Which would you prefer? The medieval Final Fantasy that it began with in
FFI-FFVI and returning to in FFIX, FFXI, and FFXII or do you prefer the setting
of the future that was used in FFVII, FFVIII, and FFX/FFX-2?
I Prefer the more industrial setting of the future in FFVII and FFVIII.
Futuristic is my preference, though I love the fantastic.
VIII is my favorite (I think you have a typo in your post, there is no xiii) so
of course futuristic gets my bet.
But square does both equally well.
I think a best would be a mix of both, not so futuristic, not so medieval.
Still, my favourite is Medieval. All the best RPGs to me are medieval (With the
exception of Xenogears that is a great RPG still) Those games are FF Tactics,
Vagrant Story, Valkirye Profile, FF VI, Legacy of Kain Series.
btw: Ivalice rules, people. Pity the chara designs (don't get me wrong, it's a
cool design, but not so medieval and all the people I saw there are blondie
kids... That just gives me a weird feeling that ffxii won't have such a good
story...) Still, as a fan, I will play it.
Here's a weird thought: In FF VI, technology was ruling men, when the war of
Magi begun. So it was futuristic until the war came to an end, then technology
was lost and with the pass of time they slowly regained it. (Also look at
Vector, capital of the empire... A city of steam and metal, the Magitek armors,
etc. There was a futuristic touch in that city (Reminds me of the Zaibach empire
in Escaflowne, I wonder if Sunrise stole the idea from Vector ^^?)
I'm more for the medieval setting. The oldschool FF games (i-vi) are my
favs.
But, I don't mind the futaristic setting at all. I enjoyed ffvii, viii, and X a
lot.
Either works for me
I perfer medieval setting better but as Hyas said. It would be better if you
combined the two together. Then again it really doesn't matter. Much... to me
anyways.
Heheh well guess i'm the first to say futuristic. I greatly enjoyed
FFX..actually i loe this game so my vote definatly goes to that. Though i
haven't played many of the FF games other than VIII and a bit of IX, i still am
all for the futuristic and fantastic setting of FFX. Nothing beats Yuna dancing
on the water...nothing.....
Medieval is kinda cool but I also prefer future setting that doesn't involve
space and aliens or the sort. And I agree that mixing the two would be the best.
I say... medieval clothes in a futuristic setting!! ^-^ Hee, I'm a sucker for
olden-day type clothing.... I'll watch almost any movie in which the time period
is before 1900.... heh heh
I sorta go with the industrial-futuristic setting. Like some others, I find
ffvii as mos enjoyable among the FF games released so far, and I really liked
the setting used there; all the dirty streets, the rebels against the
corporation, really punk metal stuff...
I like the Futuristic FF setting, like ffvii and ffviii. I enjoyed those games
much more than FFIX and FFX. Some of the medieval stuff isn't too bad, a mix of
both futuristic and medieval stuff would be interesting, but I prefere the
futuristic setting alot more ^_^
Actually what I absolutely loved about ffvii is that it blends both the
futuristic with the midieval. Come on, machine gun armed robots vs sword
wielders and magic users. In fact, ffviii pulled that off even better. Best
part in the game is when you run through the FMV battlefield during the clash
between the Gardens.
It is a classic! You have your castles, knights, white/black mage, dragoon,
ninja, magical spells, bards, and wizards. It may not be so high tech, but it
is the core of the FFs.

i Prefer the more industrial setting of the future in ffvii and
FFVIII.
likewise I love futuristic evironments, and it would be better in a ciberpunk
world like the one in Ghost in the shell... men that would be a kickass ff...
Personally, it almost doesn't matter to me cuz I love the Final Fantasy series
no matter what. The first one I played was ffiii (as labeled in Japan) an I've
been hooked ever since.
I can't really pick but I would have to say my favourites so far are FFX and
ffvii... wait that doesn't answer anything. I guess if I really get down to
it I would have to go with the old school 'medieval' style. In fact so long as
Tetsuya Nomura is working in the series I'm fine. I mean... I still don't
know why I play ffx-2 after all.
I probably prefer the futuristic setting of the FF series, although FFVI was my
favorite out of all the games. I'm not a big fan of the way the FF art is
turning out recently though...the graphics are amazing of course, but the past
couple of games seem to take away from how FF used to feel. The realistic
nature of the characters isn't the problem for me, but rather the more modern,
almost pop-culturesque wardrobes I think. But eh, I'll still probably play every
FF game (cept X-2 :P) that's released.

the combination of both seems pretty good to me. although medieval wins slighty because of vi,after the war it all went back to it. story is classic.

I also have to say the mix of them both. Though ffviii was my fav I liked FFX setting since there is still technolgy and magic used.
I would prefer the Medieval. Dunno why but I'd rather see things without a tech hype.
I'd say FF7 is my favorite. The industrial/sword (Buster/Masamune) combo was awsome. Future, just not to far into the future
i go for VII and VIII which means i choose future because there are freakin guns and cool airships
Medieval is kinda cool but I also prefer future setting that doesn't involve space and aliens or the sort. And I agree that mixing the two would be the best.
I like medieval if it's done well, but overall, I like futuristic better. My favorite games were 7 and 8.

As long as it's got swords in it, I'll play it. Although I like a medieval-like setting better.

I prefer the Medieval!!!
Like FFII (u.s.) or FF IV (Japanese)

A interesting thread...hope to see you around MT.
A mixture of both. When technology and magic blend together, like in FFX.

I like the futuristic but not when they put in different races, no i'm not racist or specieist, but i like when they do just humans.
