I was going to put this in the spam lounge but it is kind of tech related... I also didn't want to be OSist... but this applies for Win XP and maybe 2000, 2003 only.... but nothing can or will stop other users posting here.
When set to Win XP start menu the most frequently used programs are placed on the left hand side (just to make it clear what I'm on about, I'm not being condecending ). Here is my six

I run most of my programs off of shortcuts, so they don't show up on the start menu. Stuff like BitComet, Firefox, mIRC, etc.

seems like that feature only works with programs that are auto.started when u d-click on a file or use the start menu to run them. anyway, i have my most common used programs in the quickstart toolbar:
