i make a little background for my next wall, is it good enough or there
something to work on more? i haven't decide who (the chara) will be feature in
this wall. basicly i just bored and make this background to fill my free time. i
used photoshop to make this.
Hm, I think you should desaturate the colors on the arcade a bit, they look
flashy compared to the grass.
Also, maybe you'd like to change the color of some leaves in the trees, they
look a bit too fluorescent.
And as a final advice, make the texture on the stairs less visible (around 50%
opacity and 60% fill).
Good luck!
about the stone tile i'm having a little trouble since it seems i already merge
it with another layer, i still try to find away to edit it. if i can't find a
way it seem i will remade the stone tile again.
It looks much better now, the elements seem to merge with the background more
than before
I now suggest that you add some texture to the poles and arcade, it looks too
shiny and clear.
Sorry for not replying sooner It's a good texture, but I suggest you make it barely visible. After all,
it's the character you want to draw attention to, right?
I agree that the texture needs to be much more subtle. Also, the leaves and
grass are too dull in color, you need to change the saturation. The biggest
thing is that the edges of the trees are really jagged, that's the biggest
thing.
The whole background also looks really flat, which is especially noticeable
considering you've used a series of Torii. I also have a hard time seeing
whether the stone bricks make a road or a series of steps, so unless you're
planning on putting characters in front of them, I'd do something about
that.
Mainly, I'd put some effort into making the background look like more than just
the immediate stuff in front and the mountains far into the distance.
i reduce the texture on the torii, also repair the jagged on the tree. i also
add new color for the grass. for the leaves i want it to look like an autumn
leaves so the color must be brown right? maybe because of that it may looks
dull. to the stair that look flat i try to change that by adding shadow. i cant
change the stair since the layer already merge. unless i remade from scratch.
any idea how to make the backgroud don't look flat anymore?
Um, I suppose it's better now. I still think you should go for a more grey-ish
color for the Torii. After all, it's not that shiny in reality, is it? Also, remove that white glow, it
kind of screams "low quality" (I don't mean this in an offensive
way).
For the grass, I say you should use the other default grass brush you have too.
Here's a very good tutorial which helps a lot: click here.
ok, thx very much for all your feedback. i'm planning to used this background
for an ilustration in my novel, but since it still not good i'm going to ask my
friend to draw the ilustration and used this image as a basic idea what i want
it to be. i'll learn more to make a better background for my own satisfaction
^_^. one last think i want to ask is can photoshop add new default brush for
grass, leaves, etc? if can, where i can download it?
hey :'D i like the darker version more :3 maybe its a little bit too crowded.
and maybe it's better if you could blur (gaussian bler might work) som leafs if
necessary :'D and i think it work for the grasses too, especially on the back
The image lacks perspective or a vanishing point to give depth. The steps and
the torii obviously appear to be cloned with the angles of the steps, and the
thickness of the torii poles. This is where you are getting the
"flatness" referred to by other comments. Think about it for a minute,
if you are looking at an object close up and then looking at the same object in
the distance - are they meant to be the same size? That's the issue with the
torii and steps, they are all the same size irrespective of the distance from
the viewer. This consequently screams, with all respect to the effort you've put
in so far, a lack of attention to detail. Even if it is a background (notice I
don't say "only"), the viewer's eye will be drawn to the background in
a wallpaper as much as, if not more so, than the character/s themselves.

Like this?
Torii (Edited 2x)
At first i'm giving to much texture that make it not right, so i reduce it litle by litle, and i think this is the right amount of texture.
oh, thx for the feedback until now ^_^

once again thank you for your help ^_^
OMFG! It has problems with shades... And details..To simple...
I think that the image looks too flat -or at least the elements in it.
Some shadows would probably fix that. There are a few methods to do shadows.
