language) is similar to
Japanese not only because of the Kanji writing system but also similar sentence
structure, and pronounciations. (I found it indeed true that Asians do better in
the class than caucasians)
However, because the japanese class requires a great deal of "extra"
commitment (My major is Engineering), it is a good way to drill yourself into
being a more responsible person. Something you might find it useful later in
your professional career.
Like most people here have said....yea. I think that its true for most people.
I've made a kimono, worn kimono in an Obon Festival as well as danced for
multiple years now. I am taking Japanese 001 (Elementary Japanese) in college
now. I fell in love with their traditional homes. My mom and bro watch anime
with me, as well as drama (^_^;;) I've been listening to their music since I
first started branching out into anime. The funny thing is now......its becoming
more than just a fascination with Japan but most of Asia as a whole.
^_^
And I am more so determined to go there and to make friends with people there (I
have made one recently!) I wish so much that I could be there! ^_^
oh yes, definitely
I'm getting curious enough that sometimes I'll go out of my way to look up
cultural references, and then go on and learn even more. It broadens my horizons
considerably.
I've always been into japanese culture, thats how i found out about anime/manga.
My cousin was intersted in anime and when she showed it to me i then though wow
japanese anime is the best i fell in love with everything from japan.
Yeah, it's sort of expanded...we all insult each other in Japanese, & now
it's sort of insane. It's still in it's infancy, though. I'm trying to learn
more about regular Japanese culture, like marriage, Ikibana(flower arranging),
and I'm still addicted to Ichiban/Sapporo ramen, the kind that takes three
minutes on the stove. I'll continue to learn, though!
Yes acutally. I got really interested when I started looking into the extras and
liner notes on the anime I got. It was knid a neat to learn how soe the jokes
were adapted or how certain words could have been interpreted several ways. I am
currently looking into learning Japanese and possibly going to Japan for a
visit. It'll be kinda weird though as I'll literlly be a head and shoulders
above almost everyone.

I totaly agree with that! I have started to look into the cultural iteams such asd food and music also...

Yes Im suprised of this too^^ I dunno..but I start to love the culture too..and like this anime stuff like school uniform..And theyre so cute..
You guys seem to have taken it to a much greater extent than I have. I think it's really great how one interest leads into another.
Oh yes, in fact i just started taking a Japanese class this semester =] It's great fun!
