THAT'S RIGHT! We're having a project at CL! The theme is "what I did for my summer vacation." Did you ever have to write one of those essays in school? *thumbs through essays from 2nd-6th grades* If not, don't worry, it's pretty self explanitory.

So, here are the requirements:

1. You can submit both wallpapers and vectors
2. You can submit as many as you want
3. All work must feature vacation-themed artwork
--AND--
4. SOMEWHERE ON YOUR WORK MUST BE A LITTLE ESSAY ABOUT WHAT YOU DID ON YOUR SUMMER VACATION!

Now, there are lots of ways to do this. You could pick a character and wall/vector a vacation scene and put some text on the wall that says "I'm Sakura Kinomoto, and this is me at the water park" or you could do a scene from first person, as if YOU were the character in the image, like "For my summer vacation I went to Tahiti but when I woke up on the beach I was missing my bathing suit." How much or how little text is up to you, but it must include the words "on my summer vacation" and must be more than just the title of the piece. Ex: if the title of your wall is "Summer Sun" you can't just put "Summer Sun--What I did on my summer vacation" you'd need to do something along the lines of "Laying out in the sun and working on my tan--that's what I did on my summer vacation." How and where you position the text is up to you. Get creative! This is one arena where you could do something cutesy without ruining your reputation as a serious artist.

Okay, more details:

--post your art in the CL guestbook and put in your post that it's a submission for the project
--entries will be accepted until 8/31/08
--entries will be posted on the group page in the "contests" section
--this should be obvious, but you must follow the MT rules for your artwork
--if we get a lot of good entries and there is interest, I'll host a gallery online of just our project pieces

Some suggestions for vacation scenes:
the beach
an amusement park
camping
picnicking
horse-back riding
boating
sun bathing
partying
sleeping (my fav summer activity)
swimming
hanging with friends
visiting family
touring different places (foreign countries, cities, museums, etc)
--really, if you think it's something you would do on summer vacation, it's probably good. If you're unsure just ask. I'm going to have to say that if snow is the main focus of the activity, it's not qualified for the project.

This inevitably comes up: you can use a piece in this project that you're using in another project or contest.

Would abstract or surreal pieces work? I mean, that's the kind of style I usually work in. I've never really vectored or walled any "scene-like" pictures.

I'm gonna participate, but somewhere around May/June (my holidays aren't until August so it would be a bit to late ). Nice theme (oh and I never had that kind of essay - even as a kid , but I get the idea)

I've written so many of those kinds of essays... I even did one last semester, and I'm in college This contest sounds like a lot of fun!

By the way, do we have to depict something that we actually did on summer vacation? Or just any summer vacation activity that we want? Because I probably won't do anything in the summer (except maybe the sleeping part ).

Anything summery or vacationy, it doesn't have to be something you've actually done.

I still have 4 more weeks until I have 2 weeks break and then 10 more weeks until summer vacation!
