Anime is so GOOD! >_< the american cartoon can be funny but, I don't like the drawings in american cartoon. That's it^^

Anime is better cause it has more expressions and more details compare to american cartoons~ which make me loves anime :)

more detail, better art, better animation, better storylines, more character depth, way better soundtracks *BGM alone runs anything seen in american cartoons. I honestly believe America can get better if they approach the media seriously and stop making animation just for kids- avatar is the first solid attempt ive seen in years. I think beowulf was a solid attempt as well even though it wasn't the best one. Bt ye, thats what separates the two.

Quote by DarthTofuA year after posting on this thread... I feel the need to defend American uh... entertainment art. Not really animation in particular.

Anime is so... generic. American animation is also generic. There's good ones in both, and it's too hard to say which is really better due to cultural differences, style, and personal preferences. Really, all this talk is subjective. There's probably someone out there that prefers Superman 64 to Ocarina of Time or something.

I mean, take comics. Calvin and Hobbes is a newspaper strip, yet it's definitely quality work. The friendship between the two titular characters is so touching and I've felt more emotion from that than any anime ever.
If any of you have ever read Flight, it's probably the greatest collection of comics ever, deeply imaginative with richly detailed art. Talent isn't completely empty stateside, y'know?

Ah but the thread is a comparison of cartoons and anime not manga and comics. If it was the case that manga and comics were included in the original question then I'd have been less harsh in my overall comparison [although most of the better comics are written by people from the UK: Sandman, Hellblazer, Transmetropolitan, and Preacher being examples]. /threadjack

I like anime better because the seiyuu (hope I spelled that correctly) for anime seem to be more into the making the anime. To me, the voice actors of cartoons don't express the emotions of the characters well enough. The voice actors seem to have very dull voice acting and they don't seem all that excited about the cartoon, unlike in the animes.

How japanese animation better than american cartoons?
is very simple, basically like this, is there a american cartoon with a story when a girl disguises as guy and doesn't care with appearances, there a cartoon american about details in sports? no it doesn't, and more, the drawings and characters and story are more appealing and better than the americans, movements are better, even in some american cartoons, they have some japanese working there,so some americans cartoons are good.

I don't really want to make any overt comparisons. I like anime. I also like American animation.

I do not, however, like the way many of you are collectively shitting all over non-Japanese animation for not being Japanese. You can rag on Disney all you want, but some of the stuff they put out in the past was groundbreaking material, which they remain to this day. They've also put out some of the most memorable characters ever caught on cel, like Donald, Mickey and Goofy, characters who entertained many of us for years on end. For some of the greatest from Japan, companies like Disney has been an inspiration.

And yes, there's also WB cartoons -- not only the classics, but also Animaniacs, a modern animation actually featuring clever comedy for the most part. Some of you also mentioned Simpsons and Futurama, another two titles that has stood the test of time -- especially Simpsons, who'se stories and characterisations stand up well alongside the best anime has to offer. I could also mention other greats, like Tom & Jerry, various Don Bluth titles, Peanuts. You people DO know who Charlie Brown is, right?

Now, I'm an anime fan too -- I've been privvy to some amazing works from Japan, I'm certainly not arguing that, and I'm very glad I got to see/purchase them -- but even Japan has certainly done their parts in churning out copious amounts of shit in animated form, and many of you who've posted here seriously needs to pull your heads down from the clouds and see that for yourselves.

It's pretty simple... basically, Japanese Animation has a lot better drawings, storyline, originality and of course animation. And what proves that is the constant Anime rip-off attempts you see in nowadays's American cartoons.

@travellerofworlds - Ohayoo nee-chan ^^

there are a lot of good american cartoons, but anime is just like....they express better ideas, feelings and have better histories...and actually japanese people draw better than us xDD

Better animation and drawings. And cooler storyline or a variety of different story lines.

well anime is much better than american cartoons because anime has a better art/more cute for me
than american cartoons.

please, u just make the biggest error in your life comparin Anime, with USA Cartoons.

those are 2 branck apart.

1rst Japan animation has it all, cool character and animation, and the best of all cool stories, and develpment, and it can come in a great variety of genres.

each time that i try to watch a cartoon for example in Cartoon Network i get depressed for all that sickness and stupidity that can rise from a writer's hand, and the so lame drawing, and the stupid stories.

althought, i have encounter to find Avatar: The last airbender, to me such and quite great, with magnificent animation, as great story and character development.

but still, Japanese anime is better.

i think the japanese storylines are better.

Quote by TeoAmagariFirst of all I would say that Anime is better than american cartoons because of the real life it depicts...emotions, troubles, ups and downs. It in many cases I believe reflects the human spirit of many different types of people.

i' very agree about what u say!^^i will think like that coz japanese anime are very real, full with emotion, and the graphic are great!

I think Japaneses Animes is %100 better then American Cartoons, why? the art is well made... not some sketch of ball with two eyes :/ .. the story is more of a real life or fantasy and it always have something new.. the cartoon is all 'bout jokes and silly stuff that repeat itself -sighs-.. I'll stop at that.

With most American and/or Western Style cartoons, it always seems to focus on one particular genre: Comedy. I am not against Westerns-tyle animation in any way whatsoever, but it seems that the only genre that the West focuses on is stuff designed to make you laugh. Comedy thrives in this part of the world, when other genres like drama, romance, horror and action are a rarity.
But when it comes to anime, the possibilities are just limitless - and there is always going to be something for everybody supporting any genre whether it be comedy, drama, action, horror, romance, factual and so-on.
Another thing about anime is that a lot of anime movies and/or TV shows have rather complex plots and story lines. Some shows even make people learn things about Japanese culture/way of life, which helps to attract more harmony among the people in this world who follow it.
In my opinion, there is no right or wrong to say which style of animation is better - whether Japanese or American, but anime style animation will always allow a lot more options for people of any age, race, religion or culture.

When it comes to anime, there are no limits.

i think what makes the anime better than american cartoons is their storyline. sometimes an anime can make us sad, happy or angry. for american cartoon, they don't very much have this kind of elements.

Quote by JustinusThe target audience of American cartoons is only children while the target audience of anime is every age and gender.

i'm also agree about it. just look how many anime has been adapted to real life action, but it's really rare to see american cartoon adapted to real life action

Many people have said about anime aiming at a larger audience and having more courage and creativity (on average) than American cartoons, well, I'd just like to add this.

It's a little thing I call the "language barrier theory". I watch anime in the original format but with provided English fansubs. This language barrier acts in two especially important ways:

1. blunts the potential impact of bad dialogue. I can still get a general idea of what they're saying. If the line was in English and it sounded horrible, it would induce cringing or disbelief at the writers' stupidity. So, basically, there are no truly bad lines in anime.
2. makes sure that all the best parts of dialogue still crush with a maximum impact. For example, I still have several lines from Neon Genesis Evangelion burned into my brain (like the "You won't die... because I'll protect you" exchange, the T-scene of episode 22, the end of episode 26). Same with Elfen Lied (though I can't name any off the top of my head now), Akira ("Tetsuoooo! Kanedaaaa!" immediately springs to mind), Perfect Blue (the xeroxed "Traitor" still stands undiminished in its creepiness).

And shifting gears for a second, I'd like to take this opportunity to offer my view on voice acting in both instances. Yes, American cartoons mostly dull me to the bone (some don't). But seiyuus to commonly make the mistake of slipping into ridiculous overacting, as if they're trying too hard to emote and coming off as melodramatic and insincere as a result. Too often I've been annoyed by the common sight of some guy talking about the way he likes some girl in an exaggerated, high tone that sounds like his inner wank's about to explode with a vengeance. Shit, even Evangelion (looking at you, Asuka) and Elfen Lied (chill out already, Yuka), two of my most favorite series, have this problem every now and then.

And one last shift of gears. The common archetype of girls in anime pisses me off. Too many act like high-strung, ear-shattering, nerve-wracking, annoying PMS-infected bitches. It's like someone's nails against a chalkboard in my brain. Worst cases: Asuka, damn near everybody besides Shinobu in LH. This is probably why I enjoy episode 22 of NGE so much. If I live through more chalkboardy cunts, I'll probably turn to misogyny.

In almost every aspect i can think of... LOL- well, it's not that American cartoon isn't good. It's just that anime is TOO brilliant.
i think whatever quality you wish to see in an animation, if you can find it in some American cartoon, you can find it in anime as well. Perhaps most people who doesn't know about anime would prefer cartoon is that because they're more used to it. For anime, i think you still need to get used to its concept and know that this is not just a cartoon.

i think Japanese animes is better than American animes because American animes leave some things out.

intelligence :D

1) Anime is not better than anything. It is a opinion so I will not argue any point.
2) Anime is exotic and it is my belief that is why the youth of today seems to be flocking to it. Most parents can't understand teen angst but even less can understand japanese.

I like both for their weaknesses and their strong suits.

well, american toons have a good comics but a lot of "latex-heroes" that sucks me XDD that's horrible..... also a lot of toons are exploitations of originals comics in others parallels lives or universes or whatever.

however not all of american toons are heroes :P Sin city like me a lot and 300 or simpson family guy........funny acid series are great :P xD

anime are more ingenious and the history it's more better in general and, well, I love the drawing :P

The love don't understand about best or worst xD
