Quote by cerealjoeWhy 2012 exactly? It is because of the horror that will be the London Olympic Games (yes, I was for Paris and I'm still upset that London won). I personally like 2014 much better as a date for a disaster to happen...

Heck it's like the 1999 funny business, that's just lots and lots and lots of crappety crap. Alas, it would have been fun otherwise.

LOL.

I'm not sure how to think about it. It seems... unrealistic, but at the same time, I can't just ignore an event that could kill all humans, etc.

i suppose that it could all end....but i dont really care either way

lol whatever happens, happens, eh.

Lol im saying its a hype because....
Mayan, they havent predicted anything really significant yet =p

For starters, why is 2012 a special year? What about 2020 or 2031...
Except for that, I don't think the Earth will suffer major changes. I really don't think we'll have flying cars or flats on the Moon by then... it's just 4 years ahead.
So... maybe some countries will come up with useless inventions, like robots or stuff.... Like, 'no offense dudes, but we're facing global warming here... the Earth will perish in the next hundreds of years or less with or without your beloved robots'.
My vote goes for 'nothing!'

As for me, I find the idea that the world will just end because some ancient civilisation or someone with prophetic abilities said so in the past extremely laughable. I mean... yeah, that has worked SO well up until now, hasn't it?

Is there a page where someone has collected other supposed end-of-the-world dates that we've now passed? Because I'm pretty sure there has been quite a few of those by now.

Don't they have a new date for 2038 or something like that and that's supposed to be the new Y2K bug? And by the Old Testament we're close to the end too... man, that's gotta be one of the largest pages on the intrawebs if it exists, lots and lots of dates.

Personally, I think something big will happen. Whether or not it s the end of the world is another thing. No one can know for sure.

It'd be interesting if something would happen on that year though.
But still, if we are to compare this with the previous apocalyptic predictions that are obviously false, this might be just one of them.

I think it's BS that the world's gonna end in 2012. They make up some lame excuses for it. I'd say the least the world is gonna survive is before 2050.

If you mean by the Mayan calendar...nah...

It might be that they were eradicated when they do the date to that date...

And...Nostradamus' 2000 prediction didn't come true...so no worries...

just hope that it will still be peaceful

not worried at all. hopefully, i won't be stupid enough to reenlist and be stuck in the army longer than intended. X3

why 2012?

I believe it's gonna be a funny year. Moreover, if I'm not mistaking, I believe that the end was december 21st, I wodner if people are still gonna buy gifts for the holiday.

2012.. there will be robots everywhere. n comp/laptop using touchscreen n sound. at least that's how Bill Gates thought

Actually it did. Soon after a plane hit the world trade center. (also a Nostradamus
predicted incident) and the US starts World War III (the Iraq war and middle east)
It's come down to the fact that many religious and prophet incidents are slowly happening
one by one. In truth The 'end of days' prophecies wont happen overnight. More like, over
a large span of time. I'd say, give it another few decades and something will have happened.
I know by 2020 the US won't be there anymore. Somebody will have gotten sick of the BS
it's govt. gives and just eradicated it. Right now, the US is defenseless. Over 95% of it's
military are outside the states fighting in foreign countries. So it's bound to happen.

Personally, I won't be around to watch.

thinking about this just scares me cause i dont wanna die like that.
They say lots of crap will happen that year....do i believe probably not but i just dont want to think about it.
also they said the world would end in 2000 but did it....no.
i just think the pollution will rise eventually then people die cause of the heat and stuff.(but thats over thousands and hundreds of years)
another way they thought we'd all perish is the sun slowly sucking us up when the planets align, but c'mon people this all won't happen overnight and we might have a chance to slow down the process or even prevent it^^
but like i said i hate thinking about it...i like to think on the positive side.

Come on... Why's everybody talking about doomsday or something scary?
For me though, 2012 Olympic will be held in London, and if there's something makes me worry, that is, whether my country will grab any gold medal or not...

Nostradamus never predicted 9/11. In fact the quatrans (Centuries X, quatran 72) which you refer to were written as part of a hoax following the attacks.

Quote: and the US starts World War III....

Arguable the 3rd World War came and went. Some scholars believe that WWIII was actually the Cold War. Who exactly started it? One could argue it was the Soviets with their land grab in the years immediately after Germany's defeat to the Allies. Others could argue it was us for starting the arms race by creating nuclear weapons. Regardless, all of that ended with the collapse of the Soviet Union two decades ago. The conflict between The West; the embodiment of globalization, and Fundamental Islamist; A traditionalist society, could be regarded as the Fourth World War.

With regard to the conflict between the West and radical Islamist, this was inevitable. European Colonization of the Middle East, contemptuously dividing up Muslim world instilled shame onto Islamic society. American economic policies up till now have not improved the situation in the Middle East. As a result we have a embittered triumphalist society who's fundamentalist thinkers sees globalization as a threat against Islam. The acts of terrorism against the West are a reaction to globalism.

Now to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. We did no start the sequence of events that lead to war as much as you would like to believe. Osama Bin Lauden, who is believed to have orchestrated the 9/11 attacks was counting on Our reaction and expecting us to invade Afghanistan. Indirectly, the Second Persian Gulf war was the unforseen consequence of Bin Lauden's plan.

Sure with lots of time coincidence and happenstance will surely prove just about any doomsday prophecy.

And how do you know that in less than a generation the US will cease to be? What concrete proof to you possess that back that claim? With regard to our defense Almost 40% of our military strength is based CONUS or within US territory.
Between 30 and 35 percent of Our military is deployed worldwide. And only half of deployed forces are taking part in the conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan. An lets not forget the millions of US citizens that have small arms (beit a pistol or .50 caliber rifle). Is a decline of the United States as we know it today inevitable? perhaps. But such a decline will not be for decades or perhaps a few centuries. In the short term I would wager that even if the my country were no longer a super power by the end of this century the United States will remain a powerful and influential country nonetheless.

nothing will happen but i think the world will change

New cars, A big smile drivng across the moutain, wait whats that... ..A big butt tattoed 2012 (right cheek) falls from the sky then a giant transforming hand counters it then throws it at Detriot the end.
