Well here it goes yesturday (july 4th) I commented on one of my friends artwork
(not saying who) and as we all know comments are not suppose to be taking badly
their only given to help artists get better right?
well when I was done I simply thought she would use my comment instead of throw
it back in my face..but she told me that if I didn't like her work I shouldn't
comment on it... in other words she was trying to tell me that if I wasn't going
to fave her work I shouldn't comment on it....now although it sounds somewhat
fair I still can't get the feeling that it's not right...everyone comments on
artworks that they dont fave and it's no big deal...no one comments to make the
artist feel bad only to help them right?
So are we wrong to comment and try to help other members out?
should we only comment on a wall that we're going to fave?

I comment when I feel like it, but it doesn't depend on if it's a good or bad
work...
and I think you made the right thing, than commenting only in the good works is
kinda ridiculous... I think! (and if that would be so, I never would receive a

Maybe she just interpreted you wrong... you can still clear it up, don't you

If somebody just writes "its ugly I hate it", then its understandable
why a person would be offended.
But if its written as constructive criticism, then it gives feedback and the
artist can improve from theuir mistakes.
I dont think its bad to give "bad comments" as long as it given as
constructive critism ^_^

people's opinion rather than what you actually think.

like your wallies very much you would have expect people to give good and bad

the use for comments box here? Right? Faving is not just for fun you know.
People consider it as his or her fav, that means its something real good to
deserve it. If you wanna uploaded something just for fav there is not the point
in doing wallies at all! I am sure everyone would not like bad comments or
suggestion to it cuz its your hard work. But try to live with it and make it
even better the next time. This is the way a waller should be. I don't think a
person should get angry with the comments cause if you uploaded your work, you
should expect good and bad replies. Thats what I think. Reasonable and
acceptable reply?

I think comments are good. I added just 2 wallpapers in my favs. It has a
reason. But I try to comment every wallpaper or doujishi, what my frends make.
What I like I didn't give to my favs, I download it. It's maybe not the best,
but I do this like that.

I think that constructive criticism may be well recieved as long as you (or
anyone commenting) do it in a polite manner... if the person recieving the
criticism in an objective way feels he/she is being targeted then he/she is just
being childish and you shouldn't waste your time reviewing your
"friend's" submissons.
i don't think that it's wrong to comment on a person's work. all comments should
be accepted whether it's good or bad, if it's good, well, great. but if it's
bad, you still have to accept it because it's just another person's opinion. to
lie about it would be nasty because you're just giving false hope.
It is not bad to critizise as long as it is constructive criticism... But I
guess there are people who does not like to be told their work is not that
great...
unless you were offensive, impolite or wrong in your critique, which i doubt
happened, i dont see how commenting on this person's (or any other's) work could
have been bad.
From my art school experience in the past, I've noticed that the most competent
art students are very open to thoughtful constructive criticism. They are
willing to put themselves out there and face potentially harsh criticism so that
eventually their own artwork will improve. If the critique was crap, these
people knew it and just ignored it.
On the other hand, the less artistic/competent students would think that they've produced great pieces and
think too highly of themselves or their artwork. These people don't really have
potential for improvement (and have reached their limit) because they are
stagnating and stewing in their own illusion of greatness.
Not to be mean or overly harsh, but people who submit artwork on MT should not
do so hoping to only receive flattering comments and favorites. Those who can't
handle constructive criticism shouldn't be submitting their work for the MT
community - save it for the parents, they'll say nice things about it.

so it's not a compliment it's sorta like a helping comment but it's in a
good way so that they know you're not trying to be mean...well

oh or like when you have a problem on something and you want to give
you're opinion on something but you put it in a good way so that instead of

happened to many MT members. i've heard a lot. and i know many wallers out there
give lots of comments, whether or not it's compliments or even critiques..some
may be offensive but hey live with it! u_u yea ok maybe those who gave really
offensive comments might hurt the waller..but somehow, i think we all comment on
wallpapers because we think it deserves some commenting and let's just say we
give tips to help him/her do better! and it isn't good when someone just submits
wallpapers to get into the highlights or to get favs. people don't just comment
on wallpapers coz we want a fav to it. even BAD works need comments. think about
it, we WERE once a newbie in walling ne? well kitten, i think your friend needs
to learn what submitting a gallery item is all about ^_^.. although yes, it does
feel good to receive nice comments and also lots of favs, how are we gonna
improve if that keeps going on? unless
we're all pro in walling and it's soooo perfect that no one can give critiques
to it.

I agree with Meteorcloud! Your friend shouldn't have taken that comment so
negatively. It's good that you're trying to help them out! Unless your comment
was offensive like Athrun said (which I highly doubt because you're a sweet
person) then that person can't take critism well. I personally would be happy to
read comments and tips to improve but then again that's just me.
