what is the point in following Christianity?

Religion & Science

Minitokyo » Forum » Life & Lifestyle Fora » Religion & Science  what is the point in following Christianity?

I had the same questions and doubts when I believed in religions.
But anyways...

U pple that follows a religion should have something to backup when someone attacks u about that subject. U only have to tell what are u feelings about that... What Christianity gives u that makes u feel attach to it?

U told it... Feeling relax when u think in Jesus... Jesus is a powerful creature, even though he's dead, or, excuse aside of ur "Father" throne... I have different ideas from u becuz I'm atheist as well, but i'm not like ur friend whose life depends on logics and science and those kind of thing that must be prove for u to believe them, but anyways.

If u feel arouse when someone attacks u, that means that ur bond with ur God is not that strong... and if u're havin problem questionin about salvation and the existence of hell u have a lot of problem...

Have u ever listen "the one who believes in God, must believe in Satan"... why? they opposite, they Ying and Yang... they night and day... is a Dicotomy, but according to Ying yan theory: God's some evils inside, and Satan's some goods inside. Pple cant bare that ur God has a bit of bad in its being. But that's not the theme...

Ur entire life ur strugglin without knowin for gainin a ticket to a sit in heaven... In the school the teachers star sayin the good road is from Jesus, the bad one is from Luzbel... so... that's just even a metaphore... did Jesus pass a great life? Nooo!

What makes u sad, makes u stronger... what make u bad some time will make a greater person after...

I know pple who life went off the "good road" and long time they return to it... but what else.

I'm not against Christianity, I accept it more than Catolicism, but u have to say being Christian means that u must follows rules, almost forced for u to be afraid and to not get misguide, becuz if u do: U WILL BURN IN HELL!

thanks life i dont believe on those, becuz right now i woulda commit suicide a long time ago.

Sorry.

Take Care

i think... what all/most the people said is about studying and stuff... o feel that you have to study from god's word[erm... but i dont study] hehs... but it is just the faith you pu ton god... it is not that important to study... the most important is the faith and trust from god....if you want to try how to trust others.... ask 1 of your friend that you think you can trust on and tell her that she is suppose to catch you when you fall and if you dare to fall it means that you put your trust on her... and i think that is the same trust you must put on god...

and for christians... i know it is hard to feel god's presence around... he is omnipresent.... he will always be there... just think when you are afraid... scard, frightened... anything feeling... just think of god... he will listen to you... your emotions... your cries... everything... as god is with you and will never leave you...

this is quoted from a bookmark i have:
"footprints

one night a man had a dream.
he dreamed he was walking
along the beach with the Lord.
across the sky flashed scenes
from his life. for each scene, he
noticed two sets of footprints
in the sand; one belonging to him,
and the other to the Lord.

when the last scene of his life
flashed before him, he looked
back at the footprints in the sand.
he noticed many times along
the path of his life there was only
one set of footprint. he also
noticed that it happened at the very
lowest and saddest times in his life.

this really bothered him and he
questioned the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said that once i decided
to follow you, you'd walk with me
all the way. but i havge noticed that
buring the most troublesome times
in my life, there is only one set
of footprints. i dont understand
why when u needed you most
you would leave me."

the Lord replied."my precious,
precious child, i love you and
i would never leave you. during
your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that i carried you." "

ok... this shows that god is always with us and that he wouldn't let us go.... even for the highest price anyone could offer. god would not even thing of letting us go... only when we lose our faith in god... that is when god and you have this distance... so believe in god and believe in yourself... no one can buy that "friendship" nor break it... so treasure it... use it and bring all your friends and family... your loved ones nearer to god... as they may be getting further and further from god... so make full use of what you have with god... and bring more friends to god....

do not believe in the da vinci code... it is just a show/ book... it isn't true... all the "facts" in there arn't true... although it states to be true... if you believe in it... you would be drawing that line inbetween you and god... and your faith towards him will be weakened... and that... the devil can attack you anytime... causing you in death... your faith towards god to be even greater apart... do not give in to these things.... not only it would cause you your life... it will cause your loves ones to be temptated and into the trouble you have caused... so dont cause it... believe in god! he is the saviour!

Why? It'll brings us happiness... :D

Why Living a Godly Life Brings Happiness
JEHOVAH is "the happy God," and he wants you to enjoy life. (1 Timothy 1:11) By walking in his way, you can benefit yourself and experience tranquillity that is deep and lasting, like an ever-flowing river. Walking in God's way also moves one to perform continuous acts of righteousness, "like the waves of the sea." This brings true happiness.--Isaiah 48:17, 18

Some may object, 'People sometimes suffer for doing what is right.' True, and that is what happened to Jesus' apostles. Although persecuted, however, they rejoiced and went on "declaring the good news about the Christ." (Acts 5:40-42) We can learn important lessons from this. One is that our living a godly life does not guarantee that we will always be treated well. "In fact," wrote the apostle Paul, "all those desiring to live with godly devotion in association with Christ Jesus will also be persecuted." (2 Timothy 3:12) The reason for this is that Satan and his world are opposed to those who live in a godly way. (John 15:18, 19; 1 Peter 5:8) But genuine happiness is not dependent on external things. Rather, it comes from a conviction that we are doing what is right and therefore have God's smile of approval.--Matthew 5:10-12; James 1:2, 3; 1 Peter 4:13, 14

There are people who feel that they can earn God's favor through occasional acts of devotion but can forget about him at other times. True worship of Jehovah God is not like that. It affects a person's conduct throughout all his waking hours, from day to day, year after year. That is why it is also called "The Way." (Acts 19:9; Isaiah 30:21) It is a godly way of living that calls upon us to speak and act in harmony with God's Word...

When new students of the Bible see that they need to make some changes in order to please Jehovah, they may wonder, 'Is a godly life really worth living?' You can be sure that it is. Why? Because "God is love," and his ways are therefore meant to benefit us. (1 John 4:8) God is also wise and knows what is best for us. Since Jehovah God is almighty, he is able to strengthen us to fulfill our desire to please him by breaking a bad habit. (Philippians 4:13) Let us consider some principles involved in godly living and see how applying them brings happiness... :D

HONESTY RESULTS IN HAPPINESS
Jehovah is "the God of truth." (Psalm 31:5) No doubt, you desire to follow his example and be known as a truthful person. Honesty leads to self-respect and a feeling of well-being. Because dishonesty is so common in this sinful world, however, Christians need this reminder: "Speak truth each one of you with his neighbor . . . Let the stealer steal no more, but rather let him do hard work . . . that he may have something to distribute to someone in need." (Ephesians 4:25, 28) Christian employees do an honest day's work. Unless their employer gives permission, they do not take things that belong to him. Whether at work, in school, or at home, a worshiper of Jehovah must be 'honest in all things.' (Hebrews 13:18) Anyone who makes it a practice to lie or steal cannot have God's favor.--Deuteronomy 5:19; Revelation 21:8

GENEROSITY BRINGS HAPPINESS
There is happiness in being generous, whereas greedy persons will not "inherit God's kingdom." (1 Corinthians 6:10) A common form of greed is gambling, which is an attempt to make money through the losses of others. Jehovah does not approve of those who are "greedy of dishonest gain." (1 Timothy 3:8) Even where gambling is legal and a person gambles for fun, he could become addicted and be promoting a practice that has ruined many lives. Gambling often brings hardship to the gambler's family, who may be left with little money to buy such necessities as food and clothing.--1 Timothy 6:10

Because of their loving generosity, Christians find joy in assisting others, especially needy fellow believers. (James 2:15, 16) Before Jesus came to earth, he observed God's generosity toward mankind. (Acts 14:16, 17) Jesus himself gave his time, his talents, and even his life in behalf of humankind. Hence, he was well qualified to say: "There is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving." (Acts 20:35) Jesus also spoke well of the poor widow who generously put two small coins in the temple treasure chest, for she gave "her whole living." (Mark 12:41-44) The ancient Israelites and the first-century Christians provide examples of joyful generosity in giving material support to the congregation and the Kingdom work. (1 Chronicles 29:9; 2 Corinthians 9:11-14) In addition to making material contributions for these purposes, present-day Christians happily offer praise to God and use their lives in his service. (Romans 12:1; Hebrews 13:15) Jehovah blesses them for using their time, energy, and other resources, including their funds, to support true worship and promote the worldwide work of preaching the good news of the Kingdom.--Proverbs 3:9, 10

OTHER FACTORS PROMOTING HAPPINESS
To be happy, Christians must also 'guard their thinking abilities.' (Proverbs 5:1, 2) This requires that they read and meditate on God's Word and wholesome Bible literature. But there are things to avoid. For instance, excessive drinking of alcoholic beverages can make a person lose control of his thinking. In such a state, many people get involved in immoral behavior, act violently, and cause deadly accidents. No wonder the Bible says that drunkards will not inherit God's Kingdom! (1 Corinthians 6:10) Determined to stay "sound in mind," true Christians avoid drunkenness, and this helps to promote happiness among them.--Titus 2:2-6

A clean body contributes to happiness. Yet, many become addicted to harmful substances. For example, consider the use of tobacco. The World Health Organization reports that smoking "kills three million people each year." Breaking the tobacco habit can be difficult because of temporary withdrawal symptoms. On the other hand, many ex-smokers find that they have better health and more money for household needs. Yes, overcoming the tobacco habit or addiction to other harmful substances will contribute to a clean body, a clear conscience, and true happiness.--2 Corinthians 7:1

HAPPINESS IN MARRIAGE
Those living together as husband and wife should make sure that their marriage has been properly registered with the civil authorities. (Mark 12:17) They also need to view wedlock as a serious responsibility. True, separation might become necessary in cases of willful nonsupport, extreme abuse, or the absolute endangerment of spirituality. (1 Timothy 5:8; Galatians 5:19-21) But the apostle Paul's words at 1 Corinthians 7:10-17 encourage marriage mates to stay together. For true happiness, of course, they must be faithful to each other. Paul wrote: "Let marriage be honorable among all, and the marriage bed be without defilement, for God will judge fornicators and adulterers." (Hebrews 13:4) The term "marriage bed" denotes sexual intercourse between a man and woman legally married to each other. No other sexual relationship, such as marriage to more than one wife, can be described as "honorable among all." Moreover, the Bible condemns premarital intercourse and homosexuality.--Romans 1:26, 27; 1 Corinthians 6:18

Fornication may bring a few moments of physical pleasure, but it does not result in true happiness. It displeases God and can scar the person's conscience. (1 Thessalonians 4:3-5) The sad consequences of illegitimate sex may be AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. "It has been estimated that more than 250 million people worldwide are infected annually with gonorrhoea, and about 50 million with syphilis," states one medical report. There is also the problem of unwanted pregnancies. The International Planned Parenthood Federation reports that, around the world, more than 15 million girls between the ages of 15 and 19 become pregnant each year, and a third of them have abortions. A study showed that in one African country, abortion complications result in 72 percent of all deaths among teenage girls. Some fornicators may escape disease and pregnancy but not emotional damage. Many lose their self-respect and even hate themselves... >_<

Although adultery may be forgiven, it is a valid Scriptural basis for divorce on the part of the innocent mate. (Matthew 5:32; compare Hosea 3:1-5.) When such immorality results in the breakup of a marriage, this may leave deep emotional scars on the innocent mate and on the children. For the good of the human family, God's Word points out that his adverse judgment will come upon unrepentant fornicators and adulterers. Moreover, it clearly shows that those who practice sexual immorality "will not inherit God's kingdom."--Galatians 5:19, 21.

"NO PART OF THE WORLD"
Those desiring to please Jehovah and enjoy Kingdom blessings avoid idolatry in any form. The Bible shows that it is wrong to make and worship images, including those of Christ, or of Jesus' mother, Mary. (Exodus 20:4, 5; 1 John 5:21) So, true Christians do not venerate icons, crosses, and images. They also avoid more subtle forms of idolatry, such as acts of devotion to flags and the singing of songs that glorify nations. When pressured to perform such acts, they recall Jesus' words to Satan: "It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service." (Matthew 4:8-10) Jesus said that his followers are "no part of the world." (John 17:14) This means being neutral in political affairs and living peacefully in harmony with Isaiah 2:4, which says: "He [Jehovah God] will certainly render judgment among the nations and set matters straight respecting many peoples. And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore." :nya:

Being "no part of the world" also means breaking off all association with "Babylon the Great," the world empire of false religion. Unclean worship spread from ancient Babylon until it held harmful spiritual dominion over people earth wide. "Babylon the Great" embraces all religions whose doctrines and practices are out of harmony with the knowledge of God. (Revelation 17:1, 5, 15) No faithful worshiper of Jehovah will engage in interfaith activities by sharing in worship with different religions or by having spiritual fellowship with any part of Babylon the Great. (Numbers 25:1-9; 2 Corinthians 6:14) Consequently, many new Bible students send a letter of resignation to the religious organization to which they belong. This has brought them closer to the true God, as promised: "'Get out from among them, and separate yourselves,' says Jehovah, 'and quit touching the unclean thing'; 'and I will take you in.'" (2 Corinthians 6:17; Revelation 18:4, 5) Is not such acceptance by our heavenly Father what you keenly desire?

WEIGHING ANNUAL OBSERVANCES
A godly life frees us from the often burdensome celebrating of worldly holidays. For instance, the Bible does not reveal the exact day of Jesus' birth. 'I thought Jesus was born on December 25!' some may exclaim. This is not possible because he died in the spring of 33 C.E. at 33 1/2 years of age. Moreover, at the time of his birth, shepherds were "living out of doors and keeping watches in the night over their flocks." (Luke 2:8) In the land of Israel, late December is a cold, rainy season during which sheep would be kept in shelters overnight to protect them from the winter weather. Actually, December 25 was set aside by the Romans as the birthday of their sun god. Centuries after Jesus was on earth, apostate Christians adopted this date for the celebration of Christ's birth. Consequently, true Christians do not celebrate Christmas or any other holiday based on false religious beliefs. Because they give Jehovah exclusive devotion, they also do not observe holidays that idolize sinful humans or nations... :)

The Bible specifically mentions only two birthday observances, both involving men who did not serve God. (Genesis 40:20-22; Matthew 14:6-11) Since the Scriptures do not reveal the birth date of the perfect man Jesus Christ, why should we give special attention to the birthdays of imperfect humans? (Ecclesiastes 7:1) Of course, godly parents do not await a special day to show their children love...

For those pursuing a godly life, there is one day each year to be specially observed. It is the Lord's Evening Meal, often called the Memorial of Christ's death. Concerning it, Jesus commanded his followers: "Keep doing this in remembrance of me." (Luke 22:19, 20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-25) When Jesus instituted this meal on the night of Nisan 14, 33 C.E., he used unleavened bread and red wine, representing his sinless human body and his perfect blood. (Matthew 26:26-29) These emblems are partaken of by Christians anointed with God's holy spirit. They have been taken into the new covenant and the covenant for the Kingdom, and they have a heavenly hope. (Luke 12:32; 22:20, 28-30; Romans 8:16, 17; Revelation 14:1-5) Nevertheless, benefits are experienced by all those present on the evening that corresponds with Nisan 14 on the ancient Jewish calendar. They are reminded of the love shown by Jehovah God and Jesus Christ in the sin-atoning ransom sacrifice that makes eternal life possible for those having divine favor.--Matthew 20:28; John 3:16

EMPLOYMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT
True Christians are under obligation to work hard and provide for their needs. Accomplishing this brings family heads a feeling of satisfaction. (1 Thessalonians 4:11, 12) Of course, if a Christian's employment conflicted with the Bible, this would rob him of happiness. Yet, it is sometimes difficult for a Christian to find employment that is in harmony with Bible standards. For instance, some employees are required to deceive customers. On the other hand, many employers will make concessions to accommodate the conscience of an honest worker, not wanting to lose a trustworthy employee. Whatever develops, however, you can be sure that God will bless your efforts to find employment that leaves you with a clean conscience.--2 Corinthians 4:2

Since God wants his servants to be happy, we need to balance hard work with refreshing periods of recreation and rest. (Mark 6:31; Ecclesiastes 3:12, 13) Satan's world promotes ungodly entertainment. But to please God, we must be selective about books we read, radio programs and music we listen to, and concerts, films, plays, television programs, and videos we watch. If the entertainment we chose in the past conflicts with the warnings in such scriptures as Deuteronomy 18:10-12, Psalm 11:5, and Ephesians 5:3-5, we will please Jehovah and will be happier if we make adjustments... :)

RESPECT FOR LIFE AND BLOOD
For true happiness, we need to view human life as sacred, even as Jehovah does. His Word forbids us to commit murder. (Matthew 19:16-18) In fact, God's Law to Israel shows that he views the unborn child as a precious life--not something to be destroyed. (Exodus 21:22, 23) For that matter, we must not treat life as something cheap by using tobacco, abusing our body with drugs or alcohol, or taking needless risks. Neither should we engage in any life-threatening pursuits nor should we ignore safety precautions, which might result in bloodguilt.--Deuteronomy 22:8

Jehovah told Noah and his family that blood represents the soul, or life. Therefore, God forbade them to eat any blood. (Genesis 9:3, 4) Since we are their descendants, that law is binding upon all of us. Jehovah told the Israelites that blood was to be poured out on the ground and was not to be used for man's own purposes. (Deuteronomy 12:15, 16) And God's law on blood was reiterated when first-century Christians were instructed: "Keep abstaining . . . from blood." (Acts 15:28, 29) Out of respect for the sanctity of life, godly people do not accept blood transfusions, even if others insist that such a procedure would be lifesaving. Many medical alternatives acceptable to Jehovah's Witnesses have proved to be very effective and do not expose one to the hazards of blood transfusions. Christians know that only Jesus' shed blood is truly lifesaving. Faith in it brings forgiveness and the prospect of eternal life.--Ephesians 1:7

Clearly, living a godly life requires effort. It may result in ridicule from family members or acquaintances. (Matthew 10:32-39; 1 Peter 4:4) But the rewards of living such a life far outweigh any trials. It results in a clean conscience and provides wholesome companionship with fellow worshipers of Jehovah. (Matthew 19:27, 29) Then, too, imagine living forever in God's righteous new world. (Isaiah 65:17, 18) And what joy there is in complying with Bible counsel and thus making Jehovah's heart rejoice! (Proverbs 27:11) No wonder that living a godly life brings happiness!--Psalm 128:1, 2

The point of christianity is that you believe that Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of God. The point on following christianity is that if your a christian you believe in God the Father and Jesus Christ and you wish to honor and love them! That you wish to follow what they have to say because they love you and will never abandon you. I'm not saying you don't have a choice in the matter, you already know you have a choice, but God created man so we will love Him and Glorify His name. This is what almost all christians believe.

When you believe, you follow christianity to obey God. I believe that God is the only one that you need to fear. You don't need to fear death, or life, o anything, but God (even if as a human you are weak, and sometimes you have fear). God was the one who reached for us with His son Jesus. Jesus died for all of us, and He says that He is the only way to reach God.

Other religions will not take you to God, bacause they claim to thake other ways. And some of them have many gods, and is almost impossible to please them all. Or their original makers weren't trying to make a big religion at all, or be worshiped. (I am not an expert in humans beliefes)

If you believe in God, you must follow God. If someone make the desicion of not believe in God, they will not get convinced by anything that anyone say. If you want someone (that not believe in God) to believe, pray for that someone, maybe God will have mercy and their eyes will be open (only God can do everything).

With christianity you are not looking for a religion, you are looking to have a close relationship with God.

The Christian view: God is the Creator of Man and Earth, He gave His son's life to atone for our sins, all good things in life come from God, and so on. Therefore we should love God and honour Him by practicing Christianity, doing good deeds, spreading His word, etc.

The pragmatic view: To many Christian denominations and moderates/fundamentalists, Christian Hell is permanent. Any other religion, u get out eventually. So if u follow christianity and it turns out there's no God, u just get a few years/centuries of agony b4 ascension to Heaven, reincarnation, etc. If u stay an atheist, and turns out there IS a God, then it doesn't matter whether ur Gandhi or Bush, u get ETERNAL Hell.

First you have to know that hell exist and even if your friend does not believe in it, he is going to hell when he die because hell does exist. The majority of the time we follow a religion because we are afraid of God and for that reason we follow his commands. You need to tell him that he is going to know the true when he die, and he could lose his soul for not accepting Christ. Christianity teach us how to aproach to God and be friends with him. Someone who do not believe in God is completly lost because without him, we are nothing. You know that God exist and we all are going to face him at the time of our death. Even your friend who do not believe in him will face him. And you need to tell him that. Be prepare for what is coming for you!

I think, believing in any religion should be like falling in love, really. If you do, you do, and if you don't, you don't. Ever been in a loveless relationship? That's how it's like. So, short answer? No, there's no real way to convince your friend logically that god ever exist, not unless you want to show some shady pseudo-scientific things which he won't buy anyways. Long answer, No, there's no way you could convince your friend to follow your religion. The only thing you can do, really, is just respect what he believes, and if you still want to be able to discuss religious matters with him, you will have to listen to him as well.

And on that note, if you do fall in love, and are in a relationship, in this case, religion, it shouldn't be THAT hard of work to maintain it. If it is hard, then, well, re-examine your motives. Are you still in it because you're still in love? Or just because of the old comfort and laziness to face the real world? It is a hard cold world out there without this whole believe that god exists, and that there's life after death, etc. Maybe you're afraid of all these? But then again, if the love is still strong, your relationship shouldn't be that hard, yeah?

hey that's wrong!
wether we've done so much bad things around us, He can forgive us! bcoz He's a God, He cant let His childs to get no chance in their lifes! just believe Him 100% n never leave Him,u'll be goin to the Heaven in the next life! but dont believe Him just bcoz u want something, that's a lie

The point of christians,I think is more the point why us humans exists,Jesus said as a message, love each other,'cause obviaouly we don't exists for to hate neither make great things but live peacefully. That's one of the things on how I see.

to avoid being burned (or drowned or whatever way they decide to kill) as a witch? maybe to start another crusade to take back the "holy land" by killing muslims? how about, terrorizing other people to convert to christianity through the fear of hell?

Quote by oudorobouto avoid being burned (or drowned or whatever way they decide to kill) as a witch? maybe to start another crusade to take back the "holy land" by killing muslims? how about, terrorizing other people to convert to christianity through the fear of hell?

first for first,it was their perspective not Jesus, and it wasn't Christianity, was Catholic Church, for what I remenber Catholic and Ortodox Church was made in the same time, and Ortodox never pursue people and never obligate them to convert or burn witch (thought it was) or jewish or islam or protestant.

S.Paul made for everyone the catholic (from what I've heard),not with intention to do this kind of stuff, the new chiefs (after the other S.Peter ,S.Paul,S. John died) made this up in Midieval Age.

Christianity is a movement,not a religion.

isn't catholicism one of many branches of christianity? but that's besides the point. i have a problem with almost every religion. i just pointed out christianity since that's the topic of this thread.

Then follow on your own way, with your thouths of life and point of view.

Well I do in my own way for exemple,on my own point of view, politically or in law (whatever) I'm catholic, but I don' follow catholicism.

People should do with their own point of views.

i definitely follow my own ideas. i do take in consideration of what others think and if it's interesting, i'll listen. my only beef is with the fervent ones who try to convert others to their religion and say theirs' is the correct one. people can believe whatever they wanna believe. just don't force it on others.

agreed with no forcing others.

wut do u say if they werent forcing but juzt telling u bout their beliefs? uhm, i think it's bcoz they care so they forced u on the right way?
if u dont agree, it's okay but, dont say any wrong things bout their beliefs bcoz u know nothing about it-know wut, it's annoying >.

Quote: i definitely follow my own ideas. i do take in consideration of what others think and if it's interesting, i'll listen.

we dont follow Christianity just bcoz it looks 'interesting'..omg

then tell me, how come there are a variety of christian subcategories: protestent, catholicism, lutheran, etc? catholics are still christians yet they committed several atrocites: witch burnings, spanish inquisition... i wouldn't be surprised if they even backed up the axis powers in world war 2. not the catholics but the vatican themselves.

Sometimes, I "Try" to follow these threads and in the long run fail to understand their purpose.
You know, getting your head scrambled by all of these different religions is just a big waste of time.
I simply follow what is commonly referred to as the gut feeling.
Simply put, just go with whatever will NOT get you in trouble, that's it.

BTW, I hink that the ten commandments are basically good.
I mean, none of them are bad, that I can think of.

As for Religions, again I just don't understand most of them.
I mean, what is their purpose anyway?
At first I thought it was to help others find he path to true peace, now I just think they're just looking for peolpe to follow "THEIR" way of thinking, not that of our creator.

I think I should stop, trying to make a point will just end up hurting my head.

Quote: then tell me, how come there are a variety of christian subcategories: protestent, catholicism, lutheran, etc?

christian protestan is the rite one :P first there was catholic, but bcoz those pastors at that time were selling a thing for amnesty, so some of them couldnt follow it. they began to protest. that's how christian protestan started

so protestants started out as a bunch of whiny protesters? (don't take it seriously, just my usual bit of sarcasm)religions exist because some/most people need to believe or have faith in something that good things will happen in the afterlife. kind of like lying to themselves when bad things happen and something good can come out of it. overly optimistic views but i guess it's somewhat better than being pessimistic/cynical. personally, i'd rather be pessimistic and have a good surprise than be disappointed.

It's not like pessimism doesn't have its reprecussions...
http://www.livescience.com/health/041101_optimist_heart.html
Of course if you're pessimistic you won't expect an afterlife anyways...
I hate it when people try to "play it safe" just to be right, I kind of find non-risk takers to be a little annoying but I can definitely understand that people don't wish to experience failure.

Unless you consider people facing up to a huge web spread across Europe known as "the Church" who was quite corrupt at the time and try to reduce them to the image of a squabbly child as a "whiny protester" than yes. I think religions exist because of man's natural curiosity. Man has tried and is still trying to answer the age old question of the meaning of existence, or what the truth is, I think lying to yourself is denying that question exist still exist. I personally do believe that a higher meaning exist, and I'm not willing conclude that it is to lay down and die without atleast trying to figure out this "higher meaning" It's not that I'm Christian because I'm afraid of the afterlife, It's because I want to know more about it.

Quote: religions exist because some/most people need to believe or have faith in something that good things will happen in the afterlife.

well that's ur opinion. we believe bcoz we know God's REALLY exist. i know a lot of people who r used by God. they can speak in God's language-although they never heard about it before. they can spread their beliefs w/ self-confident bcoz God always lead them. n they have a power to heal sick people-like one of my friend's family, he's still 7 yrz old but he can heal people. my friend told me that one night, when he wanted to sleep-but couldnt- his doll hold his legs with a knife on its hand. he tried to pray, soon the doll released him. that's the power of against the devil ^^

i know it's just an opinion. i'm arguing for the sake of the debate. and i know negative feelings have negative effects on the body. i took psychology (interesting class by the way, i recommend it) and i don't play safe. if i did, i never would be in the army or be living my life in such a reckless way on my personal time. and it's nice that some people have something to believe in. and curiosity isn't a bad thing. i'm pretty curious myself. that's why i've been reading on a lot about different things. i've experienced a lot of failures and i don't care if i fail or not. shit happens. no doubt about it. i just rather believe that god doesn't do anything but spectate. only man can save themselves. and i seriously doubt there are demon possessed dolls out there or people who can heal others through extraordinary means...
