Apparently KyoAni has scrapped the 2nd season of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu. Instead, they've opted for a "new" Haruhi series which appears to be based upon the disappearance novel. They've gone back to the drawing board and redesigned the characters (seems to be mainly the guys, making them a little more attractive for the bisho girls out there )

Here is a photograph of the new designs from this months Newtype magazine. I'm sure we'll get to see some high resolution scans soon. Rumors around are placing this to release in 09. It was also said that the "season 2" was already in the works and was canned due to some artists leaving KyoAni earlier this year.

I always thought the 2nd season was going to be based on the disappearance novel anyways, but I guess I was wrong. Darn, now we have to wait longer As long as we get more Haruhi though, I'm happy.
Ooh, new Haruhi scans! The cover looks awesome <3 Design wise it doesn't look too different; just a bit improved or something...no need to change the guys Oh well, I trust KyoAni not to do anything too weird with them.

This disappearance version might as well be the season two for all intents and purposes, then. At least they didn' give up on Haruhi altogether, you gotta give em credit for that.

Yeah, apparently they are calling it a "new" Haruhi because they want it to sound fresh and give it a higher quality even higher than what they did for the first season which was pretty damn good if you ask me.

My... What the hell... We have been waiting for so long and yet it cancel?! Ahha, so this "NEW" Haruhi is coming right? "Take every thing we can" right? lol looking forward to it now.

What? OMG? I don't like the sound of that... This 'new' Haruhi might not have the same taste and style as the first season, and as if they would spice up the male characters; they're fine looking as it is! I just hope the 'changes' aren't too dramatic. ><

I also always thought it would be based on the Disappearance novel. So, this isn't news to me. The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya was always one of my favorite in the series, so i'm glad they picked it next.

You guys did see the link to the picture of the character re-designs in my original post right? They aren't MAJOR re-designs...I gotta admit I think I like them more than the first series.

I don't think they look too much different...this thread scared me at first...Love the show and am so glad they are continuing it...I was going to purchase the DVDs...but I wanted to make sure they continued it first!
