this is a rough recipe for those who would like to try to make okonomiyaki!
^^
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup all purpose flour
3/4 cup soup stock (dashi)
1 egg
1/4 of a small cabbage
For Toppings: Thinly sliced pork or beef,
Squid, prawns? mushrooms? bacon (whatever you like!) ^^
Katsuo-bushi (dried bonito flakes)
Sakura-ebi (dried shrimps)
Ao-nori (green seaweed)
Okonomiyaki sauce (tonkatsu sauce is ok too! ^^)
Okonomiyaki mayonnaise (normal mayonnaise is ok too!)
PREPARATION:
Cut the cabbage into very thin slices. Beat an egg in a bowl and add dashi soup
stock or water in it. Add flour in the bowl and mix well. Combine sliced cabbage
in the flour mixture. Fry meat/squid/shrimps (your choice of toppings) in an
electric cooking pan or a frying pan. Pour the flour mixture over the toppings
in the pan.(Make a couple pan cakes.) Cook a few minutes and flip pancakes and
cook for a few more minutes. Put okonomiyaki sauce and mayonnaise on top of the
okonomiyaki. Sprinkle katsuobushi flakes, and aonori on top.
Hope that someone can try and enjoy okonomiyaki! ^^
wow that's a very detailed recipe! i've tried them before... doesn't taste much
different from like fried eggs to me.. not a very big fan of it.. but it's not
bad i guess..
I actually had some in Japan. During a group trip to Japan last year, one of our
stops was in Hiroshima. Needless to say, the morning sightseeing left us pretty
bummed, but afterwards we had lunch at a okonomiyaki restaurant. (Apparently
Hiroshima is renowned for its okonomiyaki.) There, they gave you prepared
okonomiyaki that you cooked and flipped yourself on a skillet on the table, and
of course you had your sauces. I ate three by myself!
I heard that okonomiyaki is considered the "Japanese pancake". Is
there any truth to this?

Singapore is call a food paradise, we do have jap food around... For
okonomiyaki, i finally get to taste it this year... We have some fair that sell
local tradition food and some jap food but you will only get that occasionally,
cuz the fair wll only last for a few days and change to other areas... I tink
okonomiyaki is nice, but i do not knw whether it`s the same as jap, it`s make of
flour some meat for topping and alot of vegetables! Izzit it?
I love 'em! Just had one for breakfast!
I have seen okonomiyaki only in Anime or Mangas so I don't ever eat okonomiyaki, why in Italy there aren't Japan's foods?
Haven't had a chance to try them yet, but i hear they're really good.
