I want to buy a new game consol, but I'm having trouble deciding which one. It's either an X-BOX 360 or a PS3. Being someone who has only owned Nintendo based systems, I thought I'd ask some other gamers on what they thought the best choice would be. Price isn't a problem, since I'm willing to invest in a good system, but if you have any other reasons why I should buy one opposed to the other let me know. Any comments would be much appreciated :) .

Hmm, well, personally, I would go for the Playstation 3. It is a flexible system with many capabilities. A lot of people usually complain about a lack of games but that is beginning to change. With releases like Warhawk, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Assassin's Creed and future releases such as Haze, Final Fantasy 13 (and FF Versus 13), and God of War 3. You shouldn't forget about the included Blue-Ray player either. There is one problem though, the new releases of the PS3 cannot play previous PS2 games, something happened and Sony had to remove the chip for the backwards compatibility. On the other hand, I'm not a big X-Box fan, but I would fear getting one due to the ridiculous failure rate (33%). Also, the seemingly most popular games for it (Halo 3 and Gears of War) are a bit overrated. Of course, both systems can play in HD, so that's good. Overall, I would pick the PS3, but that's just me...I hoped this helped. =D

I've never had any experience with Microsoft consoles, but I have tried out the Playstation 3 at my brother's house.

The first thing to note is that the cables that connect to the television set is meant for high definition flat screen TVs. So if you don't have one, I am unsure of any other solution than buying a new flat screen TV.

Another interesting note is that the PS3 is relatively compact in terms of width when compared to its bulkier Microsoft counterpart. It's sleek, polished black cover with the silver engravings "PlayStation 3" make it incredibly attractive to look at.

As with the Playstation 2, it has the capacity to be placed sideways and lying down depending on space and storage. Discs are simply slipped into the disc drive much like some of the more advanced laptops rather than having to press a button to eject the disc tray.

The six axis controller is sensitive to movement much like a Wii controller (I am not sure how much more effective though) though it can work as a wireless game pad with the connection cord doubling as a charger.

Playstation 3 Discs use Blue Ray technology, meaning they can store up to 20gb of space as opposed to the conventional 4.7 and 9.6gb DvDs. This means that developers can make larger and more elaborate adventures for the Playstation 3.

you've got a few things wrong sulibres, a blu-ray disc can store up to 50 gigs of data on a dual layer(which can be read by ps3) and a single layer 25gb. a ps3 works fine on a standard TV, but its awesomeness really comes on a HDTV.

and for the choice between ps3/360 you'll have to take a look at what games you want, how much you play online and what other things you want with it (music/blu-ray/pictures/...)

Pretty much what nuhoer suggests: look at the games for both systems and see which ones interest you more.

Of course, if money is not a issue, you could always buy both :)

You obviously have never compared in size a PS3 to a 360. The PS3 is nearly the size of a small computer tower, it's enormous and very loud.

My own personal opinion after having owned a 360 for...almost 2 years now I believe, is it is the way to go. The best games are here, the developers are here, HD-DVD expansion(just as good a quality as a Blu-Ray, who cares about the extra 50 hours of deleted scenes and commentary it adds to movies) and the Marketplace make that system exceptional.

Now the online play is not free, but it's (usually) extremely high quality (not counting recent holiday events). The coolest feature I like is how there is a gamerscore, that way it keeps track of how much of each game you have played and what achievements you have unlocked. Extra way to incite some friendly competition.

I've never owned a PS3, I did own the PS2 and it was exceptional machine also. However I've yet to see a reason to buy the PS3. Graphics are not superior to the 360 like many will lead you to believe, I've seen the screenshots. Sure there might be things that it can do that the 360 can not, but the same can be said for the 360. I believe Sony's delayed release in comparison the the 360 and the lack of must have titles are what are bringing it down. It seems Microsoft is pulling on Sony, what Sony did to Sega in the age of the Dreamcast (kick ass machine also!).

My personal opinion.

I would strongly suggest you steer clear of the Xbox 360. I own one and the games that are exclusive to it are fun. It has a great online interface and is much friendlier to the non-gamer. HOWEVER it is marred with horrible reliability issues. I am personally on my 4th console after having to send mine in three times. They are horribly built machines with the question always being "when" will something go wrong, not "if". If it doesn't outright break on you, it will have disc read errors.

The PS3, I've loved since I got it. It's built with the future in mind as opposed to now. With the advanced Blu-Ray drive, more expandability, easily swappable harddrives that aren't proprietary and much more it is the better system. And when taken pound for pound it is by far the better value.

i would definitley go towards the xbox. i think hd dvd is already dominating blu ray. i also like xbox games alot more than the ps3 games right now. the xbox also has more exclusives than the ps3. i also dont see alot of ps3 exclusive games with alot of hype right now other than final fantasy. i think the xbox is a bit cheaper than the ps3 too.

Note that there are projects running on making a four layered blu-ray disc, increasing its capacity to 100gigs and researchs for a blu-ray disc of 150gigs! so if you're aiming for the future i would advise on ps3 since it will take long time for its Cell chip(cpu) become obsolete since it has 8cores and estimated calculus says that 10,000 Cell chips in parallel has the same process rate as a supercomputer. Because of this huge processing capability, it had to take time for the game producers to adapt and starting making games capable of using at least 75% of Cell chip processing capability and not fear data size constraints(like 4.7gigs of normal dvd's and 8.5 for dual layered) since the actual blu-ray max storage is at 50gigs.

well... since i already seen enourmous critics against 360's reliability, i dont owe either consoles but i'm getting my ps3 on next month and i already played a bunch of games in my friends house and the games that are being released for ps3 right now, most of em are awesome... like CoD4, Warhawk, Ratchet and Clank Future, GranTurismo HD, soon will be released he FFXIII and so on...

so thats what i think...

I should mention that I do intend to purchase a PS3 when games such as Gran Tourismo HD (which may in fact be available on the Xbox 360 since I had read that Polyphonic is no longer in an exclusive Sony deal) and Metal Gear Solid 4 come out.

PS3 for ever.

wow, where do you read your news? on microsoft.com?
blu-ray has a market share over 67% and several exclusive company's of HDDVD went to blu-ray.
trust me, it's just a matter of time when microsoft releases a blu-ray add-on.

geez, the knowledge about consoles is terrible here, the ps3 loud and enormous? man, when I'm playing I forget the whole thing. but instead, when I play on my friends 360 I continously lose my concentration from it's loud noise. seriously, my vacuum is more silent..
and so what xbox has more exclusives, the quality of it is what matters.

PS3 :)

Go for a PS3. I have an XBOX 360 and it has extreme overheating issues. Buy one, and you'll fear the day you get the "3 Red Lights of Death".

if it was me I would go for xbox it's been out longer and the games that are coming out to ps3 are coming out to xbox, they just take a short while longer...of course if you want to listen to tunes and play games then the ps3 is perfert for you, because you are able to download and store music and jam while you play so either system has it's plus as well as their minus...the graphics on xbox isn't as 3d as they are on the ps3 but if that bothers you then chances are you should go with the xbox, like me I have to choose xbox because ps really destroys my eyes, ps2 was worse enough and that seizure like effect, even though it doesn't last long, it's still interesting to experience...and here's another deal...buy the system that has the games you like, I do that all the time

Thank you everyone for your comments and advice. I actually received the PS3 for Christmas this year. :) And I love it.

well i've got both xbox360 and ps3 and i'm telling ya if i'd have to choose i would go with the 360... sure its loud as a vacuum cleaner but the selection of games, that film on demand stuff on XBOXLive and it has sharper textures cuz of the higher ram... plus you can choose to have a hd-dvd player your not forced to have it included ;D

Xbox 360, but the PS3 has a selection of exclusives that are good, but not as good as Halo 3, Gears of War, Mass Effect, and BioShock.

360 hands down, better games, more games and sometimes plays better than the ps3

One thing abaut XB360 is the problem with the "3 Red Lights of Death"... Thats make Microsoft pull back on the list, Let me tell you that i bought one almost 1 year and that problem attack my XB360... >=0000000~~~~~!
The 2 consoles are great because the popularity of the Games but games like Gears of War, BioShock, Lost Planet are launched for Pc to so XB360 dont Have so much Exclusives games like PS3, remenber the PS2 games you never will play on PC God of War, Tekken, Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo...

Take a little research abaut PS2 and old XB like personal TIP. Compares the number of titles that launched to market each well and look at the indisputable victory of the team SONY.

Definately i would choose the 360, and yes i think about everyone i know has had theres brake itself, but between the short 2 weeks you wait for repairs and what you get out of it the rest of the time, its definately worth it. And im not really a FAN BOI of microsoft but it has indefinately better games, Devil May Cry 4 isnt exclusive to PS3 anymore and when they say the PS3 has good titles they are all titles in which are also released on the other systems such as Assassins creed or CoD 4

XBOX360 rules no matter what any one person says

when they were for being thrown both, I twisted for the success of PS3 but nowadays XBOX detonates PS3
more thrown games and exclusive
Live is more developed

If you have the patience and faith, go with the PS3. that's what i did. I was well aware of there not being any games out at the time i got my 60gig last year but i've always been a fan of sony's products and I believe they will do well with this one as well. But i won't try and pursuade u to go PS3, but rather base ur decision on what system has the games u want(current or future releases).
