all the forums where the topic is which anime character would you go out with or
love or want to marry or something similar, i don't understand how a person can
feel that way to an animated character. sure it'd be awesome if they were real
and all but that's as far as it goes for me. sure it's ok if it's hypothetical.
but for people to honestly fall in love with a cartoon character is beyond me.
so in all honesty, i want someone to explain to me how it's possible. and on
that note, i also want to know why girls like yaoi.
Falling in love with an anime character is easy, depending on exactly how
someone watch anime. Those who simply watch anime for the entertainment value
usually don't fall into that pitfall, but for those who truly immerse themselves
in the fantasy world can easily find themselves distancing themselves from
reality. When discussing their love for a character in something like a forum,
they are usually referring to that part of them that really indulged themselves
in that fantasy. And just as you said, it would be cool if that person existed,
which is where that infatuation lies.
We all know that the characters we fawn over aren't real, but it's that propsect
of a real person that mirrors that character that acts a catalyst. When I was
younger I had a mad obsession with Belldandy (much like a lot of us I'd
imagine). At the time, Belldandy represented a lot of what I wanted in an ideal
mate, so to obsess over her and what she represented was easy. Since then I've
lost that particular feeling, but I do still find myself far more attracted to
some characters.
I'm fairly certain people know how to draw the line between fantasy and reality.
Within the confines of ones personal life, you are able to live out this
obsession. Hell I have one of those body pillows with an anime character on it.
When I'm alone it provides a sense of comfort having that character there, but I
full know that it is nothing but fabric with a drawing on it. It's that fantasy
that fills certain holes in people's lives and allows for an unmatched euphoria
of perfection personified.
What Shoujoboy and Renialt say it's true. It's just a little fantasy some of us
have. But if you are with your head on your shoulders then such a deep thing as
falling in love shouldn't happen. Maybe it's because that image of beauty and
perfection that most of the characters represent, since they are drawn for that.
They are usually the embodiment of the drawer's ideal person.
About why girls like Yaoi...Good question. Can someone answer it? Because I, as
a guy, I hate it and maybe because of that I'm not in the position of answering
that question.
All of you are absolutely right. As far as the yaoi question goes, I don't know
why girls like it either. I'm a girl and honestly, I really can't explain it. I
really don't like yaoi all that much. Now if its a really nice picture (and not
pornographic), I might save it. I honestly like any kind of couple pic, whether
it be shonen-ai, shoujo-ai or normal old couples. That's just my opinion (it
probably didn't help anything...)!

Thing is, everybody is different. Some watch anime for entertainment, some watch
it for the animation, some for character(s) and others just to see why other
people like this kind of stuff. They differ.
Separating fantasy from reality is for me. I mean, my most favorite animes in
the world are Saiyuki and Inuyasha, Inuyasha being my first anime to ever see
and fall in love with the show. Not the characters, the show itself. But when I
first started watching Inuyasha, I was instantly herded to Inuyasha. Then
Sesshomaru came along and Hiten. It brought me into my own little world where I
was in the era with them all fighting demons and being the love of Sesshomaru's
eye. But that was just daydreaming, a fantasy. I knew it wasn't real. With
Saiyuki, I loved Gojyo first, but now I'm madly liking the character
Sanzo/Konzen Douji.
There's something about a character that draws you to them. It could be the
personality, the vocals, appearance, anything. For me, I was drawn to Gojyo
first because I just thought he was drawn so hot! But then, Sanzo's personality
got through to me and I loved it! He became my favorite!
Thing is, in a world of fantasy, you can be whoever you want to be and with whom
you ever wish to be with. I admit that I daydreamed about being Sesshomaru's
love or Sanzo's interest. But let's face it, I knew it wasn't real! Fantasy is
just fantasy and I'm sure that all otakus know that.
Now, moving on to yaoi. Okay...good question...Why do girls like yaoi?

There's really absolutely no explanation as to why girls like yaoi. As for me, I
love yaoi! I really do. But it's almost always just shonen-ai stuff like
Gravitation, Sukisyo and Loveless.
GuyxGuy doesn't bother me because my ex-boyfriend is gay (don't even ask ) and he's all right. He's cool. And I have a few other gay friends, too.
They're totally awesome! It's not that I enjoy so much as seeing guys ''doing
it'', but the innocent love they seem to share with one another. The shy
caresses...the innocent eyes...the hesitation of wondering if he wants to hold
you or not. I love it. That's what it seems to be. The innocence of it. An
innocent love. It doesn't matter though. Straight or not, love is love. And
girls, when they see those kinds of things, it just makes them want to squeal in
delight of the cuteness of it all.

opinion it won't be that hard to fall in love with game character's when the
graphics get better and more natural. I'm kind of like in the same lines with

the words i hate you (lol) i wouldn't fall in "love" with a animated
character but i can't say i don't have nasty dreams of them either lol but
it's probably because of how the character is like that turns me on

I think if the person really appreciated the appearance of the character it is possible especially with an opposite gender(i.e.male-female).
