I'm not sure that this is a bug per se, but it's a damn annoying something. When
I visit this site now, I get one of those redirect/pop-up ads taking me to one
of those fake spyware removal scans. It completely removes me from MT and the
only way to get rid of it is to close my browser completely. It happens now at
about a rate of 50% of my clicks through the site, and only happens on this
site. The only way I've been able to truly prevent it is clicking the stop
button before each page fully loads.
This is mostly evident on Internet Explorer and a rare occurence on Firefox. Is
this a widespeard problem or am I simply an isolated case?
I am not having this problem where I am running Firefox with the NoScript and
AdBlockPlus extensions. My guess is that it is a third party script causing the
issue rather than MT per se. It could be generated from either adecn.com or
google-analytics.com, as I have both those sites disabled under NoScript and am
having no problems accordingly.
I guess it's possible that AD Aware or Spybot S&D is tackling those on my
account, because I haven't seen those for quite some time anywhere.
My guess is that the creators of these fake spyware removal programs basically
buy themselves into standard banner rotation services at regular intervals to
counter the blocking of their earlier ads.
I personally have not had this pop-up. I can venture a guess as to why though,
it's because I have NoScript, an add-on for FireFox. It blocks third party
scripts from executing.
I have mine set to block ALL website scripts and when I visit a site that I want
to allow, I simply allow it and any other site I want.

gallery. I'm no a Mac so no harm other then me not being able to mod the forums.
I'm starting to wonder if something has been done behind the scenes, because I
haven't done a thing and yet it has ceased to pop-up. Does it know we are on to
it... or are people still getting this thing on occasion?
I just came across this report and I have a similar problem. It has been
happening ever since I started coming on MT, regardless of my web browser. I
don't get a virus scan thing, but I usually get something like a Netflix or
Zwinky pop-up. It only happens when I come onto the site for the first time and
I click a link (like a gallery item for example). It's pretty annoying. Because
I am not interested in renting "Elf" from Netflix.
Resurrecting this thread due to necessity... is anybody now having trouble with
outright redirects to other sites? It's not that fake spyware site, but now a
variety of sites, to include Heavy.com. Heavy.com? A site like this that says
it's family friendly is sending me to one of the most adult sites that isn't
porn? I do hope this is an isolated incidence otherwise we may have a serious
problem. Anybody else?

me nuts. I'm wondering if it's something one of the ad vendors has launched that
Shequel hasn't seen yet. On top of that, my antivirus HATES it so it redirects
me to their site when I try to get away from the original redirect. The pop-ups
are annoying, but this is different. I'm with shoujoboy, this is a serious
problem.

to a gaming site.
This one came up as I was going to a thread. I clicked
on the thread and the popup was there instead.
There were others, but I didn't snag them. One was even aware of where I lived
and was directed towards books in my city. Its really starting to get annoying.

It happened to me as well, I am being redirected to some ad-avare and antivirus scans, and I am using Opera. So I guess it's not a single thing...
I was getting it a lot last night using Safari, but not with IE or FF. It has been happening to me since about 11 PM PDT last night.

I got that one once yesterday on Firefox. However, after running an actual Virus Scan and upon subsequent visits, I haven't gotten the pop-up again...
