Isn't that a great attention-grabbing headline? I thought that too when I
noticed an article, "Pokemon's cancer role
revealed " in my daily The Scientist newsletter (article requires site
membership to read.)
Actually, those little Japanese creatures don't cause cancer (although they may
cause seizures), but some researchers named a protein "POK Erythroid
Myeloid Ontogenic factor" (source) and discovered that
it could have major implications for cancer gene expression and cancer
treatments. They don't mention a specific type of cancer but suggest that
because it is linked to so many other oncogenes (cancer-causing genes) that
altering Pokemon may be a new method of cancer treatment. The full paper is
available in this week's Nature (Summary

You know, it's extremely difficult to read a serious scientific article that
says the word Pokemon every two sentences. It just keeps cracking me up.
lol!!! omg I can't believe it... I wonder what other studies can be funded to
determine all of the maladies that have correlations with pokemon... lmao
Whoa!! I never thought Pokemon, of all things, cause cancer!! That's weird!! I
know cancer is a serious disease, but with Pokemon in this, I can't help but
laugh a bit!!
who wouldn't go neurotic from watching Pokemon? that shows lethal. you'd think
that after a few years they'd get rid of it. but no!!! they have to make us
suffer.
GOd... that WAS really attention grabbing..
gosh.. i've been watching Pokemon the last few days.. coz i got raelly really
bored and we used to tape it from TV series..
better stop watching.. (hey, maybe that's why our POkemon taped video showed
Digimon instead this morning... seriously! )
that;s so funny.. "Pokemon causes cancer" then perhaps another article
as a follow up... "the government makes Pokemon illegal - children complain
coz they never finished off the series on TV" *rofl*
Hahaha. That's funny. At first when I read the line I thought it was really the
truth! :P
Interesting... I read the article and the name sounded really funny.
^_^
Thanks for sharing with us... I still like Pokemon. :P
Your right about the attention grabbing part!!
That sounds kinda interesting....
the people who wrote it did a really good job on the title
But just to make sure that I don't catch it, I think I'll never look at the show
again!!
I though pokemon only cause seizure, not cancer, or well, I was never really
good with medical science.
Those cute little monster are a big problem. btw, that is some interesting
education you post there Tama.

Wow, that really grabbed my attention. I thought it was gonna be some really stupid thread, but this is funny and coincidental. Very weird :]

I agree 100%. I'd rather watch paint dry
I thought the cancer was caused by sitting too close to the TV/Microwave some kitchens and dorm rooms have....
Update: 2/23/2005
Ok, that post sounded off topic. Actually, it isn't too bad when you mute the sound (except for Misty in dub version)... But I'd rather watch Billy, from the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy watching the paint dry. And that's when I'm braindead at the end of the day.
Listening to the Pokémon talk, (except Meowth) could cause canser and brain damage from repetition.
Well now I know what wacht tha little monsters is very dangerous I'll stop
, I know what that series can rot the brain but it's so much.
I though pokemon only cause seizure, not cancer, or well, I was never really good with medical science.

eeekkk..
