An anime fan until retirement...

General Anime & Manga Talk

This is purely hypothetical, but can any of you imagine yourself still being an anime fan at the age of 65? Assuming that anime and manga will still exist and that both haven't quite taken over the world yet (though they might have risen quite a bit in popularity in the future, lol), is it possible for any of you to remain attached to the fandom at such an age?

It's hard to really see myself still holding on to a few of my DVDs and manga past mid-life. I'm sure that I'll probably remain a fan for at least a decade or so, seeing as I still have ample room for the stuff in my life. But to see myself retire in forty more years and watch anime with the same zeal I have now is really tough to do.

For right now though, I'll just enjoy the ride and continue to enjoy anime and manga. It may be surprising to see how long I might last with the hobby!

I honestly can't say. I'd say hypothetically if there were no major life changes, IE marriage or health problems, it's entirely possible that I would. However, I've already found myself going into massive anime burnout where I barely consume any at all and I'd see that only getting worse as maybe my interests and tastes changed as I aged.

I have to think though that anime will be much like music. When you're young, you always say you'll keep up with the most current music. But as you age you find it hard to get into something you are unfamiliar with. So as anime evolves I may find myself attached to what made anime great for me, making me fall out of it entirely.

I don't really have a problem seeing myself still enjoying anime for that long and longer; I don't plan on giving up my book collection or my movie collection upon passing middle age, after all. I don't really see why my favorite anime would be any different. To me, stories are stories, and I like the ones I like, regardless of the medium they are presented in. The anime and manga I love I love because of the content, not because they're anime and manga.

If there ever comes a point in my life when I need to give up all forms of fictional entertainment (books, movies, TV, plays, and so on) then I suppose I'd stop watching anime and reading manga as well. I don't really see this happening any time in the forseeable future. Then again, I'm addicted to storytelling in any form; I think stories are just about as nescessary to me as food, so maybe it's different for other people.
:)

I don't have problems too. My mother is an anime fan, and she has 57... xD
Plus, I use anime for my own music classes... I have students that are anime fans too

Never again shall i suffer without anime to guide my way through this wretched existence. girlfriend, wife, girlfriend, whoever or whatever will convert or die. No exceptions.

Given how hectic life can get these days, I don't think I would have the time and energy to be a fan of anything as i grow older, like maybe past the age of 30, 35? I don't think I would have the chance to retire either..

Yeah it's a good chance that I will be one , I can't give up anime just because I'm old or there's a major life change that will happen for me

I won't retire of being a fan unil I die.

I won't grow out of anime regardless of age. I really don't pay attention to whether or not its a children's anime or not if its entertaining I'll watch. I've sat down watched an episode of Lucky Star, then Elfen Lied, and finished it off with Shugo Chara(I feel a small amount of shame watching some parts of it though) and then I'll go watch some anime of a completely different genre. Anime is anime and nothing else, but anime to me.
I will come back as a ghost and watch anime over people's shoulders.

i never want to...

65? Make it past 80.

Otaku forever.

nahh dont care as long as my life is happy that`s all

i think it's fine :D

That won't be a problem. I'm gonna be an anime fan until I die.
My life is happier because of anime.
