Hi everyone!

For a long time, I loved a very special Anime Character: Rei Ayanami. But time has passed by and I've watched tons of new series, but without a girl that strikes me as she did.
But watching Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu, I became perplexed: The deepness, complexity and charm of Nagato Yuki blew me away.

Is Nagato Yuki the Ayanami Rei of this century? I think she isn't. Their development is quite similar but subtly (or meybe deeply) different, and many other things to consider:

Rei Ayanami: The silent, charming and misterious girl. A true icon. She has some advantage because of the inmeasurable popularity she gained across the years. She is pretty, inteligent and not very talkative. But she shows her emotions and her charm in the right places and moments. Another point to her favor: red eyes and snow white skin. A beautifully designed non-human girl with a very interesting history and a tragic existence.

Nagato Yuki: The silent girl with the breathtaking voice and the answer to every enigma. She may be relatively new in anime (compared with Rei), but she is also extremely popular. Why? She has the looks: little girl, brutally well designed, beautiful in every aspect, and that voice. She has an explanation for almost everything, but doesn't talk too much. She evolves subtly, but nicely. A beautiful girl with a mesmerizing voice, and incredible background and a very melancholic existence.

I guess i'd have to watch Susumiya Haruhi first ._.
But i never found Rei that special, i mean she is, obviously, very memorable, i had that with shinji, then years passed and never felt that way, i love Evangelion as whole, but i never found my self fascinated with a character in particular, except for shinji, cause i deepply identified with him, maybe that happened to you with Rei.

now ive re-seen evangelion and now i truly apreciate Rei, beautiful character, and i also watched Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu and im kinda in love with Nagato xD, so i go with Nagaot Yuki <3. Love her to death

somehow i see nagato as a moe~ character compared to rei which to me is more original. i love nagato's character but i dont think any character can replace rei.

I preffer Rei.
Seeing this draw, I like the expression and the saw of her eyes, also the colors and the spirit put by the creators in the anime serie.

I love both series and the girls are awesome. I have to go with Yuki though, your favorite quite alien who can kick your ass in any situation =P

Ayanami's a far more beautiful and a far deeper character, with far more consequent issues, than Nagato.

Nagato is a walking library far from this planet, Rei is an artificial being but far more perfect in some aspects than humans. Both girls can break my PS3 and apologize in their most timid manner and still couldn't be really angry with them. I might even go as far as saying "It was my fault that it was in your way sorry" Comparison is hard almost incomprehensable but that's the reason the mind and heart are separated. I listen to my heart sometimes I fear it, so I'd go with Nagato because during the series only my heart was the one she touched. Rei had made me think, especially towards the ending.... Put that gun down Rei I'm sorry I know! blame Gainax! Tee hee

Ayanami used to be a groundbreaking character, but now she's just another silent type.

Nagato's character still has room for development, the second season, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya has yet to come out, and I believe Nagato has a much larger role in this one.

Ayanami is just a damned silent character. And her personality evolution seems stupidly forced most of the times. WTH? Does she cry all of a sudden, after more than 15 episodes of practically not caring about anything in particular?

Nagato at least seems more like a character which is more consistant with herself. If she's had any evolution in her personality (hardly noticeable), those are very discret and probably will appear gradually.

Even if she's not my favorite Haruhi character, Nagato wins this.
