One of the easy ways to do it is to use the "Clone Tool". In this

you can see what the icon for it looks like.
The Clone Tool basically lets you copy (clone) one area of the image with two
mouse clicks [really!]. Why it's useful: because you can "erase" the
text and recreate the original image underneath, with exactly the same colors /
patterns.
Now, the Clone Tool works like this:
- you pick a brush size that suits you [I recommend working with the scan at its
original size, it will look better when you make it smaller to fit in your
wallpaper after that]
- you hold down the "ALT" key and click on an area that you want to
"clone"
- you release the "alt" key, then click on the area where you want to
put a copy of the original image.
Trust me, it's simpler than it seems If
you repeat the process a sufficient, number of times, you'll have yourself a
clean and ready-for-use scan.
Hint: If the colors look weird, you can use the Retouch tool [see image above]
to "smudge" the colors a little bit [go to the Tool Options window,
second tab, and pick "Smudge" from there, with a brush size that suits
you]. Alternatively, the "Soften" option of the same tool can make
wonders, too.
I'm still a newbie in Photoshop CS 8.0.
I don't know how to remove text from scans.

there's always the tedious but more fulfilling way of vectoring. but of course the time taken would be significantly longer than using the clone tool
wow... i never thought about clone tool... i simply vectored it away (and it took A LOT of time...)
