well im a little bit a of both reserved and open like... i'll
tell my friends about anime and stuff if they are interested (and some frds who
are not lol) but i won't tell someone i just met or someone im not very close to
about me being an anime freak! hehehehehe
I do not see a problem with being an anime fan. It is a hobby and that is that.
I do not walk around screaming that I am an anime fan but if someone brings up
the topic, I happily talk about it.
I am very openend about it, All of my display pics on msn involved something
from anime, plus im not ashamed to say that anime is better than some of the
shit hollywood is coming up with these days. Howver i always get the excuse dat
"thats stupid cartoons" which really get me pissed and riled
up........ so i end up debating lol
The last thing I'm gonna do is wear a billboard that says: "Anime fan -
come here for an hour long lecture"
All right, thats exaggerated. If an
anime based topic crops up in the discussion, I might mention that I'm a fan in
the hope that the other person is as well. Otherwise if its not part of the
topic I don't mention it. I'm not ashamed of being a fan, but nor am I a
missionary. If you like it you like it, if not you don't.
My friends are all fans to a degree, but even then, if its not topic related its
not part of the discussion. We might, in the middle of the discussion say
something like, "just like [insert anime character] in [insert anime
title]" or "then you just [insert memorable act] on his ass".
But when I meet someone for the firts time I do NOT ask "Are you an anime
fan - I need to know so I can decide whether to like you or not"
How open I am about being a fan of Japanese animation...? To be honest, it
depends on the company I have at the moment; for example, I'm pretty open with
my friends, since we're all otakus , but they
are sick of me saying "Oh, he looks/reminds me of my crush!"
*Self-depreciating laugh.* If someone asks me a question, like "What got
you into anime?" I'll answer truthfully; for me, it's the storylines, as
well as the detail to artwork. It's beautiful.
...Though, I'm not sure about hentai series... anime always gets a bad
reputation from a non-fan just because their first exposure to anime may have
been something perverted. Rather sadening, when you have to debate/defend your
stance on why you like anime, huh?
*Looks up.* Woah, this turned out longer than expected; yikes! .
Thanks for bringing up the topic; very interesting!
Hmm.. Well, it's not like I go about holding a sig saying "ANIME
OTAKU!". I mean, if the topic comes up, I'll mention it! I'm not ashamed of
being a fan or anything. =P
ATM, i don't think so. but i remember a few years ago, i was open about, maybe
too open and obseesed with it. i remember doing 2 french projects and 1 medical
studies project in high school with ALL the pictures being from anime of some
sort. lol.
the best one was when i had a picture that showed about a medical procedure of
what would happen if you have like a bug bite or something. i remember using a
picture of Abrume Shino from Naruto, he's the bug guy for those of you who dont'
know who i'm talking about, with a huge-ass fly coming like right out of his
arm. lol.
People at my school thing it's childish but at the same time a lot of people at
my school are closet anime freaks. Nevertheless, I'm pretty open about it,
myself.
hmm...well, if someone asks if I like anime, I tell them I am, even if they
don't like it. But I try not to look obsessed with it (even though I am) because
I don't want to scare them off.
Others have found my obsession by just watching me draw in classes and such.
They'll tell me I'm really good and they'll say, "Are you really into that
kind of cartoon stuff?" and I'll reply "It's not really a cartoon, but
yeah."
So I guess I'm a bit of both. I don't want people to think I'm a nerd or
whatever, but denying I don't like it would only be hiding myself from them,
which isn't what I want, either.
Yes, I'm open and unapologetic about it. I'm over giving a fig about what most
people think of me. It also helps that I'm a rational person who can speak
intelligently on many subjects, not a stereotypical anime fan.
The way I see it, my seeming normalcy challenges those who meet me to change
their opinions about anime - and those who watch it - more than any shrieking
catgirl would.
Well, I'm a pretty reclusive person as it is, so I am not really open with any
of my interests.
I have a very intrapersonal relationship with anime, as my friends see it as
kind of "sissy," and I have yet to meet a person face-to-face who
shares my passion for the art of japanese animation, which is pretty
sad;_;
Nevertheless, I am very passionate about it, as I am with all my interests
(sports, music, movies, etc.) I just dont go around shouting about it, I guess,
is all.
I have nothing to worry about being an anime fan is great, no madder who is
there be my parents company or friends I've just met. I am very open about the
anime shows I have watched, not to mention, I create am not distributing yet, my
own manga. So I do mind to show my friends/family it.
I only talk about anime if I know the person is an anime fan. No point speaking
to someone who doesn't know anything about anime at all, or even worse, someone
who calls anime "cartoons". That just pisses me off.
I wouldn't mind being open about it, but my anime taste tends to differ from
others. Most of the people whom I know like anime are Naruto and Bleach fans,
but I'm not one, so I haven't got much to talk to them about...
Haha... I've been pretty open about the fact that I'm who I am, some kid who has
taste for anime... Haha.. But if the person opposite me that I'm talking to
isn't, then I don't really raise the topic... There are a million things in this
world you can talk about. I know my anime well, but I won't be in my "anime
zone" until I know for sure that the opposite party is an anime fan
too.
My anime taste differs from the main group too.. I mean, many of my friends have
seen RahXephon, Bleach, Naruto, Full Metal Alchemist, but I haven't really
devoted time to these ones since I haven't had the time nor do I hold much
interest.. Though FMA was watched up to episode 30-ish... But I'm usually one
who has others in mind, hehe...
Its great to show you have an interest in something (I consider collecting anime
as my hobby, mind you) so in a way, I just watch stuff here and there for fun
haha.. But just don't go to the point where people think you're obsessed with
the whole idea of anime... haha.. So I'm pretty open, but not too open
Im 50:50.
Of course im open to those who are also interested in anime. Then some others i
told and some other found out. Some i havnt told and still dont know. Its not
like I proudly speak to anyone about anime and so on, in fact its rather
embarresing. Im not quite sure how to cotegorize myself.

I dont care what people think about anime. Its there opinion. i cant change their mind
Um... is anime something to be ashamed of?

Hmmm depends who I'm with lol. With my anime-fan friends, yea sure. With my friends who aren't, I'll keep it to myself.

i don't really care ... all my friends know i'm japan-crazed.
my friends know I'm an anime fan.. I only talk about anime with friends who are interested of anime because some of my friends can't relate to anime..

My friends know i love those "chinese cartoones".I sometimes argue with them because they don't like animes, but i'm proud of beeing an anime fan:):):)

Let me preface this by saying I'm 33 years old.
Yes, I'm open and unapologetic about it. I'm over giving a fig about what most people think of me. It also helps that I'm a rational person who can speak intelligently on many subjects, not a stereotypical anime fan.

I'm opened about being an anime fan as well. I just don't see what's wrong with showing how much you love something.
